If you're gonna swap, do it right (skip to 1:40):

I just got news that my Mom is looking for S2000s.
It won't be such a drag going home after all .

And if you went boost, you are adding weight as well. Thats weight on the front wheels. The J, being a V6, ends up sitting further back in the engine bay compared to the F. There are plenty of high dollar F builds out there that put out some serious power, but for a regular over the counter kit, an NA J puts out just the same hp and more torque.
If you want to stay 4 cylinder with a high redline, swap in a K series. Its a better engine then the F *flamesuit on*.
As Ken said, it has no exhaust. Just straight pipes.
BTW - from what I heard, the J37 swapped HFP S2k was scrapped.

Better response to mods? True
Better engineering? um.. last time i checked there was no stock K that revs over 9k with 240hp, yah you can mod it to go over but that goes back to ^

-Iron sleeves (K) vs FRM sleeves (F)
-iVTEC (K) vs VTEC (F)
I will agree that the F is better engineered from the factory, however the downside is it does not take mods very well, unless boosted - but its volumetric efficiency is null and void in a boosted application . My K20Z3 (Si motor) has a cam (and stiffer valve springs), header and KPro. It put down ~250/170 at the wheels with a shit tune. It revs to 8k rpm. I didn't touch the bottom end. There are no oversized valves. There isn't any port work done to it.
A K20 longblock is also slightly lighter then the F20 longblock - but Ive seen conflicting reports on the F. The K longblock is around 280lbs, Ive seen the F20 longblock weights range from 290 to 335lbs.
Stock for stock, sure, the F may have an edge in power, but Id still rather go with the K since it has a higher ceiling.
And dont get me wrong, Im not bad mouthing the F series. I love that motor. But it does have its downsides.

Meh, if you're gonna swap with the S2000 might as well do the LS-series. If you're feeling like a baller, get an LS3.... bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, underdriven pulley) and a tune, you'll make close to 430 RWHP. And probably get close to or over 30 mpg on the freeway, with a very reliable setup.
I can't remember the exact figures but some guy did an LS1 + T56 swap in his AP1... I DO remember that after relocating the battery to the trunk, his car was lighter in the front. Also, the LS1 was closer to the firewall than the F20 was.

Yea, those are pretty sick swaps. You definitely need to upgrade the rear diff though. There is a company out of Texas that retrofits the Ford 8.8" IRS into the S2k.

I recently found a pristine set of SSR GT1 wheels in 18", with appropriate offset for an S2000 with stock suspension. I immediately bought. Now I have real (as opposed to replica) wheels, and very light wheels (19-20 pounds on all four corners), to put on my S2000 in the spring.
I have wanted a set of these since I bought my S four years ago, but they are no longer produced; sets in good shape are rare. Apologies for the lousy iPhone picture. The Rotas I have on now will be sold once the GT1s are installed in the spring. Can't wait!
