Sorry...I was offered a 4S, but told the VP to save a few bucks since I won't be taking advantage of all its glory.

Apple confirms Carrier IQ in older iOS, plans to remove it in future update
We stopped supporting CarrierIQ with iOS 5 in most of our products and will remove it completely in a future software update. With any diagnostic data sent to Apple, customers must actively opt-in to share this information, and if they do, the data is sent in an anonymous and encrypted form and does not include any personal information. We never recorded keystrokes, messages or any other personal information for diagnostic data and have no plans to ever do so.

One of the best things the iPhone has always had going for it is that Apple doesn't let the carriers load crapware on iDevices.

Wireless? Don't think so. Wired, yes. Needs the Apple composite or component cables, or a third party with Apple's proprietary chip.

Any recommendations for this? I had a cheap one for my Evo from Amazon and it barely worked. I would be interested in a component cable that would allow me to stream video from my 4S to monitor. TIA

I'd go Apple 1st party on this. For $39 it's guaranteed to be compatible, versus some you might see online that were made before Apple mandated the chip.

Yes I was talking wireless. Couldn't find a solution searching through google, so didn't have much hope. Thanks for the answer!

When in doubt: older = composite, newer = component.

This advise is obviously leaving out VGA, DVI, S-video and HDMI connections.

Also note that with component, you will need a separate red/white RCA cable if you need audio.

Sometimes. Five cable component can be had, and the Apple ones come with.

Yea, but who buys Apple branded component cables unless you just enjoy getting anally raped?

As I said before, it's hard to distinguish if these cheapass cables have the chip in them. And even authorized third party providers, like Belkin, don't provide that much of a discount.

I didn't realize $40 was being anally raped. It's still cheaper than an ATV.

Clearly the cheap $5.00 knocks off from China is what he's all about.

I'm all for cheap, usually. This isn't one of those occasions.

If Monoprice had one, I'd surely be recommending that.

Actually that app I recommended works pretty good. The reason it's got low rating is because the the free version is a pretty limited trial version that requires an $8 in app purchase to remove the restrictions. The free version is good enough to know how the app works but not enough to actually be useful. But it does what he needs....

It was barely mediocre when I tried it. Also, consider the user when making recommendations. Cable 'just works' and doesn't require troubleshooting.

However I'll test it again to see if I get different results.

Remember that for the 4 or older it will only output You Tube and videos saved to your phone. You won't have a live desktop on your HDTV. I think only the iPad2 does that and maybe the 4s. I think there's an app that will stream wirelessly to your PS3 if you have one of course. I can't view the above link because I'm at work.

And yeah normally I'm a monoprice guy but methinks Apple will find a way to make component/HDMI cables useless without paying top dollar. I am happy to report though that the Chinese knockoff charging cables work for a 1/4 of the price. $19 is a damn rip.

Ah good to know. I have the 4S so I'll do some research. I did not know an HDMI output was also available, I'll look into this.

I'm looking for a solution to stream Youporn from my 4S to my 60" Sharp LCD. J/K. More like Netflix.

I'm almost positive Netflix won't work but look it up. I found answers at the answer database in the apple.com store.

If that's more in line with what you're wanting to do, something like a Roku box might be a better solution.

If you do mirroring it should work.

The Netflix app itself doesn't have any video output capability, iirc.
