Microsoft: Xbox 360 news
does anyone know how the audio output works on the 360? does it support optical or digital coax out? Does the cable split off the component cables? My audio receiver isn't next to my TV input, so i will need the optical cable to stretch a few extra feet.

I think I'm getting a 360 pretty soon for my dorm. Have any of you guys tried hooking it up to your computer monitor? How hard would it be and what extras would I need to get.
Thanks in advance,
Christoph

for those of you that are... just now, getting the 360... you guys are lucky cause there are sooooo many awesome titles sold as "previously played" game for CHEAP! I just saw "Ghost Recon Advance Warfare" @ Game Stop for $30! (which is still one of my all time favorite)

but in searching the net I also found they are planning on releasing a 100GB hard drive.
How much space are you guys using up in your hard drives at the moment?
do you guys find you are downloading a lot of stuff or using it mostly to store game data?

I use the 360 hard drive primarily for demos and live arcade games. I have about 6gb of it free currently.

okay so I got one of these guys a week ago, and after some use, i have to say that I'm raelly impressed with the system. It has so much functionality, and it does it well. It multi-tasks (you can play music while you do everything), NBA 2k7 and GoW are games that I am really enjoying, the optical 5.1 is kick ass, Live Arcade is really fun and adds another dimension to the system, there are demos for EVERYTHING, High Def video downloads is a cool feature/option to have, and the wireless controllers work/feel great. Plus, i downloaded the zune software (reluctantly) and now I can stream vid, pics, and music from my comp. There are a few things that could use refining, but overall i'm really impressed.
This isn't to say that the ps3 doesn't do a lot of these things. It's just that the 360 does everthing well, and the games out are really getting good. Then again, this is over a year after launch, after several udpates and refinements.
Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised with the system.

I'm glad I waited until a few months ago to get a 360, b/c if I got one earlier, I would have hated it. And since I don't want to hate the PS3, I'm gonna wait on that too

playing GRAW-live.... you hear the other players walk behind and around you with the surround sound speakers
I've yet, to play the driving games... I assume you'd hear the cars passing by and going around you etc. etc...
I don't have Test Drive, but they have a used copy for sale at the local Blockbuster ($30), I might get it.
yeah in battlefield surround sound is great...you can tell where everyone is coming from by the sound of the motors...
and test drive is fantastic. I've been playing all day... graphics are stunning, and the gameplay is really fun. my only real complaint other than some annoying menu issues is that the online multiplayer aspect is not really there. maybe just not enough people have the game... there are about 150 races on the map where you are supposed to be able to compete with people online, but in about 10 hours of gameplay i've only found 3 people racing at any of them.

So when is microsoft coming out with a bigger hard drive? I'd like to watch a movie or two they have for dl in HD, but I can only fit 2 at a time on this '20' gb drive. Any way to get content off the 360 to store on an external drive?

guess we'll have to wait and see.
your other option, if you store music and other content on the drive, is to hook up a USB drive to the 360. you can't write to it from the 360, but at least you can put all your music and other content on it so it doesn't occupy space on the primary.

I think it's pretty cool... cause you can just save everything on your PC and not worry about running out of room...
okay, so I just saw a commercial for the DVD that's coming out this tuesday "Superman Returns" and it says that it'll be on HD-DVD AND Blu Ray... I thought the production companies were split down the middle... and had to choose a side, I didn't know they can put the movies out on both?

it's up to the studio to decide which they want to provide for.
unfortunately if they want to maximize sales they will need to provide for both until the format wars are over.

However, I only see the big budget movies doing this since they have the biggest backing from the studio.
