You may want to check your Canadian math.

Since 1988 they've missed the podium in Olympic hockey 2 times (2 silver, 3 bronze, and a 6th and 7th place). You can't consistently place in the top 3 yet somehow be behind 5 teams.

If you were ranking hockey nations, what place would the Finns be in? For me,

1. Canada
2. USA
3. Russia
4. Sweden
5. Finland
6. Chezchs

You can't possibly tell me you'd rank them above any of my top 4? Any else have an opinion?

Having now disparaged the Finn's I'm sure they'll lay a beating on Canada in tomorrow's world Junior Semi's

I guess the Kings decided to have their typical December slump in January this year.

...and Burke is high...really high....super high as a kite putting Dustin Brown on Team USA.
...this is 2014 Dustin Brown, not 2012 Stanley Cup winning Dustin Brown, when he was almost traded at the deadline, and his @ss was lit on fire for fear of ending up in some Sabres gear.

I dunno. Just saying that the system plays a huge part in how a player does on a team.

I read a nicely written article a bit back from a Kings observer going through the discussion on the fans' diatribes on how players on your team seem to play better elsewhere when they are traded (i.e. Moulson and etc.).

Dunno. Just sayin'. And your team can't score. Were they just shutout again?

Every fan says that about their teams players when they get traded away they magically become "better". This just in: JMFJ is still a minus a billion with the Blue Jackets Little Schenn? Simmonds?...pretty much the same stats as when they left (over the past 2 years) Patrick O’Sullivan?
Ryan Smyth? Lubo Visnovsky? Colten Teubert?

...but I digress.

Frattin is a bust. Kid looks like he doesn't know where to go on the ice.
I don't think he is anywhere ready for prime time in the NHL.

Fans always blame the system too.
That's always a good scapegoat too, but it's more times than not a bunch of nonsense.

Truth is the Kings have been without a real top six left wing for YEARS now.
Penner was a bust, Frattin was a hail Mary failure....and the Kings have a giant dead zone on left wing on the top 2 lines.

You know something is wrong when your first line LW is Dwight King.
Not to mention the revolving door of LW on the 2nd line...it's flavor of the week there.

Sutter has jumbled the lines so much to try to find a scoring punch for the LW hole that the players are completely out of sync. The only two players that still are a threat are Kopitar and Carter. Richards is DOA without Carter on his wing. The Kings bottom six forwards contribute ZERO to the game. (just look at their individual stats).....heck it took Lewis about half an entire season this year to get his first point...an assist!!!!!

Bottom line: Kings need a top six LW (been saying that for years now)....and they need to stop taking so many undisciplined penalties...just look at the penalty stats for the Kings this year

Other than that, the system is "fine"

Finally read the entire Burnside piece last night. Great read. Other than concluding that Poile has no teeth I determined the Brian Burke is a giant douche of a bully who I have no idea how he's still employed in Hockey.

Burke to Poile, paraphrasing.

Its great that you've asked coaches to participate in the selection process, I didn't. But coaches see a snapshot, GM's see the whole movie.
Comes across as a know it all who takes a swipe at the hockey knowledge of the coaches BB thinks he knows more about hockey than Blysma or Lavioette? Guy is beyond out of his mind.

Aight...but, the argument is, if you have effectiveness at C (which your team is very deep on)...and the RW is skilled; a crash-and-hit LW brute isn't so bad. Many teams use this sort of mix? So, Dwight King could be quite effective with the right C and RW.

Well, your team has some assets...tell Deano to trade some of the stud yutes and get some scoring punch in return then?

Wow, all this drama over Bobby...from TSN:

The day after Bobby Ryan reacted to negative comments made by Brian Burke in an article that was written about the process of choosing the U.S. Olympic team, the team's general manager David Poile offered a public apology to the Ottawa Senators forward, who was left off the team.

"I'm trying right now to apologize to Bobby Ryan," said Poile during a conference call on Friday. "If it was said about me, I would be upset. Denigrating any player is not what anyone signed up for."

Poile, who said he has spoken with Senators' general manager Bryan Murray about the situation, also revealed Friday that when the management team made their final selections, Ryan was on Burke's roster.

In a feature posted Wednesday by ESPN.com's Scott Burnside chronicling the five-month process, Burke was quoted as saying, "He's (Ryan) a passive guy. He is not intense. That word is not in his vocabulary. It's never going to be in his vocabulary. He can't spell intense."

Ryan addressed the comments after the team's morning skate on Thursday.

"It was kinda gutless," Ryan told a scrum of reporters. "I almost feel degraded when it comes out like that. It is what it is - that's their decision and that's how they feel about me."

Burke, who drafted Ryan second overall when he was the general manager with the Anaheim Ducks, also praised Ryan's ability as a game-breaker in the meetings, saying that while candidates Max Pacioretty and Brandon Saad were both better 60-minute players, "neither can do what Bobby can do."

Ryan said Thursday that Burke tried to contact him on Wednesday, but he hasn't called back.

Fawking and their lack of hockey knowledge.

So, how are the rankings compiled? If it is as legit as ESPN/TSN/CNNSI's "Power Rankigns", that list is garbage.

Its probably based on mostly on World Championships, neither of which the US or Canada do well in because all their best players are busy playing in the NHL. And since when does Canada or US give a hoot about the World's? Can't recall the exact figure, but there are now less than 20 Russians in the NHL. Europeans take there international play much more serious. Its the soccer mentality.

It's based on results.

The IIHF World Ranking is a tool to reflect the long-term quality of the countries' national team programme. The IIHF World Ranking is based on awarding points for the final positions in the last four IIHF World Championships and in the last Olympic Ice Hockey Tournament. The 2012 IIHF World Ranking is thus based on the performance at the 2012, 2011, 2010, and the 2009 IIHF World Championship and at the 2010 Olympic Ice Hockey Tournament in Vancouver.

Sorry, while the rankings are results-based, there is a big caveat to them esp. if you are factoring in the IIHF WCs.

Like, there is no doubt that Finland and Russia are fine hockey countries...but, there is no way they are better than Canada or the US if those countries are icing their best players head-to-head.

Yeah, of course...not saying you pull a Shero here.

But, saying, the team does have some tradeable assets. Maybe it's time to fleece the Oilers again?
