Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
I'm gonna install it tonight since if anything (which it won't) screws up. I'll have the 5 on Friday.
The GM is basically the same as what will be released Wednesday. Unless a big bug is Discovered. IIRC iOS 5 had 2 golden masters.

Anyways, you can find the links if you want, Ive been using it for about 4 days and its nice. I used the maps app to navigate me from London to Bath (in a rental car, wrong side of road, etc). Map app is good. However, the map app lost its public transportation routing which actually sucks in London, there are other apps and they may add it.
The passport feature doesnt do anything here, yet at least.
Some other nice touches in animation when checking email and refreshing, etc. Calendar looks nicer. App store search is worse IMO, instead of a list, its a swipe through of suggest apps, I dont like it.
Seems smoother and quicker. Only one bug so far is if you try to post a panoramic pic you took (very cool new feature) to Facebook, FB crashes. May be a FB issue though.
You will lose Jailbreak and cant get it back on a 4s. A4 devices and under have JB, but tethered.

Ahhh, I figured it was one of the Beta/GM versions just wanted to check. Although I have a developer account, I never ran one of the beta's because of stability issues and because of what I have to support at work.

Apple's accountants might be eagerly anticipating the billion dollar patent damages check Samsung is slated to send the company's way, but the only surviving Apple Inc. co-founder thinks the jury made the wrong decision in the landmark court case.
"I hate it," Steve Wozniak told Bloomberg when asked about the ongoing Apple-Samsung patent dispute. “I don’t think the decision of California will hold. And I don’t agree with it -- very small things I don’t really call that innovative."
In fact, Woz finds the very idea of the patent wars to be patently absurd. "I wish everybody would just agree to exchange all the patents and everybody can build the best forms they want to use everybody’s technologies," he said. This is coming from a person who holds several technology related patents.
If you're shocked to see such a senior figure at Apple blurt out such an anti-Apple opinion, you obviously haven't heard Woz's blunt talk before. The straight-shooting Woz is on the record as being a big fan of Android's more advanced features and has said that he only recommends the iPhone to Apple devotees and "people who are just scared of computers altogether and don’t want to use them."
That being said, Woz told Bloomberg that he's excited to get his hands on an iPhone 5; he hopes its camera retakes the picture-snapping crown from his Razr and Galaxy S III.
*Note: Apple Co-founder Ronald Wayne split before the company incorporated!

So searching for apps is like on the iPad? I hate searching apps on te iPad with the swiping to the left. I'd rather just see a list like on ios 5 & iPhone.
So I dialed *649# to see when my next upgrade will be with AT&T and I get this answer.
Upgrade equipment has been purchased. Park equipment exists. Swap activity should be performed.

Your thinking is flawed a bit... 4S is a nice fast processor which will actually benefit from the optimized iOS 6 (you can always restore back to 5.x if you will do the upgrade to iOS 6 before it is officially released, then you can just restore with iTunes OR if your phone is jailbroken, and your ssh blobs are saved...if you have no clue what I've just said, fuuugghetaboutit)

The 3G was pretty much unusable after the OS update so I figured I would check here before installing 6.0. Thanks man
Understood. I wouldnt fret too much with the GM though...its more or less final release.

He has always often been sighted as being childlike in many ways as well as admitted it himself.
He always wanted to give away his design for the apple I for FREE. It was Jobs who talked him out of it...and Woz, would probably have still been a successful designer for HP, would have never become the gadget loving multimillion air he is today.
I've always understood his mindset...but when he goes on record the way he does he more or less is always bitting the hand the feeds/fed him.
Yeah...so says Steve Wozniak. A man I respect very much, but I find naive in many ways.

Once Apple's next-gen smartphone sold out within an hour on Friday, shipment dates were estimated at 2-3 weeks from the time of preorder. But some excited buyers may have a shorter wait. Apple Insider reported that customers are receiving messages that Apple miscalculated the delivery date, and that the device will actually be delivered on Sept. 21, also the date of retail release. Not all early adopters are receiving the good news, however.
I like it.
When you type in the search it attempts the predictive search. If you don't select anything from that than it displays the results as single page, you just scroll amongst them kinda like cover flow.
You actually get more info that way than just seeing a list of titles.

No, they changed it, if you're gonna update an app, no password needed. Gonna redownload a purchased app, not there either.
Iirc only when you actually buy an app. (I think still includes free apps)
Before if you enter it once, you had 15 minutes or so to buy stuff before it asks again.

Lucky... For some reason BofA flagged my Iphone transaction as suspicious activity, cleared that up, and now I'm at the bottom of the line. FML.
Think I may cancel my pre-order and try my luck in store in a few weeks.
Either way, I need to pick up something else to use in the mean time. I've never lost a cell phone before, and man I feel totally crippled without it - I don't know a single phone number.
