Thats what I was getting at.

You have a choice to buy if you WANT to. If you don't want to buy it, how is it doing you any harm?
Why should newer potential customers not have the latest and greatest just because owners of a previous version don't WANT to buy an updated version?

Just yesterday news circulated that they're going to be releasing an updated PS3 with a 65nm CELL processor this year. Shit, the current PS3's will be antiquated in contrast to their successors far sooner than the over a year old 360's.
I agree for the most part that the bulk of these changes shouldn't require a totally new console, particularly HDMI support, but in the case of the processor, what can ya do? Technology must advance, and it's not like you can easily swap your processor.
In the case of the HD, you won't have to buy a new console. Since it's external I'm sure the 120GB will replace the 20GB on store shelves. Existing owners will simply buy a new HD.
The only thing here that's frustrating is the need for a new console for HDMI support when it should be just an HDMI adapter. But for whatever reason, the HDMI adapter must be technically impossible, so I guess THIS solution is better than no solution.

If this does come out in june, this will be what I'll be getting. I'm glad I held out.

Hell, I pre-ordered Halo 3 November of last year and I don't have a 360 yet

Life is funny.
^^ hasn't costco changed or IS going to change their return policy ????
My best friend todl me they are changing their return policy at a certain date. That's why his family returned their tv, so that they could get the money back on it.

I wonder if long term console rentals are the wave of the future.

i'm not one to act like a moral police woman, but i really wish people wouldn't be so quick to take advantage of the few companies that still seem to care about their customers.
Most consoles add features and change form factor over their lifetime.
The PS2 added progressive scan, non memory card DVD playback and an enternet connection in newer models. They also changed the form factor with the slim design PS2.
The 65nm processor and GPU are solely for heat reduction (less cooling required and less hardware failures) and decreased production costs (due to higher yields per wafer).
A console will never increase the clockspeed of its components due to requirements for game compatibility. Either way, games are locked at a certain clockspeed, so a boost won't help any much like modded Xbox's or modded PSP's.
Overall, the only thing I'm excited for is the 120gb HD. My PS3 already takes up my TV's one HDMI connection, so my 360 uses the VGA connection.

but your TV probably won't support 1080p over component.
you'd have to set your Xbox to 720p output.

So not only is it getting a cooler chip, HDMI, and a bigger HD. They're also improving their already best-in-the-business hardware scaler to a new pure digital version called HANA.
With all the new horsepower there will be IPTV, DVR, and VOD functionality!
PS3 what?

it's the hi-speed dvd drive that makes noise. there's no plans to change the dvd drive.

HDMI has some benefits over VGA:
1.) Pure digital
2.) Can carry video AND audio
3.) Relatively thin wire & compact connector
4.) Most TV's have 2-4 HDMI inputs, whereas they have one VGA input.
5.) Receivers don't have VGA inputs, but many now have HDMI inputs.
But yeah, besides the digital aspect, it's really just convenience things that HDMI offers.
HOWEVER, I'm assuming this thing will use HDMI 1.3, since PS3 does, and since it's coming out in 2007 and most 2007 devices will sport HDMI 1.3.
That adds xvYCC color support, 10.2GBps of bandwidth, automatic audio syncing, and Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD support.
This puts HDMI a good bit ahead of VGA, but more importantly, it allows the Xbox to output the lossless audio formats available on HD-DVD's. Something it currently doesn't/can't do. Right now, all HD-DVD audio is converted to DD5.1 before being output by the Xbox, which sucks.

oh, also, the HDMI port means the Xbox gets High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection, which is ever more necessary if Microsoft wants to encourage studios to provide movie/tv/broadcast content for the Xbox.
I have question about Live gaming... if one person has a bad lag... does that effect everybody else in that match? I ask because I was playing Rainbow Six live earlier, and one guy had a lag... and the host kicked him out... (because of the "red" dot signaling poor connection).
I wasn't complaining about the fan... asloudasitgets was...

im sure it depends on the game though.

Even then, I bet the existing HD will provide a decent experience, provided you don't have it stuffed full of music and game demos. The IPTV programs will probably be in 480p, encoded with VC-1. They'll be incredibly lightweight in contrast to the MPEG-2 recordings stored by your standard DVR, and many standard def DVR's have 20-30GB HD's, some less.
