Meh. I dealt with scheduling issues last week. It wasn't until the weekend when I made up the games played and points.

In the East, I'm going with New Jersey. With Brodeur in net, I still think they're the team to beat. I put them just above Boston, Philly, and Pittsburgh. I don't think Washington has the goaltending to go far. Cam Ward has been on fire as of late and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Canes a run either.

In the West, I'd like to say Detroit but after seeing Osgood last night I'm not sure. They have probably the best player in the league in Datsyuk, but I can see Osgood costing them in the playoffs. San Jose looks good too but Thornton and Marleau need to step it up in the playoffs which they've been unable to do in the past. I like Calgary. I think they have the total package.

^ Absolutely agree with Herbie that NJ is the scary in the East. As for the West, if Luongo catches on fire, they are a team no one wants to play IMO since the guy is arguably the best goalie in the conference.

That being said, my pick out of the West is SJ. They are due and that team is deep...Of course, my heart says Chicago for the Cup.

Pittsburgh to come out of the East

San Jose the West.

Every year I hear the same thing about Jersey. They finish 4th or higher and because the have Brodeur they can win etc.....and every year they go out in the 2nd round it seems.

I don't see Pittsburgh getting past the Flyers, watching that game Sunday the Flyers had their number. The Flyers were playing like it counted, they'll do the same in the playoffs. It's Boston if they play the way they can or the Devils. I agree with herbalist, the Caps goal tending not as good as last year run just to get in the playoffs.

The West SJ or Red Wings, I don't see any team in the 3-8 position getting on a roll.

I don't put it just on Brodeur. They finally have a team that can score which is something they didn't have in the past. Their defense has also improved quite a bit after losing some key pieces over the past few years. And I really like a lot of the playoff type guys they have on their team. Langenbrunner, Madden, and Shanahan, I think these are the type of guys you need to succeed in the playoffs.

I like San Jose too but I have a feeling about the Flames. I think they have great depth.

Some good points about Jersey.

The Flyers have been a quiet team this year. Couple that with the experienced gained in last years run makes them dangerous so I see both your points.

I know its sound crazy but I just think Pitt will know what it takes to go deep. They've quietly tuned things around.

No one have any faith in the Bruins? Their slide coupled with limited playoff experience tells me they could go out early.

I forgot about Bruins lack of playoff experience, but if they find how they were playing earlier in the year, they'll make a good run.

I'm just creating an excuse in case I lose.

This will help me get over the disappointment of losing when I was in first place 1/2 of the year, had far and away the best team, and made the best moves.

Flames are possible...but, my problem with them is that Kipper has been so-so this year. He's had games where he's let in a tonne of past him.

Yeah I do the same thing sometimes.

But since we're on the topic of boasting about our teams, I would have to argue that you had far and away the best team. You were in first for most of the year and it's hard to argue with that but I would like to throw my team in the mix for best team. Led the league most of the year in goals, assists, points, goalie wins and saves. All of this will a relatively low player transaction number meaning I draft well and make quality acquisitions.

True but I think he will step his game up in the playoffs. I thought he looked pretty good last night.

Oh, rub it in. Shoot me that my initial goalies did squat for me, okay?

That and the fact that I struggled with finding scoring on D after giving up Phaneuf.

Still, not bad to climb from near last place in the first few weeks to #3.

Ah...more a testament to the Flames forecheck up front. Everyone knows my hatred for the Meh Things...but, they are seriously a soft team. If a team is able to hit them enough and go after their blueline so that it cannot do the transition to the forwards, Detroit can be had...

...that and the fact their goaltending is suspect.

Chicago (my bias aside) slapped the Flames up and down the ice in all 4 games they played. Season sweep. Flames are mortal. I still think SJ is the team to beat in the West.

Some backfired big-time, dude. Some examples: Carter, Roloson, Rinne, Steve Mason...

I agree about San Jose. The team is built to win the Cup this year and anything less will be a complete failure. They've been on the cusp for quite some time and have never been able to take that next step. I'm hoping to see more from Marleau and Thornton this year. I haven't really seen them elevate their games to where they should be in the playoffs but maybe this year will be different.

The thing is, we have some very different styles of play with the top tiered teams over in the West. You have Chicago and Detroit both playing similar types of fast transition games based on speed, speed, and more speed with Chicago having a bit more aggressive hitting (i.e. Eager, Ladd, Fraser, Byfuglien, Burish)...On the other side, you have the more forechecking teams (i.e. Calgary and Vancouver)...which if they are caught running around, can be slapped around by the speedy teams. And vice versa, if the speedy teams get hit well early, they can be contained...

SJ to me is the hybrid of the two styles...they have both and have the rare ability to play both types of games. They can run with any fast team (i.e. Detroit and Chicago) and yet, the can slow it down too. Their record kinda speaks about their depth...

Over in the East, I absolutely agree with your assessment of NJ...Added with their improved scoring is the fact that I don't think the other teams can beat out the X-factor that is Brodeur.

Although, it was a tight game Sunday. I don't see how the Pens can be this late in the season where both Crosby and Malkin don't get a shot on net.. Just doesn't make sense.. Can't take a day off like that..

You can't argue facts. My team fills the stat sheet.

And as far as you being one of the best ever, you still have a ways to go before you can compare trophy cases with me.

I agree with Dom, I think the Pens know what they need to do to go deep in the PO's. In hearing interviews with the flyers players, they said their number one objective was to shut Crosby and Malkin down, which worked very well although they made some dynamite passes when they couldn't shoot. For the East, NJ def scares me the way they've been playing, parise is on fire, so is Marty obviously. SJ I think the sharks, last year detroit scared me. This year it's def SJ

Their blueline is so much better this year with Boyle, Blake playing the transition games...Blake, Erhoff and Vlasic are also pretty well-rounded (Boyle is not IMO in that range) defensively.

Anyone hear of Tuukka Rask's little meltdown? I like the milk crate but it's not as good as throwing the bench on the ice (who was that Mike Keenan?)

NICE. Reminds me of the days when Belfour got yanked by Iron Mike on the Hawks...

And wow. What a freaking game tonight between the Hawks and Sharks!

Probably one of the best I've seen ever. Nail-biting but what a game! Woohoo, Hawks!!

It's coming back to me, it wasn't Keenan who tossed the bench on the ice it was Robbie Ftorek.
