Yes but currently it has limited coverage and a lot of 'mericans aren't covered and LTE comes with really bad battery life right now. I think battery life is more important than "ZOMG 4Geeeeeee"

My IT boss has an Epic 4g and that thing is always low on battery, it doesn't usually last through the business day without going on a charger.

Battery life is a touch overrated if you have access to charge it.

People complaining about not getting through a day when they sit at a computer. Um, hello? If you don't have access, then it's another story.

Or just get an extra battery. Batteries are $10 on eBay and swapping between each is so easy if you're a crazy power user. If need be, they have the extended batteries that double or triple battery life. Really, you have options for such things. Obviously this option is for Android phones.

I'd rather not have to worry about it. We don't sit in front of one computer, we travel all over the area going from client to client. He def plugs it in when he can and it usually gets him through the day, barely. IMO it's not worth all the hassle so that when I do a web search it's a little bit faster on my phone. Like you said we sit in front of computers all day, if given the choice we're going to use the PC to do web searches instead of a phone.

4G mifi's sure sign me up but not 4g on my phone until they get better battery life which is supposed to be coming, Qualcomm's got some chip that combines modem on the SoC.

They've got extended batteries for iPhone, in the form of a case

Or battery based chargers

Give me the better performance (in both areas) over battery life.

USB is so ubiquitous now that it takes about ten seconds to find a place to charge. With the customization one can do to reduce battery use, I'd rather have that option on the user end than be restricted by the hardware.

Yes they do but they're usually ugly and way overpriced. Give me a regular cheap battery any day that doesn't ruin the aesthetics of the phone. Also, changing a battery literally takes 2 minutes tops. If you have problems changing a battery for 2 minutes, then you've got bigger issues.

Also one more thing, you can turn off 4G if you don't want to use it. Not sure if people are aware of this. Just because you have 4G doesn't mean you have to use it. You can even go down all the way to 2G if you want to save even more battery. You can always go back to 4G when you want it.

I don't want to micromanage my phone or buy extra batteries or carry around my charger just to get through the day

If I need to micromanage it every once in a while when put through heavy use, fine, but every fuckin day? No, thank you....

Really? That's micro managing? You can put a widget on the home screen and with one button press turn on/off 4G. How much micromanaging is involved in that? Or if you really want, they have apps that can automate all of this based on your location with Tasker and many other apps. If that's micromanaging then I don't know what using a smartphone is?

People need to stop effing whining. They demand a phone do more and more as much as a laptop use to. With that comes fast use of batteries. Buy extra , buy a mophie or two. Either find/invent a better battery and go back to a StarTac and use it as a phone.

Deal with the limitations are invent something better.

Not sure if trolling...

Considering they're pretty different in many ways. With the much smaller size of phones today, you can't cram the same size battery found in other electronics which is really the limiting factor at the moment for phones. A phone also has to deal with radio waves for calls which are the most draining in a phone on top of everything else it has to do in the background. Cell towers are also inconsistent and depending on your location can have different strain on your phone's battery life. If you want to do a fair comparison of a laptop and a phone, put the phone in airplane mode and use WiFi only. That cell phone can best that laptop almost all the time with usage. A better comparison would be the tablets vs. laptops but even then, most tablets bests laptops with regular usage and with the new Tegra 3s leap beyond them.

Yes there is an issue with that, from what I've read it an app problem, not hardware. If I can find the article, I'll post it, but this is the jist of what was said by an owner of two 4s's.

He has two phones, one for work (which is used only for testing apps he and his company make) and one for self. Was having problem with his phone, so he wiped clean both phones and switch them over. The battery problem follow the switch over.

Also the battery in the laptop is bigger.

And I don't have to manage anything on my phone in a regular day. Just plop it on the charger at bedtime and it has only once absolutely needed a charge during the day.

I can go two if I forget.

All I know is my friend's Thunderbolt was lightning fast when I tried it out, pun not intended.

Apple will probably roll out 4G, LTE or HSPA+ depending on the network within half a year or year and most likely tout it as the next big thing and so on and so forth. I'll be surprised if they dont within a year.

Call it just a marketing term if you want but Apple does the same thing. Every manufacturer out there does this. Synthetic motor oil vs conventional, premium unleaded vs regular unleaded, organic, ceramic, semi-metallic brake pads, etc

The iPhone 4S is still using last year's 14.4 Mbps version of HSPA+ while all the other phones are currently using 21 Mbps (AT&T Android phones) and 48 Mbps (T-Mobile Android phones) HSPA+. On XDA people have been reporting to hit anywhere from 6-10 Mbps with their Galaxy S II's (the regular one without LTE) so the radio difference is pretty significant.

AT&T's current infrastructure for HSPA+ can only go up to 21 Mbps right now which is probably why Apple decided to stick to 14.4 for the moment and to unveil it in their next iPhone most likely. This is also why AT&T wanted T-Mobile's "4G" 48 Mbps to cover them until their LTE was ready. Bad planning on the part of AT&T. The T-Mobile deal was their scramble plan which is looking less likely to happen each passing day. Of course all of these are theoretical speeds and most likely won't be seen with the current tech and spread out of their towers.

My friend found an iphone. All apps, contacts and history have been deleted. Its a Verizon iphone and my carrier is Verizon. If I buy it from him can I just put my service onto the phone?

Probably not. That ESN is most likely blacklisted. You can use it for everything but a phone as you won't be able to activate it with Verizon's network.

That's why they are so desperate to get T-Mobile. But FCC and JOD, doesn't look like that will happen...

I may be getting my AT&T 4S replaced tomorrow.

Since I've had it earlier this month, when I place a call, it doesn't ring yet I become connected to the person I'm calling. They can hear me but I can't hear them. I thought maybe upgrading to 5.0.1 would solve the problem but it hasn't. I've restored the phone twice as well.

More than two but not many: "the author of several books"; "Van Gogh was just one of several artists who gathered at Auvers".
Separate or respective: "their several responsibilities".

Might just be the network in my area but whenever I place a call, it takes a long time for it to start ringing. And then when I get a call and answer, I always have to say "hello" two or three times until the other person can hear me. Kinda annoying.

It doesn't take me long to connect when placing a call. Since I don't hear anything after placing the call, I look at the screen, and it will say connected but I can't hear shit. The person on the other end can hear me but I can't hear them.

I've only had the phone for 3 weeks. If they can replace it for free why not? It's not a guaranteed fix but I'm sick of having to call people two or three times just to have a conversation.

Do you have a spare (previous) phone to place your sim card back to and test? Might be a network problem. I don't see why they wouldn't replace it though if you can show them that you don't have the problem with another phone.

Everything I've read so far has said that it isn't 4G, even though they are selling it as 4G.

Disclaimer is that AT&T isn't crowded yet, but it is still nothing to laugh at.

HSPA+ that AT&T has is 4G, they also have 4G LTE out in like 6 markets.
