Yeah, they fixed the rear of the coupe vs the 8th gen, but then they had to add this. Maybe it's the angle, but it looks like a big hole with a reflector inside it.

Honda: Accord News-dctgf.jpg

All in all, both the sedan and coupe seem to have a safe design that will sell. I want to see the coupe from the side though... the current 8th gen looks nose heavy (sticks out too much... overhang?) to me from the side.

Ford Fusion design still wins, IMO.

Honda should have made the fog light area of the coupe similar to that of the sedan. Looks cheap on the coupe.

Some Hyundai Genesis resemblance?

As a previous 8th gen owner. I'm unimpressed with the coupe. They F'd it up in my opinion. The sedan however is a MUCH better design then the 8th gen and will sell extremely well. I will be going to test drive that earth dreams 3.5 with the 6MT to see how it compares to my old 8th gen

For the sedan, its not offensive and I actually kinda like it. I'm more interested in what the engine/transmission combos there, how much it weighs, and whether a 'sporty' version will both look and act the part. I doubt it, but hope is hope.

The ILX was such a letdown in that regard.

Yes the Sedan rear scream Genesis, but that's not entirely a bad thing at all.

I don't dig the reflector on the rear of the coupe, but no big deal I don't plan buying either one lol.

Man Honda is staying conservative in its design. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I guess. It'll sell like hotcakes though.

I'll reserve judgement until I see it in person, that rear trunk kick on the sedan may prove interesting, but at least in these prelim pics, the Fusion is still the design to beat.

It seems like a lot of people are under the impression that the V6 will have 310+ hp based on what Honda has said about the new ED V6. I honestly don't think it will be anything close to that in Accord trim and would honestly be overkill in a FWD car. Considering the car is supposed to weigh less than the current model and offer a 6sp auto also, I think anything more than 280 hp would be overkill.

A detuned-for-fuel-economy ED V6 with approximately 275-280 hp getting over 30 mpg would be a bigger winner in my book.

The sedan actually looks pretty good for a change. But the only thing I like about the coupe is the tail lights and the trunk. That's it.

But the new Mazda 6 looks wayyyyy better from what I've seen so far.

I thought it was pulling some RL cues in the rear. Then again, I think the Genesis looks a lot like the current RL so maybe thats why? Maybe after all these years, nothing is really new anymore so they all start looking alike....

I like the new coupe more than the old coupe. I also like the new coupe more than the new sedan. Opinions here seemed quite divided regarding the styling though.

I think the sedan looks a bit conservative but that's not really surprising.

I'm more interested in seeing the powertrains and the interior.

Lightbulb LEDs

Honda has started unveiling the redesigned 2013 Accord sedan and coupe, the company’s duo of mid-size moneymakers, by releasing two photos of each and a skosh of info. We already know a fair amount about what to expect from the new Accord—including details on its conventional engines, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, and infotainment technology—much of which we summarized when we spied both the coupe and sedan.

As for the new photos, you probably howled the same thing we did when you saw them: “They look the same!” Still, that’s hardly a surprise—the concept that dropped at this year’s Detroit auto show resembled a slightly tarted-up contemporary Accord coupe and the aforementioned spy shots revealed that the general shape of both the 2- and 4-door would carry over.

At least the new Accord eschews most of the current model’s clumsier detailing, including the sedan’s bustle tail and bulging lamps. A more upright grille and a hood with a slight bulge lend the front end a more purposeful look, while the sides are slightly more sculpted. Out back, the sedan’s taillights now extend to the trunklid, making the Accord’s hindquarters look wider and lower. Just as the outgoing coupe was easier on the eyes than the sedan, so is the new 1. Although its front-end now more closely mimics the sedan’s, the rear styling remains quite a bit different. The new coupe’s taillights are slimmer than before, and work in concert with reflectors set wide in the bumper to perform an optical widening trick.

The headlights on both Accord variants are sleeker and a strip of LED daytime running lights will be available on more posh models, which also can be fitted with full-LED exterior lighting. (The rear view also shows that Honda will adopt the Touring name; it currently uses that badge on its top-spec Odyssey and Pilot models.) It’s worth mentioning that LED headlights aren’t currently available in the mid-size-sedan segment; the tech still is largely the province of luxury cars.

Honda did not release any hard figures along with these images, but claims the new Accord has more interior and trunk space than before despite being shorter in overall length. The company also says the car will be “sportier.” Ignoring its visual similarity to the current one—altered dimensions or no, the resemblance is so strong that it’s hard to call the new look even evolutionary—we’re keen to find out if Big H speaks the truth. Only the 4-cylinder version of the once all-conquering Accord made our 2012 10Best Cars roster, and it’s suffered losses in recent comparison tests.

We’ll drive the new Accord—and probably see its interior, too!—in the near future, so watch this space for our impressions.

Is it even clear if the V6 will be a new ED engine? All that was stated was re-engineered, that may not mean ED. I think the same lingo was used for the new RDX's debut.

The rear is more Genesis influence. with Accord cross tour front.

It lacks the muscular fenders of Euro Accord and square angles of Euro Accord. It cannot become a Global Accord.

They need Toyota Premio design rear.

I guess that means the 9th gen Accord won't be competing with the TSX for "the most aerodynamic car in the world" title then. The TSX is safe.

I think the sedan looks better all around. Grille, headlights, fog lights, the rear as a whole.... even the equipped wheels in the photos.

Definitely blows away the Camry.

^ they knew they need to play it safe not boring so much or else.. after a few disappointments, I'm happy they're headed back in the right direction or at least pointed that way. The CR-V looks like a winner too.

The Koreans are now serious competitors, the new Camry is what it will always be; a best seller, the Altima aint playing games and Ford and Chevy are always nipping at everyone's heels.

Even the little ILX cant compete with TSX. This Accord will be faster off the line but 80-120mph sprint it will lose to TSX.
see the 0-120mph number. 5 second difference despite on 215/45 tires. Civic SI saved by its summer performancce tires.
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ed-test-review
that is 2009 TSX which less aerodynamic than 2011.

In all seriousness this segment its better to play it a ltl safe. But honda was able to play it safe and make a much better looking sedan (although still not great, last gen was just that bad) and IMO a slightly better coupe.

The sedan looks more upscale for some reason to me.
And look in this segment. The passat, very simple but somehow it looks business like. The camry well to me just doesnt look good. The sonata well at first it looked amazing cause someone didnt go with the boring look, but now when i see it in person, I dont like it. The Optima, looks great. The fusion should look great. Anything left? I havent seen the new mazda 6 but the old ones, wasnt a fan.

Point is, this segment doesnt really have much breakthrough styling so I say the new sedan fairs well with the competition beating roughly half in terms of styling, according to my opinion. This is all subjective stuff in the end.

Lest we forget.... has the Accord ever been groundbreaking in terms of design? They've usually trailed the Camry in terms of design... '92 Camry compared to '90 vs. '94 Accord, same generation of Accord had half-assed powerplant options.

The last relatively "bold" looking Accord was the 6G Coupe (98-02) other than that, when has the Accord looked aggressive?!

This Accord sedan looks much better than the Camry. Looks are subjective, but if you say otherwise I'll think you're on crack. Either way, the vanilla method seems to work because these cars are segment leaders for a reason.

You're right. The formula has worked for so many years. Many (perhaps most) of the 2013s will be sold on the fact that they got the "new" Accord (based on reputation and high expectations, regardless of design). It becomes mainstream on the road. Reliability and quality continue. Resale remains high. Therefore leases and purchase financing remain low.

And the beat goes on...

I see it more as a mixture of the 5th ('94 - '97) and 6th generation ('98 - '02) Accords along with other sedans in the segment.

Different dimensions, completely new engines, completely new interior, new technologies, different suspension. Sounds like a significant redesign to me.
