If I can't find a place to preorder, i'll try paying off someone working at a store

Personally I'll be waiting until spring. By then the hype will die down, holidays are over, and I may have some free time to actually play it... since it's gearing up to be a busy fall/winter. But I don't see a problem with people getting it on launch day.

To each their own... Personally you wont find me near any of the stores on launch day.
yeah I'll have pretty much no desire to get a PS3 the day it comes out. I will be curious to see what kind of problems the launch batch has.
also, GT:HD probably won't even be out until Summer 2007. or later.

I'm still TBA...it's not that fanatical here when it comes to console launches...But, that being said, I'm quite broke and none of the games I'm
about are out either...so, I'll likely wait until after Xmas (or Xmas if the GF buys it for me
)...

ok ps3 comes out friday nov. 17th correct? when would be a prime time to start camping out? would thursday at closing time be a reasonable time? if i can't preorder, or bribe an employee at some store, i'm gonna camp out with some people, and i will get at least 1
on another note, i have had my big old clunky ps2 since release and it is still working like a champ. the cd drive doesn't open and close as smoothly as it once did, but it still works perfectly fine. my slim ps2 also works flawlessly

Macquarie Equities analyst David Gibson wrote in a report that PlayStation 3 units on display at the Tokyo Game Show about 10 days ago operated erratically and had to be repeatedly reset.
"While the reason for this is unknown, we suspect it may be due to overheating as a result of enclosing the units and the high temperatures at the venue," Gibson wrote in the report Monday. "We are concerned that such a problem has occurred so close to full production and is clearly negative news for the company."
Earlier in the day, investment firm Goldman Sachs Group Inc. lowered Sony's stock rating to "neutral" from "buy," citing confusion over the release of PlayStation 3...

Despite recent news that many key PlayStation 3 launch titles will not feature an online component, SCEE's VP has reaffirmed consumers that the PS3 will be "network ready" out of the box and that Sony's new online space will strengthen its partnerships with development studios.
"The PlayStation 3 has been designed so that the network experience is part of the PlayStation experience," said Jamie MacDonald, vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, at a recent press conference in London. When it comes to the PS3, "developers have to change their whole approach," said MacDonald, adding that the online space Sony is creating strengthens its relationship with developers.
According to the BBC News, MacDonald noted that the "network ready" PS3 would offer similar services to Xbox Live, such as friends lists and match making.
The PS3 may be capable of online functionality out of the box, but what good is it if there are no games to support it? Out of the PS3 launch titles, only a handful are known to support online play, including Insomniac Games' shooter Resistance: Fall of Man.

Cool, seems like they're working out the last minute kinks to be ready for launch. Can you believe the first week of October is almost over? This thing will be out before you know it

Sony should be well into production now. Whatever issues we see today are going to be inherent in the design of the PS3. But it should not be a surprise about overheating as the 360 suffers the same issues.

maybe this technology can be used for the CPU too... LOL!!!!

Logitech to Bring ChillStream Technology to Playstation3
Company to Support Launch of Console Platform with Multiple Products
FREMONT, Calif. — Oct. 5, 2006 — Logitech (SWX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) today unveiled the Logitech® ChillStream™ controller for PLAYSTATION®3, the company´s first product designed specifically for Sony´s next-generation gaming platform. With an innovative built-in fan-based cooling system designed to keep the hands of gamers cool and dry, the ChillStream controller will be the only gamepad for the platform to offer this exclusive, patented technology. Logitech also announced that several of its products already on the market will be fully compatible with the new PLAYSTATION 3 console.
“The PLAYSTATION 3 is sure to be a powerful gaming platform and we are pleased to offer a range of peripherals available at launch,” said Ruben Mookerjee, Logitech´s director of product marketing for gaming. “And by extending our ChillStream technology to a controller designed for PLAYSTATION 3, we are able ensure that gamers will have the best experience and play with one of the most advanced technologies on the market.”
Logitech ChillStream Technology
Logitech´s patented ChillStream technology includes a built-in 40 mm fan that circulates up to 3.41 cubic feet of air every minute, while generating very little noise. Three narrow vents on each side of the controller push air directly onto the four fingers, the base of the thumb and the palm of the hand. The air stream can be used in one of three settings — high, low, or off.
Logitech ChillStream Controller for PLAYSTATION 3
Designed to complement the sophisticated styling of Sony´s powerful new console, the Logitech ChillStream controller for PLAYSTATION 3 comes in two finishes — metallic silver or glossy black — and features metal detailing on the mesh intake cover. In addition to the ChillStream technology, the controller´s rubber grips make holding the controller exceptionally comfortable — even during intense action. The Logitech ChillStream controller for PLAYSTATION 3 has a suggested retail price of $39.99 in the U.S. The controller will be available in the U.S., Japan and Asia when the PLAYSTATION 3 launches in November.
Additional PLAYSTATION 3 Product Compatibility
Several of Logitech currently available game controllers are also compatible with the new PLAYSTATION 3 console, including the award-winning Logitech® Driving Force Pro wheel. The Driving Force Pro wheel ensures that gamers can enjoy advanced racing features — including force feedback and 900 degrees of steering wheel rotation — with their favorite racing titles. The wheel is available now for a suggested retail price of $129.99 in the U.S. The Logitech® Driving Force EX wheel and the Logitech® USB headset for PLAYSTATION will also work with PLAYSTATION 3 games in addition to legacy PLAYSTATION 2 titles.

...if I "DO" decide to buy one on day 1, I'll probably go with costco.com. I figure comes around 8:45pm the night before (which would be 11:45pm east coast) I'll start "clicking". If I don't get one... oh well...

If you want to get one be prepared to wait long hours. With only 400,000 units its going to be tough to get one the day it comes out unless you have connections.

Me, still gonna wait. Not worth it to deal with all of the launch BS. I'll scoop one up come spring.

I GOT MY PREORDER!!!! YAY! i showed up at EXACTLY THE RIGHT TIME.. got there about 35 mins before they opened. I was #5 in line. i beat this kid there, and me and him kinda became line friends before the store opened.. LOL!!! THERE WAS 30-40 at the GAMESTOP in the mall, but none of them knew EBgames was the same thing! ROFL!!!! LOL!!!
Anyone else get their PS3 reserve?
I got my preorder. #7 on the list from EB. Spots 1&2 were marked off for store employees. The Gamestop in the Concord, CA mall had about 30-40 people waiting in line, while there were only 4 at EB games when I got there (around 9:15am). LOL. apparently they didn’t know EB and Gamestop were one in the same. So the EB line starts filling up. The managers come out, pass everyone a list of titles coming out within a year and tell us we can reserve them. He then tells us "I don’t know how many i can preorder, once i hit the quota, it is stopped from the home office.".. they let 2 people in at a time. when I got in I look at the little list im putting my name on, and see there are only 16 slots... good luck to the rest of the people in that line, i got out of there before there was a riot. Put my $100 down and $10 on 4 game reserves.
