These results are the same as those the IIHS got when it tested an earlier Model 3 with radar, says David Aylor, manager of active safety testing at the IIHS. “The performance seems to be similar for both systems,” he told CR. The similar Tesla Model Y also uses a camera-based system but does not have a Top Safety Pick+ designation because it has yet to be tested, Aylor says.
So in other word, Camera is not any better than Radar.. the reason for the switch is...?

I posted a video earlier from the head of Tesla's autonomy division explaining why they got rid of radar, watch that video if you want to know the answer.

I can also say radar could also work better in the other other scenarios......
This will become a meaningless comparison If you dont wanna compare apple to apple and start comparing apple to oranges, then we can play that all day.

Would you pay $250/per car for radar plus the added complexity if you could make a system just as good without it that costs less?

If that is the case, then i agree it makes sense. But i dont think that is the case here.
Asking head of Tesla's autonomy division to explain why they got rid of radar is like asking the Kraken why she thinks Trump was a good President.

So that when Tesla sells 1 million vehicles, it has quarter billion in it's pocket, and it's competitors don't....
Makes perfect sense to me. It's not rocket science. LOL

In any case, like I said before, the Tesla Vision that my car had when I got it was pretty much on par with our Subaru's EyeSight system. It was pretty jerky and unsure of itself at times. Sometimes it would slam on the brakes randomly and well ahead of an object, other times it would sound the collision alarm when I was a LONG way from the car in front, etc. It admittedly wasn't very good and nowhere close to as good as the radar based system my VW had. The update mentioned above was pushed to my car last night so I haven't tried it yet but will report back on it hopefully today.
Source of info: Me, because I actually own one and drive it every day.

Yah u know when I won the lotto,i could go get a $3.5M Bugatti too...
I guess only Tesla fanboys would praise Telsa for not passing the savings to the customers in some ways (in MSRP or options) and then actually thank Elon musk for doing that. Cuz u know #logic

from what i have seen, the Tesla to their fanboys is more like a religion than a car company.

my friend is the one who was a bmw nut for the past 20+ but wanted to go EV and bimmer isn’t there yet. So his leases were up (m5 and x340m) and he went to Tesla for the time being. He is more like us but he likes the cars and acknowledges their where they are weak.

Well, both are needed to make this message board complete and entertaining at the same time. Being delusional is not necessarily a bad thing in this case.

Anyway, update on the updated vision software. It's definitely better than before. Less jerky and weird feeling for sure. That said, it still isn't the holy grail of self driving that I was led to believe by some on this forum. I, without a shadow of a doubt, would not trust this car drive itself based on my experience with it so far. I would end up dead or dismembered pretty fast. It's certainly good and more natural than before the update but it's not substantially better than our Subaru's self driving tech. It basically went from a freshly permitted 15 year old to a mildly experienced 18 year old in terms of driving skill. Just to note, this is experience using auto steer on highways and city streets that are marked. I do not have the FSD package and, based on my experience so far, I dodged a $10k bullet by not getting it. I have not yet tried it in rain, snow or any other adverse conditions yet but I certainly will when I get the chance. That'll be the real test.

Strange, I have the exact opposite experience though my views on the radar guided car was not in another Tesla so that's probably why.
Being delusional is most definitely a bad thing.

Some insights into why a Telsa didn't win Car & Driver's EV of the Year award. I was actually surprised they gave it to the Mach E given Tesla's charging network and infotainment and MPGe advantages, not to mention more comfortable seats and overall futuristic look and feel.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/07/succe...h-e/index.html
The Teslas in the competition -- a Model S, a Model 3 and a Model Y -- were hampered by quality problems.
At one point, the cruise control system on the Tesla Model Y abruptly stopped working with no warning, said Sharon Silke Carty, Car and Driver's editor-in-chief, in an interview with CNN Business.
"All of a sudden I was going 30 in the middle of the highway," she said.
The touchscreen system, which is critical because it operates most of the Tesla's controls, stopped working not long after the car arrived for testing, the review said. Car and Driver also noted poor fits between parts and a "grating squeak" from the rear seat.
The Model 3 had a large gap around the hood, Car and Driver noted. Another Tesla they tested, the Model S, only had 3,600 miles on it but its front motor failed. It was repaired and the car continued the tests, but the incident ended its chance of winning the award, Car and Driver said. The Tesla Model X SUV was not included in the tests because of its low sales, according to the publication.

Whats up with RDX owners?

This is an outrage. We've got to find out how much money Ford pays C&D for advertising.
