But, puhleeze...the list of bad Hawks picks out numbers the Pens bad picks. At least the Pens had superstar players drafted in Jagr, Lemieux, Crosby and Malkin.

Impressive! I have a bunch of Hawks hockey cards from the 90s. I still remember giving away my Jagr rookie Upper Deck card to get an Ed Belfour card...

Koltsov 1999
Kraft 1998
Dome 1997
Hillier 1996
Wells 1994
Bergkvist 1993
All those guys were our 1st round pick except for endicott (2nd rd.)
They all are total busts. Then came the armstrong whitney fleury picks, then malkin crosby and things started looking up.

There really is no secret to getting the turnaround your team has gotten...suck really badly for a couple years and suck very badly in the years that yield once-a-generational type players.
Sadly, we're not going to get that this draft or next IMO. So, your original prognosis of Toronto being contenders in 2029 is IMO...correct.
That being said, I think Toronto has hope. It depends what they do this off-season and next and how smartly Burke drafts.

They just haven't sucked badly enough yet.. They like being mediocre.
Both of their farms team are playing for their leagues Cup. The Stingrays are playing a team from Alaska, what a hell of a road trip.

@ Punch-up in Piestany...
chips and smokes, lets go
I'm a little disappointed that it will be Jim Houston and not Bob Cole calling the finals. I know Bob Cole showing his age now but it's still his voice I want to hear in a big game.

Pens shattered their ratings record for a telecast again.
The Penguins' 4-1 victory in Game 4 Tuesday night on Versus registered a 27.1 average rating in Pittsburgh, according to Nielsen Media Research, compared with a 4.8 in Raleigh, N.C.
"It's a huge number," Versus spokesman Meier Raivich said yesterday.
The 27.1 rating topped the previous high of 24.97, which FSN Pittsburgh recorded for Game 7 of the Penguins' second-round playoff series against the Washington Capitals. That was the most-watched NHL game for any FSN regional sports network.
Overall, the Penguins' four-game sweep of Carolina averaged a 21.7 rating in Pittsburgh compared with a 6.2 in Raleigh. Nationally, the series averaged a 1.3 rating for the first three games -- the Game 4 numbers won't be available until today -- and attracted more than 1.5 million viewers per game.
On the other hand, the first two games of the Chicago-Detroit series on Versus averaged a 1.6 rating and attracted slightly less than 1.7 million viewers.

Best attendence of any team in the south and better that a few that have won Stanleys Cup, Pittsburgh was only nineteen on this list, but they'll get a few more seats in awhile. And as you were saying Vs, is limited to viewers.

touche my friend touche.. But I think you need to look at Percent capacity as that gives a true figure not just who plays in the largest rinks
5. Pittsburgh 102.6%
22. Carolina 88.5%
As I said the Gwens will have a bigger stadium soon. They will get about 1500 more seats with the Consol.

Interesting. Interesting.
This is an outrage. The schedule clearly favors the Pens. Bettman must be getting teabagged by Lemieux. First Crosby AND Malkin and now this?
It's a shame because if the Pens win the cup, in the minds of true hockey fans (and I don't mean those who started crowing about their team after the team became really good *cough*), it will have an asterisk. And then the question will be: when will Crosby win his first non-asterisk cup? Poor guy- as if the pressure wasn't enough already.
It's like Yumchah winning FHL. I mean, sure he had a great team and he might of won anyway, but that doesn't erase the fact that he cheated.

There's about 9,000 articles between yesterday and today stating Bettman is trying to help the Pens because Detroit is banged up and that a game this soon and back to back games is a outrage...! Blasphemy..!!
Once one article was written the rest had to have their own version to be noticed..

Its not the NHL's fault that the Ducks beat the crap out of the Wings. Thats what you get when you're teams is comprised of a bunch of Europeans.
