19 year old rookie becomes only the second Pens D-man to ever score on a penalty shot, and first in 45 years

Interesting perspective from Hockeys only real goon.

Scott understands why Shawn Thornton was angry with Brooks Orpik, but he disagrees with the attack that led to a 15-game suspension. While Thornton asked Orpik to fight the first time, Scott wouldn’t have extended that courtesy. “I probably would have just jumped him,” he said. “I wouldn’t have given him the option to skate away. I would have taken the instigator.”
Some other thoughts from JS...

The NHL tagged John Scott with a seven-game suspension for clobbering the Bruins’ Loui Eriksson. The sitdown was just one component of Scott’s punishment. Eight days passed between Scott’s match penalty and his in-person hearing with the Department of Player Safety.

“It was just nerve-racking,” Scott said. “You just feel terrible. Things are being said about you in the press and you really can’t comment on any of it. It was really crappy. I didn’t really enjoy it. Hopefully, I don’t have to go through that again.

The experience and Eriksson’s injury made Scott think about checking differently.

I could have really laid into guys the last few games,” Scott said last week. “I’ve let up because of what happened. I don’t want to hurt anybody. It’s definitely changed the way I approach hits, for sure.

Oh that Martin Jones

Jones has allowed a mere eight goals in eight games during this increasingly incomprehensible span of puck-stopping success.

In less than three weeks, Jones has gone from his fourth season as a solid American Hockey Lague starter to the NHL's leader in goals-against average (0.98), save percentage (.966) and shutouts (three, a mark shared with seven other goalies). He has stopped 226 of the 234 shots he has faced, and he hasn't allowed any opponent to score in 12 shootout attempts over two games — not even the mighty Anaheim Ducks, who went 0-for-9 to end Jones' first career victory Dec. 3.

^^ He's not in the minor league Eastern Conference, he does not throw out cheap shots every night......so I understand why you do not know who he is.

Meanwhile, out West, where Professional hockey is still being played.....;fluffy:

Big picture, as of today the 8 western conference playoff teams have 28 wins via shoot out and 26 points for losing games. The western conference isn't as dominant as you like to think it is. Being able to beat buffalo and Florida doesn't make you "professional".

^^ Keep telling yourself that. Meanwhile I was wondering why those Sucks don't seem to lose lately....then I noticed they've been playing a ton of East teams lately.

Then I looked at the Kings big win streak.....yup.....East teams...set 'em up...knock 'em down.

Yeah, gotta say...short of the Bruins and Pens...most of the East are cannon-fodder for the Western teams in the playoff picture.

Suspension upheld

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman upheld a 15-game suspension to Boston's Shawn Thornton for his attack on Orpik on Dec. 7. Thornton and the NHLPA have the option of appealing to a neutral discipline arbitrator, which did not exist under the old labor contract.

Penguins winger Pascal Dupuis will undergo ACL surgery for his knee and could miss the rest of the season.

Dupuis, 34, suffered the ACL injury Monday night in Ottawa after Sidney Crosby fell into his knee following a hip check from Senators defenseman Marc Methot.

“Pascal Dupuis will be going for ACL knee surgery in a couple of weeks and is out indefinitely,” Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma said. “The timetable is likely that he’ll be out for the remainder of the season, but we’ll see after the surgery in a couple weeks.”

Joe Vitale assumed Dupuis’ spot on the team’s top line with Crosby and Chris Kunitz at Friday's morning skate.

fuck.

Ah, cool.

Yeah, the Trophy room is beyond impressive...there are few superlatives to describe the names and history behind them.

Isn't about time the trophies get renamed. The Art Ross should be the Wayne Gretzky and the Norris, the Bobby Orr. With respect to Art Ross, Wayne Gretzky rewrote the damn record book and is the most recognizable and influential player of all time. He is the NHL. Give him the Art Ross.... or the Hart.

Unless someone can suggest a better option via trade, free agency or the draft not sure they have a choice...
