Anonymous Targets Sony Over PS3 Hacking
by Nicholas Deleon on April 4, 2011
A congratulations are in order for Sony. Thanks to the company’s dogged pursuit of the likes of GeoHot and Graf_Chokolo (and, apparently, anyone who has seen jailbreak-related information), Anonymous has said that it will “experience [its] wrath.” Probably not a good time to be Sony, no.
In a letter posted to the group’s site, Anonymous says that Sony has “abused” the judicial system, and that it has “victimized” its own customers in order to suppress information. (Remember: this all stems from Sony’s removal of the ability to instal Linux on the PS3.) As a result of Sony’s misdeed it will now be “trampled on.”
Yikes.
Clearly we’re all familiar with Anonymous, a group that really came into its own during the Wikileaks situation, targeting companies that rolled over for The Man in connection with the organization.
Let’s see here… we’ve got hackers claiming that Sony will have to kill them before they’ll quit hacking, and now Anonymous promising to take action. Lots of fun, all around.

yeah blame Sony for wanting to protect their IP and publishers for not wanting the PS3 to be able to run pirated games......as for that GeoHot dude I am willing to bet he's glad he settled since he no longer has Sony's [insert approperiate word here] shoved so far up his rear end that he can taste it.....
As a PS3 user this really makes me mad because as long as the PSN is down, the system may not be able to play new BD-Rom disks if it cannot get authorised to do so.........
the blame for this crap lies right at the hacker's feet and nowhere else......

Netflix still works. Just need to dodge 2 or 3 "Sign On" prompts. After you clear those, you're good to go. Sucks though b/c Hulu+ doesn't work. No biggie, I just watch them on my Roku box, but still, was nice to do it all on one system. Hopefull PSN will be back soon...
Couldn't understand you. Next time take Sony's small wang out your mouth first.
Sony has been anti-everything but Sony since the beginning. They were releasing PSP updates once a week at one point. And for what, an extremely small percentage of people who pirated games? And told the homebrewers that physical property we owned wasn't really ours, we were just renting it.
If Sony was just going after the people who pirated games it would be one thing, but it's never been about that. Trying to get the information of people who simply viewed the jailbreaking info? Fuck Sony.

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

for any online purchase, ever?
unless you are saying there is a difference between credit and debit card's security?
my credit card doubles as my debit card.. i dont really see the risk of buying items/subscriptions with it. been the same account since '05.

(i.e. back when people used to be all paranoid about buying things online)

@ Sony...
Why would you ever give out a debit card number over the internet?!?!?
