Buick new Models have short term charm just like Hyundai. TL is most solidly built for long term.
3 year old Honda Accord is selling better than Hyundai Sonata. Sonata is Hyundia last chance for next 5 years and they lost it.

Honda Canada has good sales month now within a 1000 of Toyota. Similar in China Honda is now within few thousands of Toyota. Honda brand is going up despite not introducing mass scale Hybrids like Toyota.
In US gap is now 40%. it used to be 100%. Toyota has trucks/Scion/hybrids. (Scion what they were thinking for separat badge)
Successfull next Civic/CRV/RDX Toyota is finished.

BMW wheel gap is less than Honda. Long wheel gap makes Honda car look like 4x4. Aesthetics on Honda is terrible. Jurassic era 5speed autotrans detrimental to performance. Not too long ago Honda was still using 4 speed AT originating from BC. honda will never match saab Airbag Design, How Do They think They can compete with Ferrari with too few spokes on their wheel designs?

Nov. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp.’s Lexus, buoyed by consumer discounts, beat out Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG’s BMW brand in October to lead monthly U.S. luxury-auto sales for the 1st time since May.
Lexus sales rose 8.1% to 21,091 vehicles, the Toyota City, Japan-based automaker said yesterday in a statement. On Nov. 2, BMW reported a 17% gain to 19,272 and Mercedes posted an increase of less than 1% to 18,351.
Lexus, the top-selling U.S. luxury brand since 2000, is being challenged this year as Toyota copes with record recalls and as Mercedes and BMW benefit from new models. Lexus more than doubled average incentive spending in October to $2,152 a vehicle from $923 a year earlier, according to TrueCar.com, an auto pricing website.
The Toyota unit has been “much more aggressive than they’ve ever been,” Jim O’Donnell, president of BMW’s North American unit, said in a telephone interview. “We’ve now got Lexus joining the fray where they’ve always stood on the sideline and sort of watched.”
U.S. sales for this year through October totaled 183,529 for Lexus, 178,080 for Mercedes and 176,736 for Munich-based BMW, the global leader in luxury-vehicle deliveries.
The totals don’t include non-luxury models such as BMW’s Mini cars or Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler’s Smart cars and Sprinter vans.
Toyota’s incentive spending and increased advertising in October helped boost Lexus sales, Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry trends at Santa Monica, California-based TrueCar, said in a telephone interview yesterday.
‘Photo Finish’
“They clearly want that No. 1 spot for the year,” he said. “Don’t know if that necessarily is going to happen. Looking at the historical sales in December, Benz tends to do quite well. I think it’s going to be a photo finish.”
The Toyota unit used “moderate incentives” to help trim inventory, Mark Templin, U.S. group vice president for Lexus, said on a conference call yesterday.
The automaker enhanced incentives on 2010 models in particular in anticipation of higher volume than actually occurred, he said. As a result, “I think we’ll carry out our 2010 incentives for remainder of the year,” Templin said.
Mercedes has been helped this year by a 53% jump in sales of its redesigned E-Class, introduced in 2009. The Daimler unit boosted average incentive spending 9.4% in October to $4,389, according to TrueCar.
“They are coming out with a lot of attractive lease deals,” Toprak said.
‘Be Competitive’
Mercedes isn’t planning to increase incentive spending at the end of the year, Michael Slagter, vice president of sales for the brand’s U.S. unit, said in an interview.
“We’ll be competitive and do what we need to do to be competitive in the market,” he said.
BMW’s October gains were held back by lack of inventory of the new X3 sport-utility vehicle, which is reaching showrooms late this year, O’Donnell said in the Nov. 2 interview. Sales of the redesigned 5 Series rose 62 percent to 4,925, helped by the arrival of the sedan’s all-wheel-drive version that makes it more competitive with the Mercedes E-Class, he said.
The 5 Series still has room for sales growth, Jessica Caldwell, an analyst at auto-information website Edmunds.com in Santa Monica, said in a telephone interview. “It’s probably going to take a little bit more time to catch on.”
BMW’s average incentive spending fell 34% in October to $3,179, TrueCar said.
Cadillac, Lincoln
Sales for General Motors Co.’s Cadillac luxury division rose 15% to 13,393 last month, as the redesigned SRX sport-utility vehicle gained 27%. Cadillac cut average incentives 12% to $4,896, according to TrueCar.
“More than half of SRX buyers came from non-GM vehicles,” said Don Johnson, Detroit-based GM’s vice president for U.S. sales. Cadillac has increased sales for nine months in a row and “continues to be the industry’s fastest-growing luxury brand,” he said.
The GM unit’s deliveries gained 40% this year through October.
Ford Motor Co. sold 6,834 Lincoln luxury vehicles in October, a 1.5% increase from a year earlier, according to a statement from the Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker. Sales of Lincoln’s Town Car more than doubled to 988. The brand’s incentive spending rose 14% to an average $4,797, according to TrueCar.
Honda Motor Co., based in Tokyo, said sales for its Acura brand rose 13% to 11,011 last month.
U.S. deliveries of Wolfsburg, Germany-based Volkswagen AG’s Audi brand were up 10% to 8,128 vehicles. Stuttgart-based Porsche SE, which is merging with Volkswagen, reported that sales increased 61% to 2,647.
Tata Motors Ltd. posted gains of 47% to 1,295 vehicles for the Mumbai-based company’s Jaguar brand and 37% to 2,958 for Land Rover.

so there will next Sonata within 5 years. Sonata sales is stagnating near Altima level. Considering Maxima, QX, M.
Nissan higher priced products are moving much better than Hyundi.
Next Sentra/Altima will be the one to watch.
Infiniti has just lunched M diesel in EU. I dont think Hyundia-Kia is going to be bigger than Renault-Nissan.

Next Sentra/Altima will be the one to watch.
Infiniti has just lunched M diesel in EU. I dont think Hyundia-Kia is going to be bigger than Renault-Nissan.

Sonata sales numbers are without turbo/hybrid. turbo is on sales since middle of october, but many dealers don't even have them yet. hybrids aren't on sales yet.
hyundai's problem is that they don't have enough plants to outsell camry/accord yet. they just can't make sonatas fast enough. Sonata will not be the best seller unless hyundai figures out how to make 300k+ sonata a year.
anyway Kia only sold 1600 optimas last month. I'm sure the new 2011 Optima will sell for 6000+. maybe more. New Optima will help Kia to sell over 40k a month by middle of next year or so.

2011 Sonata is now on sale for almost 10months. with production started last december. I dont believe for a second that production is issue.
Hybrid/turbo will not make iota of difference. Hybrid is simply expensive and people looking for performance/handling will look for some thing else.
Optima will only cannabalize Sonata sales. just like G25 didnot boost G series sales.
Next year VW US made mid size is also coming. so it is extremely difficult to increase sales of one brand. I would say there will be big impact of New Civic.
I see more prospect for Nissan than Hyundai. Nissan sales are still very good despite not so successful Sentra/Altima.

Production has been the issue. Bama plant has been working overtime ever since March i believe. my ball park number is around 2000-2500 for turbo, and 1500 for hybrid. that's good enough to contend for #2 spot.
and Optima will basically compete with all major midsize sedan that includes sonata. if it eats Sonata, then it will eat Accord/camry as well.
i don't see Sonata becoming #1 overall anytime soon. Although Optima is the best looking midsize IMO, it won't even be top 5 in sales. in this segment, reputation is far more important than design. but optima will not be like legacy or mazda6.
but i can see Hyundai/kia outselling Honda/acura by end of next year.

Honda has much robust pipeline coming up in next 12 to 24 months. from new smaller Acura to hybrids and new CRV/RDX. there will be big boost in Honda.
If Acura creates V6/6AT RDX. this will become among the top selling luxury SUV. combining SH-AWD/V6 refinement wtih fuel economy/performanc of 6AT. People willing to pay more upscale SUVs.

Production has indeed been the issue. HMMA has a monthly capacity of 25,000 units and with Sonata demand at or over 20,000 and Santa Fe demand upwards of 7,000, they had to cut Santa Fe production as a result. Now that Santa Fe assembly has been moved to Kia's West Point plant in Georgia, they can make enough of each.

Honda Fit/Insight/CRZ/Civic are all priced higher than Elantra.
Genesis has $1500 coupon. Genesis price is falling towards TSX and TSX 2011 hasnt been lunched yet

I think why you see so many Hyundais in Korea is because.... well, isn't there a big tariff on any car that gets imported/not Korean? It only makes sense to buy a car that is just as good, almost as good or better or whatever if its like 2/3 the price. It's not that cut and dry, but yeah.
I know that in Australia, the Holden Commodore SS (aka G8 GT, both were built in Australia) starts around $45,000 AUD. But a 325i starts at around $75,000 AUD. It might have been even more. My relatives from Australia just about dropped their jaws when they saw how cheap BMWs and MBs were over here. They joked about buying one then exporting it overseas when they left. Pretty sure that's a BIG reason why Holdens are so popular over in Australia.
My
why Chrysler/Ford/GM has become pretty stagnant over the decades. Unions had a death grip on the Big 3's collective and proverbial nutsacks, so they were just forced to really cut down on costs and you see that in the form of the product passed down to the consumer. Over the decades unions just tightened their grip, imposing more and more of their will on them, just like a parasite.
We should just consider ourselves fortunate. Unfortunately that has been killing off everything that's made in the USA (seriously, what is anymore?) but that's another story.
