Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
Apple's departure from using Google Maps is well known...looks like their alliance/partnership is becoming a bigger and bigger gap.
In the meantime, Google is trying to strengthen their maps brand by offering 3D images and the interior of buildings (i.e. layouts)...It will be interesting to see where this ends up.

Yea google brought it onto themselves by blocking turn by turn and other goodies from ios.
Also wasn't it like 40% of googles revenue comes from searches on iOS devices? (I forget the exact number but it was a significant amount)

While Google is releasing a slicker search for the iPhone, the maps brand is being abandoned by Apple as they begin to use their own product.
So, it's all act and react. To counter this loss of iPhone users, Google is strengthening their brand-power by also buying up QuickOffice, Meebo, and etc.
It will be interesting. I recently had a chance to speak to people in "the know" in regards to the lines being drawn in the sand.

I didn't follow the stream but was there any mention of NFC and a possible payment source like Google Wallet? I see there's a mention of Passbook but did they mention any paying with it? Reason I'm interested is because I really think that its going to take Apple to adopt it before NFC is adopted universally out there. I know the carriers are trying to create ISIS and whatever other NFC payments to get some revenue but someone needs to come up with a standard like how they do it in Japan.

I have unlimited data and can already FT on 3G or use Skype video calling and I'm hesitant since they slow you down after 3GB which I easily kill. It's catch 22.
by the time iOS 6 comes out...they'll be announcing the 5, and most people will be upgrading anyway.
I still only use the 4, I'll be moving on to the 5.
We all know how apple operates, amazed that people still get all bent out of shape.

yea i will be moving onto the new iPhone as well.
but seriously. other than forced obsolescence, i cant see any reason why those features wont work on my 4 and the iPad 2. The internals on the iPad 2 are the same as the 4S!

Facetime over 3G is probably a function that the 4S is HSPA+ and iPad 3 is LTE... I am thinking that "3G" label is directed at the fact those devices can simply support higher network speeds?
