Good player.
The sizzle in the Steak
So, his problems from SJ continue perhaps. Good at amassing prospects and good pipeline...but, not great at finishing. But, hey...at least he tried with getting Richards. Although, I did say pages ago at the time of the trade that I think you guys would miss Simmonds' spark.
Good player.
Good player.
Missing: Smyth, Poni, Zeus, Simmonds,
New: Richards, Gagne, Fraser
Big hole that was never filled in terms of offense and grit.
Not to mention offense was lacking last year as well.
Deano dug a bigger hole that he never filled.
The OG plan for this year was Brad Richards.
My feeling is that it was the ONLY plan.
You can't tell me that plan B was Gagne? Versus Brad Richards?!?!?
No way.
Deano thought they had Brad Richards for sure, when that failed they scrambled, and came up with not much.
Then Deano dumpster dived for Moreau and Hunter.....both were horrible and have now been waived.
Everyone hoped Penner would turn into his former self after some off season conditioning....but nope.....he was just as horrible as ever....and is now riding the pine.
Sure it was bad luck for Gagne to go out for the season (and perhaps for his career)....but everyone knows he had a history of head injuries....it was a risk, and it turned out to be a bad one.
Bottom line: The offense was NEVER addressed from last seasons lack of it....in fact it ended up going backwards in terms of production.
....and I haven't yet brought up the horrible coaching system, that kills offensive production....and probably the worst offensive PP assistant coach in the league: Jamie Kompon. How that guys is still employed is beyond stunning.
I feel the need...
I'm shocked you haven't gotten a promotion yet Moogs. You've already proven you can run HMC, enough of this 'not making the playoffs' shit - get that failboat righted!

Simmonds would have been helpful, but is nowhere the reason why the team is a mess.

And also, good point on Handzus. He's a very good 3rd line center.
The sizzle in the Steak
Richards is going to be a 6 million cap hit in his late 30′s.
btw....at the time the Kings did not have Doughty signed yet.
So there was an unknown there, so they could only do so much.
Did the Kings overpay Doughty....today...sure....tomorrow...I dunno...the jury is still out.

Backstrom out is hurting us, but trading Steckle is what has killed us. They haven't got that great face-off winner that he was. They think Halpern was it, but he's not.

Yup. You did. Your tune changed and did a 180 IMO...
Here are your posts...and there are more if you'd like:
There, you're saying the Kings are deep and can deal without Drew because...well, they are very good already. Deep team.
Again, you are showing your adoration and excitement to the team in on paper...Richards, Gagne, et al are on your team.
Cup run. You are thinking it.
One-two punch...you sound again, very happy about the team. All set.
Heck, you are so happy about Mike Richards, you don't even think Brad matters to your team anymore.
More evidence you think your Kings are in very good shape. Good team.
Who said he was not trying to get the player? Oh yea...YOU did.
Lombardi did not want Brad, but AEG did.....AEG is Lombardi's employer. Sure Lombardi can up and quit...but that's not what happened. IMHO....I think Deano knew (just like most people) that L.A. did not really have a shot....even though Uncle Phil wanted Brad badley and sent his right hand man Tim to the big show, but it was never going to happen.
What happened with ownership pushing on Deano in pursuing a player happens all the time. You are a pretty big sports fan, you should know this.
Deano's plan is working perfectly.
Deano's mantra for years (and over multiple or-gan-eye-zations) has been the same......if they signed Brad for ungodly cap-hell money.....he would have some serious "splaining" to do.
All of the sudden Deano would go all Jekyl & Hyde.....only one reason that would happen: Ownership.
Deano and the Kings are sitting pretty.
And last one.
So, yeah...I think you did.
Here are your posts...and there are more if you'd like:
So an offer that puts him in the Top 5 defense man salaries is not enough?!?!?
Be serious...the kid has been offered serious coin....the sticking point IMHO is the length of the contract not the coin.
Kings are huge on D depth, Deano can afford to sit and play the waiting game.
Drew is and will be a superstar for many moons, but the kid is young and did not have a fantastic season last year....he got a concussion, and just played like a young kid that his is, and made some kid-like mistakes. He will be signed eventually, he will become great, and more than likely win a Norris or two before his new contract expires.
The Kings are better off without Deano That made my Monday...thanks dom~!

No sensitivity, just pointing out how a quote like "what exactly has Deano accomplished?" is
He has done a good job until now?!?!
This is the best team he has put on the ice since he has been with the Kings....put down the bong!
Clearly he has accomplished A LOT!
Tell me, how is your GM doing?...and by golly, he won a Cup as a GM!!!
By your logic, HOF players who never won a Cup have not accomplished anything?
Fantastic GM's that build Cup contending teams from the ground up, but never have a Cup winner have not accomplished anything?

^^ Only one guy gets outraged around here......it's this guy who believes you can throw just about anybody in goal to win a Stanley Cup......perhaps you heard of him?
What are the Kings going to do with three 1st line centers?
If the Kings did not trade for Mike Richards....I'd be more of the line of thinking they are going for Brad.....but with Kopitar and M. Richards....there is no need for Brad.

...and Deano wins again. Sure AEG put a gun to his head and wanted Richards come hell or high water.....but like last year, Deano is smart to be a bridesmaid once again.
Rangers: Enjoy cap-hell. Richards: You will never win the Cup as a Ranger.
Gagne: Welcome to L.A.....your contract and cap hit are like liquid gold!!!
Kings looking
Next up: Doughty signs and we all feel right as rain!

Good finds...context is lacking a bit.
...and yes they are and have been deep on D depth....offense and forwards....not so much.
However, I never said were a very good team, only the best Dean has put on the ice to date.

But, but... he's the GREATEST GM EVAR! isn't he.
I can see LA being one of those teams that's has a bounce back year next season. The talent is there, its not coming together for whatever reason this year but it could change fast.
Once Deano is shown the door.
The sizzle in the Steak
My opinion is there is no denying he put together a strong core.
Especially in terms of defense. However forwards are sketchy at best.
Additionally his coaching picks are a mess, and his loyalty to people blinds him from making correct decisions. See Murray, & Sutter.
Offense comes to L.A. to die.
New coach, and new GM will get the Kings a bounce-back year.
I can't see it happening any other way.
The sizzle in the Steak
...as far as the talent being there today at forward....let's take a look:
23 DUSTIN BROWN "C" Horrible captain material would be a 3rd liner on any other team
13 KYLE CLIFFORD 3rd liner at best, more likely 4th liner
24 COLIN FRASER 4th liner to minor league
12 SIMON GAGNE 2nd liner maybe 1st liner, but his career is probably over
74 DWIGHT KING minor leaguer...playing with the Kings for they are desperate
11 ANZE KOPITAR "A" Would he be a 1st line center on a very good team?
22 TREVOR LEWIS 4th to minor league
48 ANDREI LOKTIONOV such promise, but the guy just can't cut it in the pros
71 JORDAN NOLAN minor leaguer...playing with the Kings for they are desperate
21 SCOTT PARSE ** injured 2 years in a row 3rd line material
25 DUSTIN PENNER Pancakes
10 MIKE RICHARDS 1st liner who centers the 2nd line
15 BRAD RICHARDSON 4th liner
28 JARRET STOLL 3rd liner (what happened to him this year?!?!?!)
19 KEVIN WESTGARTH 4th liner - 2 goals in about as many years I think.
14 JUSTIN WILLIAMS 1st or 2nd liner
Long story short: Enough forward talent to put one good line on the ice. Nothing more.

Oh noes Toes!!!!
Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, already out of the lineup with an upper-body injury, was involved in a car accident Thursday morning, but was not hurt, according to a team release.
According to Chicago radio station 670 The Score, Toews’ black Mercedes struck a support beam on "the Loop" just before 10 a.m, and he left in an ambulance.
The Chicago Tribune texted Toews: "(It's) nothing serious at all," he responded. "I'm good."
Also on Thursday, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville talked about Toews' previous injury, which, though not confirmed by the team, has been reported as a concussion.
"He's progressing," coach Joel Quenneville said of Toews. "I guess we'll say that's where we're at."
On Wednesday, Quenneville was asked if Toews, who is out indefinitely and was scratched for Chicago's 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, was concussed.
"It's upper body, we'll leave it at that," Quenneville said.
Toews leads the Blackhawks with 29 goals. He also has 28 assists and is second on the team with 57 points. The Blackhawks, who have won four straight, play the Dallas Stars in Chicago on Thursday.

Good thing is he is OK.
Driving to the net is clearly a different skill than driving the loop.
It's not like those support columns are hard to see.

Kinda pissed because I was hoping Carter would end up in Toronto. But when the cupboards are bare...or full of stiffs you can't make meaningful trades.

Anyhow, with Johnson out of LA, cue the arrival of the savior, Loyrov!
The sizzle in the Steak
Clearly Deano is desperate to save his job.
Will Carter bring the Kings to the promise land this year?
Will Carter bring the Kings into the playoffs? maybe....not holding my breath.
The system is still the big problem.
It all depends on Carter. There is a chance he could be Pancakes part deux.
He wasn't exactly greatness on the Blue Jackets. We shall see.
JMFJ a great guy, classy all around. Sad to see him go.
His minus ratings are a nightmare. I blame Crawford for molding JMFJ into the minus player that he is. I wish JMFJ the best.
Voynov made it easy to deal JMFJ.
Voynov 33 games - 11 points +4
JMFJ 61 games - 24 points -12
As the old saying goes: You have to give talent to get talent.
Kings increase their cap by about $900k.....not bad.
If Carter and Richards can get their dynamic duo going again then it will be a big win for the Kings....otherwise......

I guess I was right.....there was no Plan B after failing to get Brad Richards.
Straight from Deano's mouth yesterday:
I guess Gagne was not the answer.
Straight from Deano's mouth yesterday:
Question: Usually trades, this time of year, are draft picks, rental players. You giving up Jack Johnson, a part of your core, what does that say about where the team is now?
LOMBARDI: “It’s probably fair to say, like you saw us in the summer looking for a top forward, Brad Richards, that we’ve always kind of been in that market. Now, who you can get and how much you have to get up (varies), but I think the only way we can make this deal is because we have some young defensemen coming through the system. Otherwise, with how I feel about the back end, we’re still one of the best teams in the league defensively.
