Apple: iPad News and Discussion Thread
It's a spoof of Napoleon Dynamite, that movie that came a few years back but this one has a bunch of black people in it. Kip and his black wife are in it from the first movie
Curiosity got the better of me and I actually bought one of these things last night. As you can tell from previous posts here, I generally don't like Apple products (and especially dislike iTunes). The one exception is the iPhone, which I respect quite a bit bit it doesn't play well with my work so I've never owned one. So despite this thing being a too-expensive luxury item for the rare niche between my 13" laptop, my cell phone, and my beloved Zune HD... I bought one primarily to finally try out the app ecosystem.
I'll give more reactions later, but here is my initial take: there's nothing revolutionary about the device itself. If I already had an iPhone or iPod Touch, I'd say it's quite redundant. The extra screen size for the app ecosystem is draw... that's pretty much it. I like the size, shape, simplicity, and battery life. I don't like a lot of the things I posted about before (especially lack of multitasking and Flash). I was also a bit surprised that the responsiveness, especially of the accelerometer, is not as good as the Zune HD. Overall, the jury is still out... It's a poor excuse for a computer, so if I think of it that way, it would be going back. As a device for consuming media, it's pretty cool. I'll be curious to see how it stacks up to future Android pads.

I was looking into this issue a little more in depth yesterday, and stumbled upon something that, as bizarre as it is, seems to make the re-connecting process a little easier. If you get disconnected and it keeps rejecting your attempts to re-join, or it asks you to re-enter your network key, cancel and go into your settings. Increase your brightness (or if you're already maxed, decrease and then increase). Then go back and re-join the network. Every time I've done this, it re-connects me to the network on the first try, without having to re-enter my network key. I have no idea how or why this works.

Lemon... don't know.
I've got the 64 as well and no wifi problems. I have two computers and the iPad running on a cable router.
Did you put your apple stickers on?

Not even going to bother reading back through what I missed.
But I love how a lot of what I argued has come to fruition. Companies such as CBS, ABC, and other going to html5.
Netflix released an app.
The full potential of this device has yet to be revealed. And when I played with one a few times I actually loved typing on it in landscape, very surprised.
Scrabble....its awesome that you can use the ipad as the board and use iphones/touches as the tile holders. brilliant.

while it's a good implementation of the technology. scrabble on the iphone/ipad is not as good or as practical or cheap as actual scrabble.

And I'm saving the stickers for a special occasion!
^It doesn't have to do with Verizon just a lot of people have verizon fios that also have iPads. It's the same similar tech saavy consumer that would have both. Old fuddy duddys don't have iPads or fios (unless someone else bought it for them).
I don't have fios internet (just TV, I get free interwebs elsewhere)
The iPad worked fine on the FiOS at work but has sucked tonight at home.

Here's a trick that I use all the time. I think they're called bookmarklets so you can google for more if you want. Below you'll see some code that if you make a bookmark out of you can you to make safari much cooler. The first is find in page which if you click the link it allows you to search the page you're viewing. The 2nd is scroll to end which scrolls to the end of a page much like tapping the black bar with the time on it takes you to the top of the page.
Find in page
http://javascript:void%28s%3Dprompt%...ffsetTop%29%3B
Scroll to end
http://javascript:scroll(0,document....scrollHeight);
I put URL tags around the important parts so it should work. I added them to the bookmarks bar which you can enable in the settings

Anyone reads that Adobe has admitted that the exclusion of Flash on the iphone/ipad has the potential to hurt them?
While I love certain Adobe products...bring on html5 or better!!!

Yeah I saw that. Did you see the blog post by the Adobe guy after they figured out that Apple is disallowing the use of Flash CS5 to make apps for iPhone OS 4.0.

That was the big feature in Flash CS5 and Adobe is supposed to release that Flash CS5 on Monday!

So the two girls I know that also bought an iPad both of them have returned theirs to Best Buy. They said it didn't do what they wanted it to do. They wanted it to replace their computers and it can't do that. One told me that when she was returning it at BB the lady working their said that a lot of other people were returning them for the same reason.
You'd probably be surprised to know that I actually bought one of these things, and I generally like it. Ironically, some of what you mentioned below are still my biggest gripes - biggest still is no Flash (well... that and no multi-tasking, but hopefully we'll get that with the OS update). I'm constantly running into Flash content that doesn't work on the web. I'm also not liking the keyboard. I'm still not a fan of Apple... still hate iTunes... and the device itself is not particularly innovative. As others have said, it's just a big iPod Touch. So why do I like it anyway? As I said in my brief review: it's a poor excuse for a computer if you try to think of it that way, but for media consumption and the huge app ecosystem, it's pretty compelling for someone like me that doesn't have an iPhone or iPod Touch. So now I'm up to two Apple products that I would endorse: iPhone and (hesitantly) iPad.
At least you can't say that I don't have an open mind!
On an unrelated note: Can you play scrabble with online players?

Funny...cause I didn't buy one
I dont know if you can right now or not..I think so cause I believe it connects to the facebook scrabble.
But when the OS update comes in the fall...with multitasking...they are creating that whole new online game environment. Im sure many of the popular games will update to take advantage.

Damn. iPad just scored a few extra points with me. Still don't see myself getting one...not anytime in the near future at least. Cool to see it can do stuff like that though.
My mom wanted to buy one until I told her that she couldn't play Lexulous with it (flash needed)....
I think the Ipad would be a great device if they somehow was able to shrink it so it was able to fit in your pocket...And maybe add a cell phone to it...

I am still loving mine. haven't managed to get it online with just my iPhone and no computer though.
I can't jailbreak either my 3G, or 3GS because I did the 3.1.3 update. I do have a brand new 3GS I am considering opening, just to jailbreak it and install MyWi...

I jailbroke my 3GS before I upgraded to 3.1.3, but restored it about a week later because I got the orange bar of death for my iTunes and didn't know how to go about fixing it and didn't have the time right then.
I loved MyWi though!
and why cant you jailbreak with 3.1.3. ??

right now using it
yup, I've been using it on my iPhone for a long time now.
and it's a out to get worse for me
