...and with Sprint growing its Android phones, I wonder if they want Apple in the mix too...
So iOS 4.0.2 is out and it fixes the PDF vulnerability that enabled the simple jailbreakme.com jailbreak. But what it you're not on iOS 4 and you have an iPhone where is the security fix for those people? People who still use the original iPhone or iPod touch or those with a 3G that chose not to upgrade to iOS 4 due to all the reported performance issues other users are experiencing after upgrading. Where's their fix? Apparently Apple doesn't care about them and there's no fix coming for them.....unless they jailbreak! If you're on 4.0.1 or lower and you want to get the PDF fix you can go to jailbreakme.com and do the jailbreak. Then after that launch cydia and do a search for PDF and install the "PDF patch" from saurik the guy who discovered the PDF flaw to begin with and you'll be good to go! This includes iPhone 4 users like myself, just install this patch there's no need to upgrade to 4.0.2 and lose your JB, you can have your cake and eat it too!

So in some cases you're more secure IF you jailbreak your phone than if you don't, thanks Apple!

^ I don't mean to come off as a smart-ass; it's 5:10am and I'm alittle punchy without sleep.
But what in the fawk does that screen you displayed can make my phone calls better or make the music better or make the camera better?
I guess it has to do with customizing the handset.
I'll take a Chiquita banana sticker and piss on it to have something different.
Again, punchy, an Android users that likes uniqueness.

hmm... tried to delete all the content on my iphone 3GS to get it ready to sell and for some reason its just stuck at the apple logo and a frozen progress spinning thing.
luckily i backed up the blobs so ill just restore to 4.0 and jailbreak it again.

Heh, I happened to brick my 3GS last night. I was messing around on cyberduck (openssh) and I accidentally dragged a folder into another and didn't notice where I got it from and where it went... so I said whatever. Luckily I had synced before I started my tinkering. Phone worked fine until I tried turning it on this morning, it was stuck in recovery mode. I was able to restore and sync from my backup and get most of everything back to normal between getting ready for work
too easy.
too easy.
Oh sweet! I was poking around SBSettings and saw how to turn on the "Numeric GSM" readout instead of looking at those bullshit bars I can get the actual db readout!
If you have SBSettings and you want to have numbers instead of bars open sbsettings click on "more">"system options">then turn on Numeric GSM. I also turned on Numeric Wifi for my iPad!

BTW, another way to view Netflix is through that program PlayOn. Initially it was to watch Netflix through your PS3/360/Wii but now they all have the ability to so they expanded to other channels like Hulu, Amazon VOD, mlb.tv etc. Last week they came out with the ability to use through your iPhone via Safari since their app is taking forever to approve. Through Wifi (which is pointless) at first it was slow as shit but after a reboot of my PC I was watching South Park via the Comedy Central channel. The 3G didn't work but that was before my reboot. I tried it just now from work but it won't find my PC so I'll call my wife later to open the program.
This program isn't free. Normally it's $40 for the first year and $20/yr after. However there are ways reinstalling to get around that should you go that route. Luckily you get a 14 day trial to see how good your connection. Supposedly a G router isn't fast enough but then again I was watching South Park with very few buffers. However, my laptop's CPU usage was spiking and at times sustaining 100% so I'm on the fence.

i'm a little late to the game, but last night, i finally got around to updating my 3g software to os4.
i backed up my phone and all, and when i clicked on update, it was taking forever. i'm talking over an hour. shouldn't take that long since it hasn't been that long since i backed up my phone.
so i stopped it and tried again. it still kept hanging. a friend told me i needed to update by clicking restore. so i did that. but about 60-70% through, it kept hanging again.
now, i can't turn my phone on. after i press the home and sleep/wake buttons, i get a screen telling me to plug it into itunes.
anyways, am i SOL? should i go to the apple store during lunch? should i just upgrade to iphone4? i got my 3g around this time 2 years ago. so i should be eligible for a free upgrade by now. (when i checked via text a few months ago, it told me i can upgrade for $18 or something like that.)
please help. thanks.

Putting iOS4 on your 3G was going to make your phone painfully slow anyways. Might as well upgrade to a 4. I think they'd just restore your phone with I think it's called DFU or something. I doubt you bricked your phone.
They should waive the $18 activation fee if you've had your 3G that long.
You could also put your 3G back onto version 3.1.3. That's what I did with my wife's 3G when the os4 update screwed it up.

Another option would be to attempt to create a custom ipsw (firmware) that has multitasking stripped from it and try restoring to it through iTunes.
well, i went to the apple store during lunch, and the genius bartenders restored my phone.
apparently, what caused the hangups was moisture that got in the charger area. (a few months ago, i did drop my phone in a bowl of hot and sour soup.
)
he did some cleaning in the backroom, brought my phone back out, and restored it. it has the new OS...a bit nervous since a lot of people are saying it's a problem with the 3g phone. we'll see when i get home and sync it to get all my apps, contacts, etc.

Have you ever been jailbroken?
-If so, did you backup your hashes with Cydias signature server?
-If not,AFAIK you can't anymore.
I would try at the very least to downgrade to a stripped version of iOS4 using pwnagetool.
You are the perfect example of why the dev team pushes their jailbreak tools... To allow downgrading.

I just downloaded the 3.1.3 firmware (IPSW) and restored directly to that from iTunes.
Bingo. You must have done this when Apple wasn't verifying firmwares on iTunes for older devices. If of the baseband on 4.0.2 is compatible with 3.1.3, it should work.
Download 3.1.3 and try restoring to it. If you miss iOS4, download pwnagetool 4.01 and an ipsw for 4.0.0 and strip it of multitasking on pwnagetool... Restore to that custom ipsw.
