Just heard the story, apparently, Sid and Savard were going to fight, Savard said "Take off your visor and I'll fight you" so Sid went to the bench and unscrewed his visor, but then the rest of the game Savard wouldn't fit him. Yeah, Crosby's such a whiney bitch

Maybe not a whiney bitch but definitely a classless punk. 3rd man in, punches you in the back of the head then starts pounding you in the nuts from behind.

^We've already seen and discussed this clip a few pages back.

C'mon though. The video is edited to make Sid look as bad as possible. You see the players going into a scrum and then it edits to Sid going after Valabik. Who's to say something dirty didn't happen to Sid in the scrum, and he was just getting even? Was the play dirty? Yes, we don't see everything that happened.

Classless? Seriously? If you're categorizing the guy based on this one play, you should pay more attention to the guy both on and off the ice. More than anything, that clip reinforces the fact that Crosby is a great teammate and leader by sticking up for his teammates. To me at least.

Then what about his jumping of Brett McLean? He jumps him off the face off when McLean had his head down pulls the Jersey over his head and proceeds to wail on him.

^ If I remember correctly, that whole game was a shit show. Yes, you would have liked Crosby to have invited McLean to the fight instead of just bringing him along. I'm sure Sid was just getting some payback.

Let's not forget that Crosby has a bigger target on his back than any other player in the NHL. He's definitely taken his fare share of dirty plays.

If that was any other player doing that, SUSPENSION!! And if someone was doing that to Sidfagney, you'd be screaming bloody murder til this day.

Wow, relax. Sidfagney? Dude, you need to put you Caps/Pens rivalry aside and realize that Sidney Crosby one of the best hockey players on the planet. As a hockey fan, you should watch and appreciate what he does.

His status is a double edged sword. He may get away with a call here and there but he takes his fare share.

Yep. Heard the same thing, in fact, Kunitz was interviewed today and confirmed Savard was talking and told Sid to take off his his visor and he'd fight him. And I guess Crosby left it off all game waiting for the chance.

Brings up a question though.. With these new rules, would it be considered a staged fight if a player goes to the bench takes off his visor to fight?

McLean
''He said something before the drop but I really didn't pick up on it. So, I kind of wish I had now. Like I said, everyone can understand what he was trying to do for his team. He's their leader, their captain.''

I have plenty of respect for Crosby's skills as a player but he has a lot to learn about the code of conduct of fisticuffs in the NHL.

The Mclean quote is just hockey PR, no hockey player is going to cry about getting into a fight. The pulling the jersey over the head and continuing to through punches at a blind man is just weak, add that with the face shield and being the instigator and I don't even know what to say.

As weak as players throwing punches at guys on the ground or laying on top of them talking shit but it happens everyday the same as the jersey over the head.

I do notice you're not commenting on Savard. Nor are you recognizing the fact Crosby went to the bench and took his visor off to fight Savard (if you really want to talk about crosbys fistcuffs code of conduct)

You can cry about shit that happened in the past that will be overly analyzed and brought up over and over or you can look at what's being talked about today.

I've actually been searching for evidence of the "take off your visor and I'll fight claims" but so far all I can find is random hearsay on forums like this.

If Savard did do that it's rather curious but lets face it, Savard's not a fighter, he doesn't claim to be one and he doesn't try to be one. It seems like those are the guys Crosby is willing go after.

That clip is pointless, Crosby's been in a few fights and scrums, yet the only clip that you guys ever post is that same one over and over, which as others point out is edited

He gets more liberties taken against him than any other hockey player I've ever seen.

Good points herb, he def takes his share of cheap shots and butt ends of sticks off of face-offs and hardly ever even reacts to them. You still gotta respect what he does on the ice, he is ridiculously skillful and creative

After watching those vids, since when do hockey players not drop their gloves when they fight? I don't recall seeing that in all the years I've been watching the game. IMO, that's up there with using your stick to intentionally club someone.

I agree with a lot of what's been said here, but I don't think there's any justification for what Crosby did, whether he got jobbed or cheap-shotted earlier or not. Hitting a guy from behind, as the third guy in, leaving his gloves one and then cracking him in the cherries is just cheap no matter how you spin it.

And the jersey over the head thing has been going on forever. I used to watch Dave Schultz do it back in the 70's. Once he got the sweater over your head, it was over. Nothing new there, just a part of hockey fights.

Top players on every team get hacked and whacked. Crosby's not the only guy with a target on his back.

Here's the only fight I can remember Savard starting. It was such a sad event (as far as hockey fights go) that the ref's wouldn't even give him a fighting major, they ended up with matching minors. As you can see, it's a direct and immediate response to multiple cross checks to the back. He didn't wait until a later time in the game to get his revenge with a cheap shot.

^^The refs used to give matching roughing majors on occasion where the fighters didn't put on a good bout...pretty funny

Even though I'm an avid Flyers fan (and Brodeur has certainly got his share of wins against us), congrats. It is a record I will probably not see broken in my lifetime.

Brodeur has made the Flyers his bitch over the years, so part of me hates his guts, along with the rest of the Devils, but the guy is a great goalie.

Tough loss for the Flyers against the Wings last night. They have a bad habit of trying to sit on leads. Can't do that against Detroit.
