I've used no-ip.com duc for creating a generic domain and have it's ip automatically updated when it changes. It's free, I'musing it so I can VNC into a clients machine when I need to and he has cable internet.

Go google it.
Did that already and most of the threads indicate no real solution as of yet ( a lot of try this and try that and see if it works). Was hoping that in the iPad thread someone would have had the issue and had a solution to it that worked for them. Normally Acurazine is a bit more helpful and trustworthy than some random site.

you could've searched this thread, I complained of it many times but yeah as linked above there is no solution yet. Though supposedly in the future...there will be robots.

There is no "fix" yet - but I did find that I could get around having to re-enter my password every time by doing the following: When you get the pop-up that the network connection has been lost and you need to re-enter your password, hold down the on/off switch. When it asks you if you want to shut it down, select "cancel." It should then automatically re-connect you to your network. Still a pain in the ass, but slightly better than having to re-enter your password every time.

Well I just got Mywi working on my iPhone and I can wifi tether now so I pretty much have a 3G iPad sans GPS with no bullshit extra data charge.

So I was reading Giz today and I saw their posts about the funny jobs/gates pics (which are hiLARious!)

and that got me thinking man I want to watch that interview cause it was a good one. For those that don't know those pics are from the All Things D conference in 2007 about 2 months before the initial iPhone release. So there's no iPod touch or Android OS, app stores, blah blah. Shit OS X 10.5 hadn't even been released yet. So I started watching it on youtube on my iPad and then it came to this part of the interview

So I thought to myself Jesus Diaz from Gizmodo would love this so I emailed it to him
So then Jesus makes a post about it and doesn't give me any props, WTF Jesus!

First, Bill Gates' idea of the future of computing:

And then you'll have the device that fits in your pocket, which the whole notion of how much function should you combine in there, you know, there's navigation computers, there's media, there's phone.
Back in 2007, however, he believed otherwise:
It will be the PC, maybe used a little more tightly coupled with some back-end Internet services and some things like that. And, of course, PCs are going mobile in an ever greater degree. Looks like the app is offered for iPad too.
Downloaded one to my iPhone two days ago called Angry Birds.
It's hilarious and funny despite frustrating at times.
It's got almost 5 full stars as a rating. One of the most fun games I've downloaded. Even if it was $1.

Earlier this week, the spotlight was put on Apple for its policy prohibiting customers from purchasing iPads with cash by a report from KGO-TV in San Francisco noting the case of a woman on fixed income who had saved up cash over a period of weeks to purchase an iPad as her first computer.
"It took quite a long time for me to just save up this small amount of money to go down and purchase one," she said. "I had my cash in the backpack and I went up proudly to the counter and told them, 'I would like to purchase an iPad.'"
She was at the Apple store in Palo Alto, about to pull out the big wad of cash and take home her first computer. Instead, she received a terrible blow.
"They said, 'Sorry, we don't take cash.'
With no credit or debit card in her name, she was unable to purchase her iPad, the victim of an Apple policy designed to help prevent customers from circumventing purchase limits in place to deal with tight supplies of the popular device.
Apple initially stood by its policy, but today Apple Senior Vice President for Retail Ron Johnson announced that the company has changed its policy to allow customers to purchase iPads with cash if they set up an Apple account in the store at the time of purchase.
About a month ago, we said we'd like you to use a credit card when you buy your iPad, and that was the best way we could think of to make sure that people only brought two per individual," said Johnson. "And then it came to our attention that Diane [Campbell], through your story, was very interested in buying an iPad with cash, and we made a decision today to change that."
Johnson said our story triggered a company-wide policy change. As of today, anyone can pay for an iPad with cash as long as they set up their Apple account at the store. Apple accounts are needed for the iPad anyway, so that is not putting anyone out.
As a gesture of goodwill toward Diane Campbell, the woman whose experience brought the issue considerable publicity, two employees visited her home today to offer her an iPad free of charge.
"I am just so excited," said Campbell. "Words can't explain right now."
Apple's "no cash" policy was not unique to the iPad, as the company has introduced it in October 2007 for the iPhone in order to deal with high demand.

I haven't mentioned it yet but now let me show you what I'M using this device for. This was the plan I had in mind when I was at the store looking at this thing and I'm quite happy that it's going along so smoothly (besides the iPad wifi bug cockblock).
I have a hyper-v virtualization server that has on it a total of 2.5TB of storage that I use for a variety of things. I'm using a Server 2008 R2 host VM as file share and I'm currently in the process of ripping all of the good DVDs in the house and then converting them to h.264 MP4s to store on the server. I'm setting up the movies library in Windows Media Center (I'll discuss that when I'm done in the 7 thread) and I've setup the two macs to connect to the server and they can now stream movies in your collection over wifi using VLC player.
But with the iPad I found this app called FileBrowser and it is exactly what I wanted. It allows me to connect to my Windows or Mac machines and view files just like Explorer or Finder do. I can then stream video or music to my iPad from any machine in the house(which currently isn't only but 20-30ft since apple hasn't fixed the wifi bug yet). I can copy these files to my iPad I can even then copy files those same files from my iPad to another machine. So I can copy files between machines without being at either of them and I can also delete files from my machines.

It's worked wonderfully for me, I just had to enter my login info for each machine and it connects almost instantly to your machine, it's a very snappy responsive app and it was only $3 which was an introductory price so if this is what you're looking for I'd jump on it. Highly Recommended!

You can use OrbLive, to access your computer remotely. I've tried the OrbLive free version, it's decent. I can imagine the $10 version is better. I just have a hard time justifying a 10 buck app when the windows version is free.

Whether it be because you’re an admirer of the gear, or you just enjoy seeing Apple products stripped of their dignity, you have to admit it’s mighty satisfying to see the new iPad Wi-Fi + 3G torn asunder. The guys at iFixit continued their tradition of promptly tearing down and analyzing the latest Apple products with the 3G iPad and noted some pretty interesting finds in the process:
- The immediate visible difference is the inclusion of a black plastic RF window on top of the iPad for better antenna reception.
- The black RF window significantly changes the opening procedure. You cannot start separating the display using the notches on the top (à la Wi-Fi version), since that will undoubtedly break the RF window. You have to start from the right side and gingerly proceed to the top and bottom of the iPad.
- There are actually FIVE antennas in this iPad:
- Two antennas handle the cell reception — one is in the RF window on top, the other attaches to the LCD frame.
- A single GPS antenna is also housed in the RF window on top.
- Just like the iPad Wi-Fi, there are two antennas that handle Wi-Fi / Bluetooth connectivity, one in the Apple logo and another to the left of the dock connector.
- You heard that right, folks: Apple looks to be using the entire LCD frame as an antenna! * Who would’ve thought: Apple uses the same 3G baseband processor in both the iPhone 3GS and the iPad 3G.
- The baseband processor in question is the Infineon 337S3754 PMB 8878 X-Gold IC. It was actually white-labeled on the production unit, but with enough sleuthing we were able to confirm its true identity.
- The iPad 3G has a Broadcom BCM4750UBG Single-Chip AGPS Solution, whereas the iPhone 3GS uses an Infineon Hammerhead II package. Big win for Broadcom!
- Apple did not change any major suppliers between manufacturing the pre-production unit they provided the FCC and their final production run.
