Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
^ good to know! I hope they get it working soon -
in other news, yesterday I was running some errands away from home and kinda got disoriented.. didn't know what direction I was driving.. I was in a bind and needed help.. *LIGHT BULB*. my iphone has a compass on it!! OF COURSE!!! Behold, after some initialization, it was showing me what direction I was headed in. I said SWEET I love my iphone. I happened to be going in the right direction already. So I kept driving, another two miles or so. I found out I was actually going in a direction opposite what el iphone told me I was going. So, just like that, my moment of elation was destroyed, and I had to turn around.
thanks, iphone.

I wish that you could remove the default icons from your home page. Seriously, I've never used the compass or stocks and probably never will. They should have a little options list in settings for "Show on home screen" so I could uncheck both of those
But yeah I just use google maps. Not sure if you know this but for "From" you can just put Current Location and it'll triangulate your location pretty well. Usually on a 2-way road it may not know which direction you're going but it tells you to continue north/south/west/east towards xxx road, which usually gets me on my way again.

Hmmm the compasss does move a little if I hold at an angle but it still shows about the right heading.
Maybe next time you use it, flick your phone in a figure 8 to reset/recalibrate it. I had to do that the first time I used the compass feature in google maps.

Just wait a year and buy a 1-year AppleCare contract... It'll cover one battery if you want it even though it probably isn't necessary.
I asked this before but no one responded. There's ONE dead pixel near the center of the screen. It's really small and most of the time you don't notice it. But whenever there's a black screen like in a YouTube video, you'll notice it. It's been there since day one, can I claim this? I'm pretty sure I'm still within the time period.
its been dying EVEN MORE quickly. a few days at work by the end of my 7 hour shift (i didn't even touch it) its down to 20-35%.
If so, turn all your radios off with sbsettings (even 3G) when you're not using your phone. I found that this greatly increased my stand-by battery life. You can easily turn them on with a quick swipe and tap when you need one in the middle of anything.
If not, reboot your phone every so often... sometimes an app may be sucking up battery life.
If this doesn't work, like Miz said... doing a restore usually improves battery life.
So I had been having some color issues (I thought) working with photos. Because, I was uploading them to flickr (and they looked fine) and I was under the impression that iphone had a nice screen - well I was wondering why the pictures looked desaturated on the iphone, compared to on my computer. At first I thought it was a color space / management issue on my computer since I had just got a new monitor. But, after doing some reading around, it appears that the 3GS has a washed out not-as-colorful screen, compared to the older models up to 3G.
Do you notice this on your 3GS too?

so the other day I was looking some more pics on iphone and the colors looked "OK" now. I don't know maybe its the automatic light sensor or something.
have you seen this?

how else could you remotely control a camera that doesn't have wi-fi, with an iphone? you would have to have some mechanism in-between that gives you that wi-fi link.
I'm not too sure about the compass on the iphone... if you are on a numbered highway, roads ending in odd numbers run North to South and even from East to West. Google maps seem better.
September 25, 2009 MMS Day!
Following earlier claims that AT&T would enable U.S. iPhone 3G and 3GS users to have access to multimedia messaging (MMS) by late summer 2009, the company today announced that MMS support will launch on September 25, 2009, roughly one month after the official end of summer. “We know that iPhone users will embrace MMS,” AT&T said in a statement today. “The unique capabilities and high usage of the iPhone’s multimedia capabilities required us to work on our network MMS architecture to carry the expected record volumes of MMS traffic and ensure an excellent experience from Day One.” AT&T’s failure to support MMS immediately upon the release of iPhone 3.0 software drew jeers from attendees at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, as well as U.S.-based users, some of whom have sued AT&T and Apple over the continued unavailability of the feature. The companies still have not announced the date at which tethering—another iPhone 3.0 feature, enabling an iPhone to serve as a computer’s modem—will be supported by AT&T.
