Sony: PS3 News and Discussion Thread
I thought the graphics for GT4 on the PS2 were amazing. GT5 on the PS3 looks tits but it's not a full on game where there are tons of cups to race in. Who knows when they'll ever release the whole game.
Yeah I d/led it. Plus I watched the video in the PSN about it. The photo thing is pretty cool. Unfortunately it looks like it only accesses video in the HDD, not in a USB drive. I have a 40GB so I'm saving space until I swap the drive. I don't watch Divx movies really so this FW didn't tickle my pickle too much.
You can access videos on a USB drive by going to videos, then your usb drive. Press Triangle and select display all.
Buy one of the older ones (used) that is backwards compatible. It's worth getting a used one in order to play the older MGS games, those were freaking awesome.
That's actually the last thing you want to do, the manual says you should use a vacuum instead because the compressed air could damage stuff.
A computer case is different because it's opened up and much larger in size, easier for dust to get out.

LOL great, i read this AFTER i empty a can into my PS3. I'm gonna vacuum it when I get home then
Yea maybe the duster would just blow the dust further in, instead of out another vent.
Yeah I usually have to turn the volume up when watching a movie cuz it's so loud.
BTW does anybody know what the BD utility thing is for? I went into it the other day and saw all these blu rays I've watched over the last couple like they had been saved to the hard drive or something. I got all giddy and then when I tried to select them it did nothing. So is it just to keep track of the blu rays you've watched?

my replacement PS3 gets kind of loud when gaming.
the 360 actually isnt that loud, its the damn DVD drive that is. I am so glad it has the option to install the entire game to the HD.

No idea. Already quiet. The BC ones are the loud ones as I have a 40GB.BTW, the chat room feature is pretty badass. Much faster contacting. Going in and out of the message box is a PITA. plus while in game you can see messages typed in the room if you have message notifications on.
I've got a 60 gig and I barely hear it at all. It was one of the last ones though after they discontinued the 20, the 80 was on the market, but before the 40. Its whisper quite. Way quieter than my roommates 6 month old 360.
^^ I may look into doing that... maybe not 320 gigs, but upgrading the harddrive. I only have two games, plus a few downloaded demos and whatnot, and it takes up like 1/4 of the space already..
I woulda bought the 160 gig but I didn't want that Drake's Fortune game.

PS3 Slim Photos Leaked
Rumors at this point, folks...Anyhoo, from IGN: http://gear.ign.com/articles/982/982957p1.html
Although Sony has categorically denied that a PlayStation 3 redesign, price drop, or reconfiguration would be in the future, rumors and "leaked details" keep popping up about PlayStation hardware revisions. This week's Sony hardware buzz comes in the form of new photos leaked to the internet by factory workers producing what looks to be a slimmed down variation of the console. The photos, which were first posted on a Japanese gaming blog, GameColumn, show components of a PlayStation 3 console with a much smaller overall clearance. Although the depth of the casing looks about the same, the comparatively shorter height of the device suggests a slim variation, similar to what we saw with PlayStation 2 Slim and the PSP Slim.
In theory, a PlayStation 3 Slim would fall into line with Sony's previous product trends, but this bout of "evidence" is highly suspect. For one, the device appears to feature a textured plastic finish, similar to the PS2, however, Sony's design trend with the PlayStation 3 and PSP product series has been focused on gloss or semi-gloss finishes. Additionally, the typeset on the device and packaging is oddly similar to that of the PS2-era, straying from the new PS3 font despite the fact that it is used in all of the console's branding and promotional materials since launch.
Still, the photos have caused quite a stir around the web. We'll just have to wait and see if Sony makes a move on the PS3 Slim.
