Many sites are now reporting the October date... I found this on a pretty long Froyo update thread at XDA.

http://free-pc-guides.com/news/samsu...alloween-04807
http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/...date-update-2/
http://www.t3.com/news/samsung-galax...october?=49299
http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/09...iving-october/

"It seems highly unlikely that the update is going to be locked down for just users in Spain, so you can presume that this update in late October will be available to everyone else as well."

I hate the word presume.. too close to ass u me!

Her EVO lasted until 830pm last nite, which is almost 12 hours on a single charge...

... this was with regular use and with GPS and 4g turned off...

Super Sick fast... faster than my home DSL browser...

Huge screen size... and very bright and clear... it is not an EPIC screen, but for me its great.... my hands are pretty big, so the size is fine for me...

... synchronized everything in minutes...

... I am slow on the touch screen... gonna have to get used to this... my son who has an Instinct grabbed it an rocked it so freakin fast... so there is hope for my slow fingers...

...more to come...

Have you looked at the EVO and EPIC side by side?

I really think this will be what makes the difference for you... force the peeps at the Sprint store to run both phones for you, with you... if I wasn't trying this new touch screen thing, I would have gotten the Epic.

From my earlier post:

So in the end, the HTC Evo is almost as fast as the Samsung CPU wise but gets destroyed in gaming due to its outdated GPU. The PowerVR-SGX450 is about 2-3x more powerful than the PowerVR-SGX530 found in the Droid.

Depending on where the state of gaming goes for Android, you can expect the HTC Evo to not be able to run the future 'HD' Gaming due to the gpu demand. Here's AndroidandMe's GPU benchmark test of the Samsung vs. Nexus One:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl4p5...layer_embedded

The Nexus One and HTC Evo are essentially the same phone. The HTC Evo just has a 4.3" screen. With that said, the HTC Evo is still a nice phone. The Captivate will be lacking a front facing camera and camera flash. Two things the Evo has. So we'll have to wait and see where Android goes with gaming.

All the new Samsung Galaxy phones coming out in the next couple of weeks will all be similar just tailored to each carrier. The best one, however, will be Sprint's Epic 4G. It will have a keyboard, front facing camera, camera flash and whole nine yards. It'll be the top of the line Samsung Android phone once it comes out.
Remember this info from Mike too (page 7)... so your use of the phone may make the choice for you!

Definitely play with them at the store. Sense UI and TouchWiz are very different and some prefer one over the other. Also, the screens are very different. The other stuff they're pretty equal in besides the GPU. Speedwise they should be pretty close.

Sounds like you're enjoying the phone. Look up on how to install Swype or you could always just say your texts instead of typing them.

Here's the T-Mobile G2 unboxing and benchmarks with some gameplay. The scores are pretty good and I'm sure XDA will figure out a way to OC this thing once they get a hold of the source code.

Which Droid is it? Also which OS? I'm assuming Android 2.2 since most Droids are on Froyo nowadays. Anyways here are some instruction I found:

http://www.unstableapps.com/?p=81

Ok everyone, by now most everyone knows that with the latest 2.2 updates from Motorola and Verizon, your automated software rooting tools no longer work. Easy Root is of course included in this. The following is what I recommend you do to get your root back.

Droid 1 Users:
1) SBF Flash back to FRG01B 2.2. Here is a great guide for this.
2) Use Easy Root to root your newly downgraded phone.
3) Install ROM Manager by Koush from the Market (If you can, get the $4.99 version to support this great work. If you can’t, there is a free version as well.)
4) Install a custom ROM (I recommend CyanogenMod 6 personally) and never deal with Motorola and Verizon taking all your roots away again.

Droid X Users:
This are a bit unclear for you guys at this time. With the /boot partition getting locked down for now and no “real” recovery partition it makes life a bit difficult. The official 2.2 update will remove your root and block tools like Easy Root. Once the official 2.2 OTA hits we will see what our options are.
So, this post will get updated later for the Droid X when the official OTA hits, but the key thing to get out of this…get away from official ROM’s from Verizon/Motorola. They will constantly try and stop you from using your phone as you like. If you have a Droid 1, get CyanogenMod and enjoy having root and faster more open phone.
Thanks.

I have decided to get the EPIC. Tomorrow. I will post how it goes. I liked the screen better.
I also liked the feel of the phone. A bit more roundish.. not so square (EVO), but it was even stressing me out choosing a phone lol.

Thats when you know both phones are good. lol. I have to agree about the responsiveness on the Galaxy phones screens. Like I said in my review in the other thread, the screen is very responsive compared to other Android phones I've played around with. My friend bought an Anti-glare protector for his Vibrant and it feels buttery smooth. It's nice not to have fingerprints on the screen but it dulls the colors a little bit.

I really want to get a screen protector myself, but I hate that it will affect the screen colors and sharpness...

I finally took my Vibrant apart to see the parts inside. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem interchangeable with the European version in terms of the 3G radio bands. So I don't think I'll be transplanting anything. On the bright side, I just found out that the Latin America version is exactly like the Canadian version but with 8 GB instead of 16 GB. So it should be able to get the ATT 3G bands as well.

I'm avoiding getting another Canadian Galaxy phones because they seem to be the majority with SDCard errors so I don't want to have to deal with that again. People are reporting that their phone's SDCard kinda corrupt on their own. I might just sell my bricked phone for parts. I've seen some people getting around $300 selling their bricked phones on eBay due to the Super AMOLED screen.

If you get the clear ones, it shouldn't change the screen colors or sharpness. Its just you'll get fingerprints. The Anti-Glare/fingerprints use a matte material that dulls the colors but gets rid of fingerprints and glare. So it depends on whats more important to you. But in the case of the Galaxy phones, a screen protector is not really necessary as it uses a Gorilla glass.

I really want the EVO. My sister-in-law has one and after playing with it for a few minutes, I love it. Much better than the Moment I have now. If I upgrade to the EVO, I lose the $24/mo plan I have now. I believe I'd have to switch to a $35/mo plan, but the unlimited data, text and 500 minutes would stay the same.
