I bought my PS3 slim today for 299.99.
I bought it from Sonystyle.com with my newly applied Playstation VISA card. You get $100 instant credit if you buy a PS3, and then an additional $200 back if you spend 3,000 on the card within 6 months.
Should be no problem. I routinely spend 2-3k a month on my credit card. Free PS3!

lucky.
i got my 40 last june. hadn't had an issue with noise until about 3 months ago.
i've tried moving it to different spots and placed it vertically and horizontally. after 15 mins of gameplay or 30 mins of a movie, it sounds like a rocket.

yea. i know the 40gb is supposed to be the quiet one, and it was for about a year. the fan noise is a product of over heating, right? so i've been experimenting with different locations to place it.
i've read so many articles and posts on vertical vs. horizontal stance that i don't think it matters either way.
3.00 sucks. The worst part is you can't turn off that scrolling bar with the clock (at least I couldn't find where...it's not under Network like it was before, or in any of the Settings that I could see). The font is kind of big, too...maybe that was for the older crowd
, but I preferred the smaller font (and no boxes around my friend's names, no sparkles, etc.). I think the font issue can be solved with a bigger TV

Well, about that God of War I, and II, getting upscaled to 720p and coming for the PS3, I'll def get the PS3 Slim then!
I think they said it'll be available for the holiday season, right?
I was gonna wait for GoW III to come out next spring. Never got a chance to finish GoW II. So there's my chance....in all its 720p glory!

PS3's new 3D mode captured on video, coming in 2010 to all existing games
by Paul Miller posted Sep 4th 2009 at 7:47AM
You know what's absolutely useless? A video of Wipeout HD being played in 3D, with some schmuck wearing 3D glasses and babbling on about how much fun he's having. Well, that schmuck is this Engadget editor, the video can be found after the break, and we've gotta say: we loved it. Especially for something like Wipeout HD, whose neon-infused tracks make for an almost too convenient example of rapidly approaching vanishing points, we'd say 3D could really be a quasi-"killer app" for consoles going forward -- especially if those fancy new motion controllers don't catch on for Microsoft and Sony. In many ways, 3D just seems to make more sense in a video game than for a movie, and the whole problem of finding content to deliver in the format has already been solved: a software update for the PS3 sometime in 2010 will enable it to provide a 3D viewing experience to "all" existing games on the system. We're sure there will be some exceptions, but it sounds very promising. The console itself pumps out a quite regular signal over HDMI, which the TV syncs up with your 3D glasses. A 200Hz TV, for instance, alternates 1080p frames, with 100Hz for each eye. Of course, you'll need a brand new TV, but at least it won't be restricted to just Sony televisions. Start saving those pennies!

Read that Sony and Sega may be releasing a slew of PS2 and Dreamcast games:

I really hope it's true
I'd have to get a new Harddrive for my PS3 if it does turn out to be true...

PS3 slim audio question for BD
I currently have a Panasonic bd60 blu ray player in the living room and I will be movin this to my bedroom. I want to get a ps3 for the living room. My question is will there be any difference in audio. I will be using the optical out of the ps3 staight to my yamaha sound bar.
Any info will be much appreciated.

How did you have the Panasonic hooked up?
If you were using optical from that as well, then you shouldn't notice any difference. Its when you get into HDMI audio vs optical audio that you'll notice a difference. HDMI carries HD audio (DTS MA, DD-HD, high bitrate LPCM, etc) that optical just can't due to bandwidth limitations and HDCP limitations.

I don't like that it's not glossy. I don't like that I'd have to pay for it since mine works for now. I don't think it's worth it to switch. If you need more hard drive space just buy another drive.
my 40gb is pretty loud. but ever since i had the A/C fixed, it's been much quieter. (more quiet?)
but if i had the cash and a buyer for the 40gb, i wouldn't mind paying for the slim. i don't care that it's not glossy. and it is very quiet, i hear.

I have somone that wants to buy my 60gb.I do not play PS1 or PS2 games,so backwards compatability is not a problem. Do not care about it not being glossy.
Going to pick one up. Thanks for the feedback.

Hey guys - thinking of getting PS3 (currently have PS2) - I see all the demos and have read the reviews about Madden 10 or other games where they say the graphics are unbelivable...but is that only when played/displayed on HD TV's? I still have a SD (Sony XBR) TV - not sure when a Plasma or LCD will be purchased.
Will the PS3 games still look good or will it look like crap on a regular TV (my TV has a great picture, but it is not HD)
Just trying to set my expectations....
thanks

Haha I was gonna come in here and tell you not to do it, however if I was in your shoes I would, too. I hear people are willing to pay easily double the price of a new PS3 to get their hands on one with PS2 backward compatibility.
sorry for an ignorant question - I have been using the same PS2 for like 6 or 7 years...but what do you mean about downloading games? Are you saying I can download a PS2 game and play it on the PS3? I am looking to get my son a PS3 for Christmas, but the wife is giving me a hard time about the current PS2 games we have that cannot be played on the PS3.

The anticipation for the game is killing me.
Plus, it matches my tv and (eventually) my speakers, which is (will be) piano black.
