Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
I only had like 20 songs out of 15k that didn't make it up.
I finally made it to an apple store to see the 5 in person.
Holy hell that thing is light on first impression. Then, when you actively compare it to a 4, youre like, yeah its lighter but not by much....but when you hold it by itself it feels like nothing.
I think the lightness and thinness actually didnt make the new height stick out very much.
And I gotta admit....while the initial thought of the black anodized metal made me a little wet at first....looking at them both in person, I think I'm going to get a white one. Which was way nicer in person than in the pics.

Connectivity problems you say? This is what I found yesterday. I was at a restaurant where I do their IT and noticed this on my iPad running iOS 6.
PQyAt.jpg
90% fail rate when pinging the access point from 5 ft away.
So I restarted the AP and reran the test and got the same results.
Out of curiosity I took out my phone (still on ios 5) and ran the same test and got 100% success rate while my iPad was losing 90% of packets.

Tried restarting the app, that made no difference.
So then I restarted my iPad and ran the test again and got this result after a restart

Something's up, never saw this issue on iOS 5

I got the white one with a nice little white case with silver back, its nice.
I did a live chat with at&t this morning because I had some questions about adding a 3rd line to my plan (sister in law)
Then I inquired about cancellation fees, and how it would cost me more to upgrade to the 5 with their "early upgrade" than to switch carriers....they agreed to let me upgrade both phones....but I have to call and do it through them. Kinda sucks cause I have a apple gift card. But hey....they did it and all I had to do was ask nicely. They didnt even put up a fight.

Other then Stunna being a mistake, he is right....Apple Maps is not ready to be released. Apple had too. I have used Apple maps for a few weeks and other then not having built in public transport routing (I found another app) it did fine getting me to where I need to go, Apple will fix it.
Now Itunes match seems to be broken, but thats another story.

But, lately, you have the attenna fiasco, Siri, and now the maps.
Seems a very different shift in philosphy.
Every release of pretty much every product of pretty much every company doesn't come out perfectly. This will be forgotten just like the antenna issue with the 4. In fact, this one wont be as bad since its software related and can be fixed with an app.
Apple pushed this out like any other of their products, with the same amount of beta releases and testers. It took Google many years to get their maps to where it is now. Apple had to drop Google maps. It was Apple Maps or no map apps. There are 100's of map apps in the app store, the phone is not affected by the issue with the map app.

I honestly just think that we are ending a cycle of what is the wow factor in technology. All companies are just trying to improve the current desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones. While Apple didn't invent the smartphone or tablet, they made them desirable first. Somebody needs to take it to the next cycle and its going to involve the way we interact with the devices. The keyboard and mouse will die.
Apple is known for making users their beta testers. Often OS X released with many bugs for example the Guest account bug in Lion that deleted all users documents in certain conditions if you logged into a guest account.
iOS 1, 2 and 3 where horribly buggy upon release, Safari used to crash constantly in iOS 2. WIFI reception was terrible on the first iPad until they released an update. I remember back to the days of Mac OS 9 being absolutely horrible until 9.0.4.

Ummm. Siri always has been and still is considered beta.
maps....how quick everyone is forget how google started years ago. It takes user input. The more users actually use and input in maps, the more accurate and better it will become.
antennae...whatever. I never had an issue...still don't. Only stunna who beats every negative thing to death and beyond claims to have a serious issue with it.
And jobs was around for two of the three...and I'm sure knew about maps and it was his idea to proceed to distance the company more from google.
As for people knowing how jobs would handle this...and apple only released perfect products...anyone remember mobileme? fcp x?
There history is far from perfect...and I love how its the naysayers who pop up and say "apple was so perfect, steve's dead so now its fucked" Youre all retarded.

Was asking a serious question and talk about getting unreasonably defensive and angry about it. Was just a thought. Wasn't saying your beloved product sucked.

But Apple really didnt have anything to show for iOS6 that was in anyway that big (other than iCloud, which doesnt so much appeal to the avg consumer since they probably have no clue how to use it) so they decided to add turn by turn and such. Its something they should have been working on for a longer amount of time than just decide to push it out quickly. Yes it does take years to develop proper maps, but if apple wanted its own maps, they should have started working on this earlier IMO or kept google maps for the last year it had its contract for to make apple maps better, and it would have been given an extra year of work.

I mean apple probably did need to move away from google, cause androids maps was just much better and would always be better. With apple's maps they can add whatever the ground breaking features are. And its a good thing they started their own maps. They just shouldnt have released it yet and kept it for one more year to work on.
well the reason why apple didn't renew their contract was because Google wanted more branding and things like Google latitude built into the maps app.
apple didn't want any of that so that's one of the reasons why they decided to drop Google.
but yes, with one more year to go, they could have worked on it even more and released a better version with iOS 7.
their original contract with google didnt include turn by turn.
