What does IPSW mean? I have friends with 3G 4.0's that wanna downgrade.

How do you downgrade it? Where do you download the file? Go into iTunes and what?

Sync the phone.

Download this firmware... http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....8_Restore.ipsw

Right click on RESTORE in iTunes and choose that firmware to restore to.

So I get my iPhone 4 = , impressed as it's the first time I hold one.
Jailbreakme.com at AT&T store =
Driving home to sync it...
Getting a message saying "your iPhone could not be used because it requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later" =
Go to best buy to buy invisibleshield...
So I go to Apple Store to ask what are my options... Rep says I can bring my iMac tomorrow and they'll upgrade me to snow leopard for FREE!!!!

I <3 Apple!

so i installed the older version of shazam.

dont need to jail break the phone.

just gotta delete the app from your phone and then copy the .ipa file into itunes. and then resync it.

hopefully i dont have that 5 tags a month bull shit that they just imposed on the free app.

Thanks for the downgrade info. I forwarded to my friends. I assume that the lost speed from the upgrade came back?

downloaded soundhood since it doesn't have a cap AND it has the function of recognizing a song when you hum or sing it.

The free one of soundhound does have a 5/month cap. But they give you options to earn more tags.

I probably just deleted it, considering there was 43GB in the Recycle Bin the other day.

It could easily be something on their server that blocks more than 5 requests/mo from your phone

I don't know what monkey is responsible for QC at Apple when it comes to releases, but if they don't stop fucking up Audiobooks I'm going to punch them in the vagina.

Jobs: Software Update to Address iOS 4 Performance Issues on iPhone 3G 'Coming Soon'
Friday August 20, 2010 10:26 AM EST; Category: iPhone
Written by Eric Slivka

A new email from Apple CEO Steve Jobs appears to confirm that the company will soon be issuing a software update to address issues with the iPhone 3G's performance under iOS 4. Late last month, the company acknowledged that it was "looking into" user reports of the issues.

The new email came in response to feedback sent by a customer who expressed frustration over the performance of his iPhone 3G, calling it "dog slow" and pointing to problems with system responsiveness when scrolling, zooming, and typing.
I've waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I've read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I'm not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.

Jobs' response was unsurprisingly terse:
Software update coming soon.

Sent from my iPhone

While Jobs did not offer details on the planned software update, he was most likely referring to iOS 4.1, which has been in testing with developers. Anecdotal reports have indicated that the iOS 4.1 betas do seem to be improving performance on the iPhone 3G, but confirmation that the company is addressing the issues will be welcome news to users who have been frustrated by iOS 4 performance on their devices.

I love how they say they're looking into it. Like they had no idea it was bad when they released it and they were "shocked" to find out performance sucked. It's like everytime there's a problem with their shit they pull "we had no idea" card, it either makes them look like complete idiots who suck at quality testing or they're bold faced liars, or both.
