They aren't going to get Hedman or Tavares, dude...that was evident the minute the Islanders set their rosters this year.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. That skeleton in my Av will be dust by the time the Leafs get a sniff.

Well, at least it's going to be a deep draft this year...and it's still too early to say that the Leafs are out of the "Tavares-Hedman" sweepstakes.

Heck...look at the Pens when they were able to win the rights to draft Crosby.

Horse-turd...if that was the case, what do you call Pittsburgh jumping past teams to get Malkin?

Someone who understands. Thank you.

All kidding aside and I'm not saying it definitely happened. But do you think Bettman fixing that draft is really outside of the realm of possibility?

Didn't think so.

The NHL's good ol boys take care of each other.

ie: Why we'll never see another team in the greater Toronto area even though it would instantly become a top 3 revenue generator for the NHL.

Never said it wasn't a possibility..

But the Leafs are owned by Teachers Pension Plan for the most part so who is Bettman taking care of there?

Just because there's no one face to ownership doesn't mean there's no direct report to the NHL. Richard Peddie was put there by the teachers so he calls the shots. If the Leafs don't like something the NHL is doing he'll be the one to let Bettman know.

Yea, I didn't know the hierarchy of the Leafs. Interesting to know. Of course, I just found out last year who all owns the Leafs..

Whitney Traded to Anaheim for Kunitz and a prospect

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=268759&l...s=topStory_nhl

The Pittsburgh Penguins have cleared up a bit of their log jam along their blueline as they have traded Ryan Whitney to the Anaheim Ducks for Chris Kunitz and Eric Tangradi.

The 26-year old Whitney was a vital piece of the Penguins' Stanley Cup run last year; however foot surgery caused him to miss the first 31 games of this season. He has 2 goals and 11 assists in 28 games for Pittsburgh this year.

The Boston-native is one of the better puck moving defencemen in the league and should be a big boost to the Ducks' power play. He became deemed surplus goods when fellow defenceman and Penguins' primary powerplay quarterback Sergei Gonchar returned from a shoulder injury.

Whitney is in the second year of a six-year contract he signed with the Penguins last season. He was chosen fifth overall by the Penguins in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

In Kunitz, the Penguins will be getting an offensive-minded player who won the Stanley Cup in 2007. After campaigns where he put up 60 and then 50 points, the 29-year old Regina-native has 16 goals and 19 assists this season. He has spent the majority of his four NHL seasons with Anaheim.

Tangradi, who just turned 20, is having a fine season with the OHL's Belleville Bulls. In 52 games, he has 38 goals and 87 points. He was drafted by the Ducks in the second round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Interesting move.. Whitney has been horrible since returning from foot surgery.. But they also just signed him last year to a long term deal. In 28 games he's a -15 and 13 points.

Did anyone hear Burke talk about his asking price for Kaberle...?

The guy's got it into his head that he wants a deal similar to what was done in the Pronger-Edmonton deal. Is he nuts? There is no way Kaberle is going to get 1 player (Lupul), 1 prospect (Smid), and 3 draft picks.

he's obviously expecting to loose half of that in negotiations, I bet he's expecting 1 prospect and 2 draft picks.

I think Kaberle > Whitney

And look what the Pens got for him. Burke may be playing it up but he's not as nuts as you think.

Then again my Toronto bias may be blinding me here and Whitney > Kaberle?

Last season Kaberle = Jeff Carter

Wha...? The Flyers offered Carter for Kaberle...?!?

And why didn't the trade happen or did Kaberle have a no-trade clause?

That was the rumor. And yes Kaberle nixed it with his no trade.

He's now given Burke a list of 10 teams he's accept a trade to. But somehow I don't think he's going anywhere.

Wow.

Carter for Kaberle...? Leaf fans would've been giggling for a whole year if that trade went through.

Am I the only pens fan that isn't happy to see Whitney leaving town?? Granted his numbers are down.. but I just think he needed some more time to turn things around and besides the penguins numbers as a team is really disapointing... I agree that Kunitz is a great pickup but this deal just makes me sick... It's basically how I felt last year after Colby left town...

Well, I think the Pens have a surplus of puck-moving D-men (i.e. Letang, Goligoski, and Gonchar)...so, Whitney was expendable.

Bruising forwards who can score are not that plenty...and I believe Kunitz fits that mold.
