Played around with it at the Apple store...it's aight?

As much as I'm a gadget freak, I'd say the novelty would've worn off after a week. Still, it's quite smart of the Fruities to super-size the iPod Touch.

I thought this was an interesting statistic.

add in the fact that 85% of mac users also use Windows too I think that takes up the majority of the windows users in the above graph.

http://www.neowin.net/news/more-than...rs-run-windows
http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2009/10/...e-windows-too/

but iPhone usage seems much much lower than I thought.

this number has increased drastically over the past couple of years with Windows users getting increasingly tired of spyware, virus, and spam kind of sh*t getting so easily on their computers.

Kind of makes sense --

If you have an iPhone, you're not going to be in the mood to shell out another $30 per month to get your same data to another device, so you won't buy a 3G iPad.

And there's no way to tether the iPad to your iPhone, so the Wi-Fi version will probably be absurdly restricted to you in terms of operating convenience.

So you'll just stick with your iPhone instead of buying a huge iPod Touch to go with it.

If I get an ipad, I think I might JB my iPhone and get that one program that makes it a wifi hotspot.

If your 3GS isn't already jailbroken with hashes saved on Cydia, you're SOL ATM.

LA Times article:

Apple software more vulnerable than Microsoft, security expert says

Maiffret: As those things are happening, Adobe and Apple and other companies are starting to pay attention and care more. But a year ago, it was still very much a marketing thing. People from both companies treated it as a marketing problem. They didn't have good technical structures behind the scenes. Now they are staffing up and hiring industry notables like Window Snyder [ex-Microsoft security employee recently hired by Apple]. They've really only begun in the last six months or so taking security seriously and understanding that it impacts their business in a serious way.

And you think Apple is taking it seriously too now?
Maiffret: Oh yeah. It's even a little scarier with them because they try to market themselves as more secure than the PC, that you don't have to worry about viruses, etc. Anytime there's been a hacking contest, within a few hours someone's found a new Apple vulnerability. If they were taking it seriously, they wouldn't claim to be more secure than Microsoft because they are very much not. And the Apple community is pretty ignorant to the risks that are out there as it relates to Apple. The reason we don't see more attacks out there compared to Microsoft is because their market share isn't near what Microsoft's is.

Are they on par as far as code?
Maiffret: I think Microsoft does a better job with their code auditing than folks like Apple do. We've only seen a scratching of the surface as far as Apple vulnerabilities because nobody cares to find them. There's nothing inherent with Apple themselves and their development. The only reason Apple gets little increase in security is because they're running on top of a Unix-based operating system and they can take advantage of some of the things that have been done for them.

FYI, bug in the way the iPad is handling DHCP. Probably not going to effect most people here, but a reasonably significant 'eff up on Apple's part.

Looks like he did another car install and this time the iPad is easily removable. He also said he has a 3G on order to really make it worth while

We're all beta testing this thing. I had to change from WEP to WPA just to keep mine from dropping wifi every 10 minutes or so. This is apparently a compatibility issue with all standard Verizon FiOS routers. I'm sure Apple will say it's the router's fault, but I have no trouble holding a connection on laptos, PS3, Zune HD, wireless bridge, or anything else that I've connected.

It's an atom processor. which is probably faster than the A4 processor but the fact that it's run Windows 7 and not a lightweight mobile OS is the problem. Apple would've had the same problem if the went with OS X instead of iPhone OS for the iPad.
