Sony: PS3 News and Discussion Thread
from what i've read, there's a lot of speculation that the reason sony stopped with the PS2 backwards compatibility is that they will eventually move towards you buying and downloading PS2 games to be played on the PS3.
$350 250GB PS3 in November!
Sony officially confirms long-rumored high-capacity console will arrive pre-holidays; no word on North American bundles…yet.
Nearly two months after the 120GB PlayStation 3 Slim went on sale in North America, Sony has officially unveiled plans to release a higher-capacity version of the console domestically. Today, Sony Computer Entertainment America used the official PlayStation Blog to announce it is releasing the 250GB PS3 in North America on November 3 for a suggested retail price of $349.99.
The larger hard drive-equipped console was released in the UK and Europe on October 1st in a variety of bundles, including one containing the acclaimed PS3 exclusive Infamous. However, despite reports of an Uncharted 2 bundle bearing a North America-only ESRB rating label, so far SCEA has only announced plans for an a la carte version. Japan will be getting a limited-edition 250GB PS3 Slim packed in with Final Fantasy XIII in December.
Today's announcement will surprise few Sony-watchers, as the 250GB PS3 Slim was first revealed in August via a Federal Communications Commission filing. It will be the seventh hardware configuration of the console in the US, following the 120GB, 160GB, 80GB, 40GB, 20GB and 60GB models released since the platform's 2006 launch.

Yeah I def. need to get a Netflix account now. Or...in a month or so
. I REALLY hope this includes BluRays as well.
Also, good call on the Best Buy deal. I saw that the other day and thought about getting Uncharted 2, NBA 2K10, and Batman

Netflix for PlayStation 3 requires a disc, software solution coming late 2010
by Ross Miller posted Oct 26th 2009 at 7:34PM
It can't all be sweet, right? So Netflix is indeed coming to PlayStation 3, but there's a catch, and that is a disc (badly photoshopped into the picture above) will be required for use -- not just for a one-time install, but every time you want to stream. Joystiq shot some questions off to the company, who justified this as being "fastest and easiest way to let PS3 enthusiasts get Netflix on the PS3" and that an embedded software solution through XMB will be coming late next year. It denies this has anything to do with Microsoft's exclusivity agreement, but frankly we're a bit bummed by this perplexing hurdle in convenience. At any rate, be sure to go reserve your disc now if you want to start streaming -- assuming, of course, PlayOn hasn't already satisfied your Netflix needs.

IMO Sony needs to offer a broad variety of games on PSN. Not just a bunch of Greatest Hits PSOne games I can get on Amazon for like $8
Well what I'm saying is that everyone and their brother either has a copy of or has played Final Fantasy 7 (or SHOULD...) so why would they put that on PSN over say Xenogears? There's a ton of PSOne games that go for about $100 on ebay or amazon. And what about games like Radiant Silvergun which have gone for about $250 on ebay? Yeah RS was a Sega Saturn game, but still, you get my point..
Well it stinks that the disk is required every time to watch from netflix, BUT on that note i got confirmation from netflix that i will have the disk tomorrow for netflix viewing on PS3

i got the disc earlier today. the streamed movies look like crap on my plasma. the quality is worse than an HD cable tv movie feed. i actually would have cancelled my netflix subscription a long time ago except the "instant" feature kept me hooked and i still watch instant movies on my computers. the quality on my 24" 1080p lcd screen and laptop look good but we all know that computer and tv screens are different.
if any of you have a 360 as well.. i recommend using it for the netflix feature... pending your internet connection.. you can watch in high quality HD..
loading times are great and its smooth playing throughout the show/movie.
good to see ps3 stepping in that direction... my PS3 only friends we're pissed when netflix came to xbox...

Just convinced my sister to buy the new SLIM PS3. Its pretty neat. About the size of the normal sized PS2. I dont like that the eject and power on/off buttons are actually buttons. Unlike the normal PS3 where its touch sensitive. Star Trek on bluray on a 60" 1080p Plasma is beyond words.

I almost pulled the trigger on the 120GB. My launch PS3 crapped out this summer and I was looking to get the Slim.

Oh I'm SO keeping my PS3 now
