Speaking of Iron Men in the NHL...Steve Larmer was probably the last and best.
Hope they retire his number someday.

no suspension or fine for Chara...
Shocking

They need to get rid of that portion of the boards.

I guess we can't get Waldorf to comment on his Kings for a bit while he comes up with his 50K thread.
Trolling Canuckistan
He's got a pretty clean record with only one suspension in his career. Can't complain about Campbell for this one either, he's not allowed to rule on disciplinary issues regarding the Bruins.
I read an article earlier today where 3 or 4 Maple Leaf players and the coach were all quoted as saying they didn't think it was a dirty hit.

Not quite sure it was dirty either. He could have pulled up, but we've all seen far worse intent.
As for Campbell, he shouldn't be allowed to rule on anything, period. What if the player in question had once upon a time taking a questionable shot at his son, or got into a fight with his son, etc.....
Any possibility he may have given Murphy the ole, "Hey, the Bruins are in a tight battle for a top 4 spot, take it easy on Chara" As long as his son in in the league he has no business making these types of decisions.
His judgment will always be in question IMO.

Apparently he's not allowed to be in the room or take part in the discussions at all. Whether Murphy talked to him after he spoke with Chara at noon and when the ruling was made but he's not supposed to.
Senior Moderator
Apparently, and apparently 2+ years ago the Phoenix Coyotes were never in trouble and the NHL isn't paying the bills in Atlanta either. This is a league known for their blatant lies to make themselves look good. Campbell has no business in that office. There are 100 other people better suited to that role.
Trolling Canuckistan
I'm not defending him. This is the first time I've agreed with the leagues decision on a B's issue. We were expecting Chara to get suspended just because we always get suspended in these situations and usually harshly.
chips and smokes, lets go
^I'm sure Chara would be shaking in his skates...
It was interference and an unlucky spot to get hit. No question Chara went out of his way to rub him out, but I don't think his intent was to have the guy's head crushed on the stantion. Chara seems like a pretty honerable guy, plus someone that big and strong doesn't need to resort to cheap shots. He can do plenty of damage leagally.

There are no National Hockey League teams that wear winged helmets. But it seems that everywhere you look in professional hockey's top league these days, there is a touch of maize and blue complementing each team's colors.
In the 2009-2010 season, 23 former Michigan hockey players laced up for an NHL team at least once, making Michigan the most represented college in the league.
"It's almost like a guy on every team has spent time in Ann Arbor," said Mike Knuble, who played at Michigan from 1991 to 1995 and is currently playing his 15th NHL season as an alternate captain on the Washington Capitals.
When it comes to former players in the NHL, no other college team comes close really. The Wisconsin Badgers ranked second with 17 former players in the NHL last year.....

QUEBEC CITY (AP)
Montreal police started a criminal investigation Thursday into the on-ice hit by Boston's Zdeno Chara that left the Canadiens' Max Pacioretty with a severe concussion and cracked vertebra.
Police said they are acting on a request by Quebec's director of criminal and penal prosecutions, Louis Dionne. Police added that after evidence is collected it will then be determined if there are grounds for prosecution.
The NHL said a day earlier it would not suspend Chara for Tuesday night's hit, when he slammed Pacioretty into a glass partition.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, who was in Washington, D.C. speaking at a congressional briefing focusing on the state of hockey in America, reportedly said the Pacioretty injury horrific, but part of the game. But he said he stands by the decision not to suspend Chara.
"Our hockey operations people are extraordinarily comfortable with the decision that they made," Bettman told reporters, according to a Canadian Press report. "It was a horrific injury, we're sorry that it happened in our fast-paced physical game, but I don't think whether or not supplemental discipline was imposed would change what happened and in fact the people in the game who I have heard from almost to a person ... believe that it was handled appropriately by hockey operations."

Only 3 games to Kubina to his blatant elbow to Bolland's head?!?? Wow...
Sure, Chara's hit on Patch was gruesome because of the end result...but, at least that was a clean hit. It was a shoulder to shoulder hit and the end-result was really unfortunately terrible luck on the victim. But, 99 out of 100 times, a hit like that is a good hit.
Kubina goes and makes a head-shot on Bolland and clearly, those are intents to injure and with concussions all the rage now in the NHL and sponsorships being threatened (which is kinda silly for the Chara incident despite the unfortunate outcome), 3 games on Kubina is not enough.
The sizzle in the Steak
Montreal police bunch of whiners.
Stay out of the game.
It was a clean hit....clearly no intent to injure.....albeit a bit late of a hit.

No wonder people in the States can't take the NHL seriously. Such a great game mismanaged like this.

I think they want to see someone literally killed before taking the proper action.

He didn't have the puck, given the recent history between those two players and obviously the longstanding rivalry hate - I'd be more than a tad suspicious.
Oh, and why doesn't the league put better padding on the turnbuckles or angle/curve the glass so its not a 90 degree edge.
