Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
WTF iphone 5 won't be compatible with existing BMW ipod adaptor? Looks like I'm sticking with the 4S. I was going to be like Jupes and pay retail for 32 GB. Sprint recently switched from 12 to 18 month upgrade eligibility period which for me isn't until next July.
"BMW models, use an adapter cable that feeds the analog audio signal from the 30-pin connector to a 1/8-inch audio input, and a USB port to feed control signals between iPhone and car. Lightning does not have the capability to send an analog signal, so Apple's adapter will not work in those vehicles."

Its already been said that it will support analog audio out using the 30-PIN adapter.
Use the adapter and you will be fine.

"Would-be iPhone 5 owners are in store for disappointment when they connect their shiny new Apple device into their BMW or Mini model. The new Lightning connector and the adapter necessary to convert the nearly decade-old 30-pin arrangement to the new 8-pin setup won’t work with the vehicle’s iPod Out functionality.
iPod Out allows drivers to get a familiar, iPod-like interface displayed on the in-dash screen if they equipped their BMW and Mini models with the feature. The new Lightning connector eliminates the analog video signal required to transmit that display to the screen, so iPod Out functionality is dead … for now."

Yes and no....audio will function, but iDrive (screen view) probably will not.
...but no worries, BMW will issue a revised cable that will work with lightning soon enough.

I ordered from Verizon and still haven't gotten a conformation email...
I have a conformation number from ordering but still no email.
Has anyone else here gotten one yet?

Bought it on my first iPhone didn't on the second, whenever i decide to upgrade, I probably won't on the next either. It makes sense to on their desktop/notebooks, don't think it's needed on their phones so long as you take care of it.
Actually AppleCare+ would be prefered. $99 for 2 years, 2 whoopsies at $49 each. If you have one whoopsie, you pay $148 total for a refurbed like new phone. The Apple Store will replace it in no time. VZW gives you a hard time when phones break.
One extends your warranty another year the other adds breakage protection with a small deductible.
I never buy AppleCare upfront. I wait, since you have a year to buy it, and if keep the phone longer i get it. Screens have spots that go bad (happened on my 1stgen) and on the 4 the home button tends to crap out. But I think they fixed if cause its been over a year since I have to he another one because of that.
AppleCare+ you have to get within the first 30 days.
Buy with your AmEx card and there's no need for AppleCare since AmEx offers pretty much everything AppleCare does.
