It does suck...but the point is there are plenty of other smartphones on the AT&T network that don't seem to have the data problems that the iphone does.

I do think the iphone has an intrinsic problem with data handling. I think it's been covered somewhere, also. But, I don't think other phones on AT&T are comparable to the way the iphone uses data.

Data is data. If the iphone is hogging all the data, then that data would not be available to other phones. There is not different data supplied to different phones.

I hope they do. But it's been the same line for a couple years now.

When they get it all straightened out, maybe I'll go back, but for now I need a phone that actually works and can achieve the difficult task of sending an e-mail when I need it to.

plus the 3G iPad. Then you have the 4G iPhone coming out soon. Good luck with that.

More New iPhone OS 4 Features: File Sharing, App Closing

The third beta of iPhone OS 4, released and then pulled yesterday after an installation issue with the development tools was discovered, is now back in Apple's iPhone Dev Center. Following on yesterday's discovery of new iPod controls and a screen orientation lock available through the iPhone OS 4 multitasking interface, Boy Genius Report covered several additional new highlights for the updated operating system.

File Sharing

Currently available with iPhone OS 3.2 on the iPad, iPhone OS 4 seems set to bring this feature to the iPhone and iPod touch, allowing users to drag-and-drop files between certain applications and their computers.

Closing Applications

In earlier beta versions of iPhone OS 4, users wishing to close applications in the multitasking tray had to touch and hold each application's icon until an extra "close" icon appeared in the upper left corner of the application's icon and then touch it to close out the application. The awkward and time-consuming process when trying to close multiple applications was a complaint of some users, and Apple has addressed the issue by now allowing users to simply touch and hold one application's icon to activate the close option for all visible applications in the multitasking tray. Once activated, users can quickly close multiple applications.
at Steve jobs comment about task managers heh.

Anyways how does this file sharing work on the ipad? Does it mean I could have say a document on the phone and multiple apps can open it?

Closing apps and switching between running apps is something made rediculously easy with kirikae.

Documents to Go is a cool app that works with Microsoft Office. Premium version works with Google Docs. Allows you to sync files with your desktop and all that jazz.

IMO I'm not. For what I use my iPhone for its good enough as is.

Folders don't care for them since I only use a very small handful of apps.
Backgrounder. I don't use pandora or any of that stuff, just the iPod so I don't need it.
Intelliscreen, don't get many messages or emails worth reading so I don't need that.
Have no use for turning my iPhone into a hotspot either.

Themes I used to do it, but most of the ones are ugly and don't even really change the core functions from the default theme.

Now if JB allowed the use flash, I would Consider it.

Well sux, I was hoping it would be like it gives a small part of the memory that you can just drag and drop from your desktop or save to in apps. And could be used across multiple apps.

Funny thing is, aside from a theme, I don't use any of those.

SBSettings - a must-have.
Winterboard - manages add-ons
Illumine - theme
MXTube - saves YT vids
Weathericon - instant weather just by looking at the icon
Liveclock - actually makes that icon do something
Transparent dock
user wallpaper
user charge screen

I used to have other stuff, but that's what I've pared down to. May have to redownload the movie maker.

I got a gold Chevy bowtie that fills up as the battery charges then it opens up to a white background-pic of an LS1 (the latter which you can do with an un-JB'd iPhone, but still)

I thought the same thing about JBing before, and then I finally did it. I agree with everything Cochese said, and I'm gonna check out that weather icon he mentioned. I have the illumine theme with the matching Winterboard/SBSettings theme too... looks awesome!

But one word: Installous FREE MUTHA FUCKIN APPS! HOW CAN YOU ARGUE WITH THAT?

question though, does having 3G/EDGE on/off affect call quality? To get the best battery life I turn on Wi-Fi at a house/hotspot and turn off 3G/EDGE, and when outside I turn on 3G/EDGE and turn off Wi-Fi. Am I doing it right?

You're right about turning on Wifi.

3G and Edge are independent of each other, if your goal is to save battery life, turning off 3G as much as possible is your best bet.

what are you guys going to do with your iPhones after you move on? and what did you guys who have moved on do with your old iPhones? There was a topic going on on HF about someone debating whether to sell before the WWDC or not. I don't plan on selling my iPhone at all, but I'm curious.

the 4G is coming out soon. Don't know if I'll get it, but I said the same thing when the iPhone first came out.

I'm not selling. I'll either let the wife have it, or keep it around the house as a toy.

My 2G iPhone is unlocked, so I use it over seas.

As for the 3GS, probably unlock it as well and maybe install android on the 2G iPhone.

Looks like AT&T might have iPhone exclusivity until at least the end of 2010.

Analyst Suggests AT&T May Have Gained iPhone Exclusivity Through 2010 With iPad Data Deal
Thursday May 06, 2010 09:35 AM EST; Category: iPhone
Written by Eric Slivka
Computerworld reports on comments from Broadpoint AmTech research analyst Brian Marshall suggesting that AT&T may have gained an extra six months of iPhone exclusivity in the United States with its bid to provide data service for the iPad, extending its window through the end of 2010.
"AT&T had to do something dramatic to get the iPad," said Brian Marshall, a Wall Street analyst at BroadPoint AmTech. AT&T's move was to discount their normal wireless data plans by 50% to iPad customers.

As part of the tit-for-tat, AT&T got what it wanted. "For that pricing [on the iPad], AT&T was able to negotiate a six-month extension on the iPhone exclusive," Marshall said.

Marshall provides little evidence for his claim beyond the observation that Verizon failed to win the rights for iPad service. Numerous sources had indicated to Marshall that Verizon was a "certainty" for the iPad, suggesting that some major happened to push Apple's focus to AT&T.

AT&T's exclusivity window for the iPhone in the United States has been the subject of some debate, with early claims pegging it at five years being disputed by other reports that AT&T initially had a two-year agreement that extended through mid-2009 but gained an extra year when it increased the handset subsidies paid to Apple. A report from early last year suggested that AT&T was searching for a way to extend its exclusivity for yet another year until mid-2011, and its iPad data pricing offer may have been a means to get halfway to that goal.

Me too
And I have a Ferrari F1 car as my lock screen with a ferrari badge to make the car unlocked.

As for other things I've done to my jailbroken 3G iphone (I'm on Tmobile btw), I have the 5 dock icons in the bottom, I find it more usefull, I used to have themes but not im back to the normal look other than the 5 icon dock. I wanted texting to go down there. I have backgrounder, which I find useful. Cycorder lets me take videos. A few things I had get from cydia to enable picture messaging. Installous is awesome . thats about it so far

Do you need to do this thru a pc/mac? Or just directly with the iPhone?

I did it through PC. I don't recommend upgrading to 3.1.3 though. 3.1.2 working flawlessly jailbroken.

Mines jailbroken with the 3.0 firmware, Ive been thinking of upgrading to 3.1.2 but I dunno if its worth it because I would have to restore my phone and all. Whats new in 3.1.2 that 3.0 has anyway? Anything worth putting effort into it?

Nothing new and I wouldn't suggest upgrading to 3.1.2 any ways. Was upgrading for a friend who was still at 2.2.1.

Yeah blackra1n JB'd my 3GS with a tap of the screen. Thank god I jumped on the JB wagon when I did, heh.

Got a question if any of you guys are tethering. I'm planning on attemptin to tether my laptop since there's no way in hell I'm gonna pay $15 for half an hour of wifi or whatever. I searched around and found this website:

http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/97718

will that work? I'm on 3.1.2

I read about it on engadget, it's a pretty long a tedious process but it can be done. They said it's only possible with the original iPhone why.
