Magic Mouse syncs with jailbroken iPad, enabling cursory cursor control (video)

The pun is so obvious it practically insults your intelligence, but we just can't help ourselves -- the iPad has just gotten a little more magical. Using the BTstack application that brought Bluetooth mouse support to iPhone, enterprising individuals discovered the same technique works on a jailbroken iPad as well, and hooked up Apple's own Magic Mouse to show it off to the world. Mind you, while this implementation does look quite useful, we do detect the barest hint of lag -- so it may not be your weapon of choice for pixel-doubled Doom sessions. Video after the break.

I don't remember the exact quote, but I believe Jobs said something like, "you'll know we lost our way when you see folders on our mobile devices."
He might have been talking about file folders, but it's the same idea. Why wouldn't they have launched with app folders if they thought they were a good idea from the start? And as for file folders, they really do want to throttle all productivity out of the iPad... If I write a note, why can't I save it to my dropbox folder? Because Apple doesn't trust me to manage my files. So while every other device that has dropbox is two-way, my iPad is read only.

Apple says they're going to be fixing the wifi problems that I've been having with an update
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3304
Symptoms
A very small number of iPad users have experienced issues with Wi-Fi connectivity. This article outlines workarounds for these issues. Apple will also address remaining Wi-Fi connectivity issues with a future iPad software update.

just saw this on macrumors
so the new ipad commercial is supposed to be like the old newton ads from back in the day.

dont you have like 8 laptops and 5 desktops and your droid, iphone and ipod touch and... ?
how many computers do you need to watch porn on? one for every room in the house?

I'm sorry but why the hell would you get an iPad if you have both a laptop and an iTouch/iPhone? Unless you were REALLY looking for a replacement for one of the aforementioned devices and were planning to get rid of it, I don't see the point. But if you have a laptop that suits your needs perfectly already...
yeah it looks like exactly what I need, the ability to create a network is a big deal. padnet and netshare can only join an already created network which means I'd have to create a network on a laptop then join it with the iPhone and make it the gateway and then join with my iPad and then after that I could shut down my laptop. That's a little much, Imma buy mywi!
My dad still uses the benm.at tethering at&t profile hack. He refuses to update his iPhone and it's still at 3.0.1. He can't live without tethering, it's the reason he bought the phone.
then he bought the wrong phone...or choose the wrong carrier.
iirc the palm pre plus that was just released on AT&T doesn't support the mobile hotspot function.
I haven't mentioned it yet but now let me show you what I'M using this device for. This was the plan I had in mind when I was at the store looking at this thing and I'm quite happy that it's going along so smoothly (besides the iPad wifi bug cockblock).
I have a hyper-v virtualization server that has on it a total of 2.5TB of storage that I use for a variety of things. I'm using a Server 2008 R2 host VM as file share and I'm currently in the process of ripping all of the good DVDs in the house and then converting them to h.264 MP4s to store on the server. I'm setting up the movies library in Windows Media Center (I'll discuss that when I'm done in the 7 thread) and I've setup the two macs to connect to the server and they can now stream movies in your collection over wifi using VLC player.
But with the iPad I found this app called FileBrowser and it is exactly what I wanted. It allows me to connect to my Windows or Mac machines and view files just like Explorer or Finder do. I can then stream video or music to my iPad from any machine in the house(which currently isn't only but 20-30ft since apple hasn't fixed the wifi bug yet). I can copy these files to my iPad I can even then copy files those same files from my iPad to another machine. So I can copy files between machines without being at either of them and I can also delete files from my machines.

It's worked wonderfully for me, I just had to enter my login info for each machine and it connects almost instantly to your machine, it's a very snappy responsive app and it was only $3 which was an introductory price so if this is what you're looking for I'd jump on it. Highly Recommended!

i have so many gawddamn movies, really considering just building/making a server to store them all onto and like the idea of being able to stream them to multiple devices.
It's mad balla tyte!I put all my nieces disney movies on there so now when the little one comes over it's "Uncle Dan can I watch a movie on your computer (iPad)? Can we watch the Lion King?"
If you use a VPN then the connection would be encrypted using L2TP, PPTP or some other VPN encryption protocol but port forwarding you'd still have to login into your PC using your PCs login credentials but I don't think the connection would be encrypted after that, I'm not an SMB expert though.

like I said you'd need the login credentials of your PC to access the files on it. you can also put a password in the filebrowser app itself so that you need to enter a password to open that app and of course you can still put the password on the iPad itself too. And you can setup file browser to not save the login info of your PC so you'd have to enter it everytime.
