Quick question for all of you experts, I just did the 3.0 OS on my girls 3g and while some of the new settings were installed, I still cant seem to send or receive picture messages with it, I checked the apple web page and they said that and cut/paste were part of the update, but I cant seem to do either one.
I think I'm going to have to take my 3GS to the Genius Bar soon. Either I'm one of the few unlucky bastards to have this happen to me, or this is just crap I have to deal with when I have a smartphone that everyone else is used to but I'm not quite yet.
Sometimes after calling or even picking up a call I'll be able to hear someone for a second then all of a sudden this crazy static that sounds like some aliens are trying to scramble my phone call takes over and I have to end the call.
earlier this month while I was trying to get a job, I tried calling the hiring department and for some reason RIGHT after I dialed their number (and the hiring office's number only) the phone kicked me back to the home screen, no warning or anything. Most frustrating shit ever. not to mention a couple of other little annoyances which only happen 2% of the time but still piss me off like no other. I'm used to freezing and slowing down once in a while (though it doesn't help), even if I'm just using one app at the moment, but other things are just a mind fuck.
either all that or AT&T just plain sucks monkey nuts. am I crazy? or is Steve Jobs on a mission to make me go crazy? I swear when crap like this happens I feel like chucking my 3GS as far as I can.
Good luck to the rest of you, don't let me be a deterrent if you plan on getting an iPhone. but my old iPhone 2G had tons of issues, most of which were completely fixed with this new 3GS, but then a few others showed up also. why me, really.

Remember that alleged SMS-based security hole on the iPhone allowing evil-doers to execute arbitrary code and do all sorts of nasty crap like create an army of mobile zombies ready and willing to execute a DoS attack? The guy who found it, security expert Charlie Miller, said that he'd reveal the details of it at Black Hat -- and Black Hat's this week. Sure enough, Miller and his cohorts plan to unleash details of the hack today, and while they claim they informed Apple of the problem over a month ago, Cupertino's yet to make a move. We'd stop short of suggesting iPhone owners all turn off their handsets and take themselves firmly off the grid and into a completely disconnected underground bunker the moment the attack becomes public, but if it's as serious as Miller claims, it definitely bumps up the pressure on Apple to get a fix out on the double -- preferably before 3.1 drops.

Given the hype surrounding Apple's iPhone, we're actually surprised that we haven't seen more holes to plug over the years. In fact, the last major iPhone exploit to take the world by storm happened right around this time two years ago, and now -- thanks to OS X security expert Charlie Miller -- we're seeing yet another come to light. Over at the SyScan conference in Singapore, Mr. Miller disclosed a hole that would let attackers "run software code on the phone that is sent by SMS over a mobile operator's network in order to monitor the location of the phone using GPS, turn on the phone's microphone to eavesdrop on conversations, or make the phone join a distributed denial of service attack or a botnet." Charlie's planning to detail the vulnerability in full at the upcoming Black Hat conference, but Apple's hoping to have it all patched up by the end of this month.

does anyone else use the Photobucket (free) app? I can upload the pictures easily, but the problem is... it's not "cut/copy/paste" the links in order to post... Anyone else have this problem?
OHH CRAP WTF DO I DO, i reformatted to windows 7 and reinstalled itunes, and now when i try to sync my iphone it says it needs to be erased since i cant have it synced to 2 computers
ohh man what a pain in the ass this is.
first i have to hack my copy of itunes to set the library ID back to my older version, then i lose all my apps on my iphone, and am now resyncing them back to my phone.
plus you can only authorize up to 5 computers....
luckily for me i backed up everything.
there has to be an easier way to do this for people who format alot.

Astro/Mizouse maybe you can help, I sold my buddy my original Iphone (1g) when I bought my 3g, at the time when I sold it to him Iphone's weren't available in Canada so I had to unlock it. IIRC I used the unlock that used an exploit in safari and could be totally done from the phone. Anyways, the Iphone has been available here for some time now, and he's looking to upgrade the software to 3.0 from 1.1.1 unlocked. My question is what do I need to do for him so that everything works as it should? Will I still need to unlock it? or should it be alright since now my country and carrier support the iphone? Do I need to virignize the baseband still? I've been out of the unlocking/cydia game for awhile now and need to get back up to speed to help him out, any help would be great.
So the 1g iPhone was originally on AT&T? If so you still need to unlock it since by default it's locked to AT&T.
All you need to do is update to 3.0 in iTunes and then run redsn0w to jailbreak. Make sure to select to unlock it when jailbreaking it. You will also need the bootloaders when you unlock. There is website posted a few pages back when sarlacc wanted to unlock his 1g

might be getting an iphone 3GS this saturday.my sister, mom and I are on a family plan, and my sister wants to upgrade to an iphone, the guy she talked to at the AT&T store said it would be possible for her to upgrade without having the rest of us upgrade yet

so if she really wants it, and with my understanding to get the upgrade price you have to renew your contract for another 2 years, then ill just plunk down the money now and upgrade as well.

to my understanding to get the upgrade price on the iphone, that would require renewing your contract for 2 years which in this case is a family plan?

my question is, if she upgrades, would that force me and my mom to upgrade as well?

we are all eligible to upgrade.

I'm kinda digging this black and white feature on my 3GS!
