Meh, I'm happy with the B's number 1 goalie having 4 shutouts and their number 2 goalie having 2 shutouts. It goes well with their league leading save percentages and their 1st and 3rd in league rankings in goals against average.

Best goaltending tandem in the league.

Can someone tell me again what it feels like to cheer on a good hockey team? I'm all numb and can't remember what it was like.

So sick and tired of this They extend a coach who hasn't made the playoffs in 4 years and has had the worse special teams in the league for 4 years running. Someone explain this madness?? I just don't get it.

Can't wait for curling to start.

I'm also finally completely fed up with the World Junior tournament. You Yanks might not understand why but up here, you can't find a channel on TV or radio that isn't talking about this fawkin tournament and analyzing every stupid aspect including injuries to people we've never heard of nor will probably hear of ever again. I've reached my tipping point and simply no longer care. They've covered it to death.

What is wrong with the ref?

First delay of game and now coincidental penalties on that hook???

And a freaking penalty shot on that?????

What part of Philly is the ref from?

All I know is it was a good game that was close throughout and had a late penalty shot.

What more do you want?

That was a good WC, definitely wish we had that weather and ice conditions for ours last year. Any time Jagr is hurt and riding the bench is always good, a flyer loss at home in front of the home fans is even better. Loved how the fans booed their own team too, really classy Philly

Hey guys. hope you all had a nice new years.

Worried about Sid...and Letang, haven't heard any news on him at all.

Winter classic was boring. I fell asleep watching it. Refs tried to get philly to OT but it didn't work, haha. Jagr pulled his vag during the game.

Hartnell said to Rupp "Show some respect, Jagr's a hall of famer" after Rupp saluted after his goal, haha. What a douche Hartnell is.

Didn't want either team to win, but rather see philly lose. Thought it was funny only two jets flew overhead when the other classics had 5 or 6 in a formation.

The 4th and final 24/7 part is being shown thursday night this week. Definitely entertaining, and I wouldn't want to play for Torts.

I lived in L.A. for over 25 years and saw more games in the Forum and Staples Center than I want to remember. Kings fans were always good for laughs due to their lack of hockey knowledge.

I read he was from Philly and that he had a connection to the team previously as well. Seems to me one should not work games of teams he is a fan of.

I agree it was a good game despite the nonsense.

I have watched and enjoyed all of the classics, although prior to this one I had no stake in it. Guess that is the difference between a fan of the game that is also a fan of their team and just a person that roots for their team.

Rangers-Flyers Draw Lowest Overnight in Winter Classic History
There were obstacles against it, like a January 2nd date instead of New Year’s Day, and a two-hour time delay, but the NHL’s 2012 Winter Classic featuring the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers still drew the lowest overnight in the history of the event.

According to Sports Business Daily (reg. required), NBC drew a 2.4 overnight rating. While this is still more than double what any indoor hockey game would draw and very solid for any January 2nd NHL game, this is the lowest overnight rating for any of the first five, and down 15% from last year’s primetime edition of the game. The game faced heavy competition, including the Outback Bowl on ABC, which drew a 5.0, and the 9.0 overnight for the Rose Bowl on ESPN.

Winter Classic Overnights
2008, Pittsburgh vs. Buffalo, 1/1/08: 2.6
2009, Detroit vs. Chicago, 1/1/09: 2.9
2010, Philadelphia vs. Boston, 1/1/10: 2.6
2011, Washington vs. Pittsburgh, 1/1/11: 2.8
2012, NY Rangers vs. Philadelphia, 1/2/12: 2.4

UPDATED: The local numbers are in. The game drew an 11.9 overnight in Philadelphia, doubling what the first Winter Classic the Flyers participated in scored in the market. New York came up with a 4.3 rating. This was by far the highest rated game in New York in a long time (including playoffs, if I’m not mistaken) but still about the equivalent to a mid-season Yankees game. It was also well below the number the Knicks drew on TNT for their Christmas Day showdown with the Celtics, which scored a 7.2, though it was against literally no competition.

Bettman better get smart and put the Wings in "The Big House" next year to save the winter classic.

I'd be up for another Wings V Hawks rematch.
That would be exciting hockey to say the least....with 100k fans in the seats.

Tightness in right leg. Tried to go at first but couldn't skate well and didn't feel like he could help the team on the ice. We could have used him for sure

Fans opinions and managements opinions can be very different things. We also remember that he was injured for about 40% of his tenure in Boston so we can't hate management for letting him go. If I recall correctly it was more about dumping his salary so they could put the team in a better position to win a cup. Can't hate the management for that decision at this point either.

The fans will always have fond memories of the times Marco was on the ice. Putting the game winning biscuit in the basket in a game at Fenway Park only helps solidify those memories.

Question for the Pittsburgh people....

My gf got us tickets to the Pens vs Leafs game on January 31 in Pittsburgh. It's a Tuesday night game so we'll be coming down on the Monday and staying for 2 nights. Any hotel or restaurant recommendations? Places close to the rink. Anything else we need to know about Pittsburgh?

Matt Cooke is her second cousin so we're also trying to set up a meet. Hopefully I can come away with some memorabilia.

there are two seasons in pittsburgh. winter and construction.

there are a few hotels right near the arena, just google it. if you want to stay out of town, there are cheaper options.

places to eat? if you like sandwiches, go to Primanti Bros. on the "Strip". upscale places I don't have advice, haven't eaten in any there.

stuff to do? lots of museums and such. recommend the heinz history center (they have sports exhibits there too), and the aviary if you like birds. there is also a carnegie science center and history museum (basically a small version of the natural history museum in NYC) also the duquense incline gives you a nice view of the city.

oh if you can get me a james neal autographed stick I'll pay you.
