Yea, hes already worked out a deal on a '12 EX-L V6 w/nav for $25.7 OTD. He just hasnt pulled the trigger since he says the car feels big and doesnt handle as well as it should. He said he can feel the weight in corners and its a turn off.

The guy is in his late 50s/early 60s and owns a 94 or 95 Accord and an 07 Accord sedan.

Hes really leaning towards the Maxima, but hes hesitant to go through with it.

Is it just me or is that a smart key on the center console?

You can easily get $4K-$4.5K off MSRP right now and even more on the top of the line EX-L V6 navi trim.

Plus, I wouldn't want to deal with 1st year model bugs. Personally, I'd want to wait at least until the 3rd year of the new model.

NOT a fan of the new interior at all. That IP looks way overstyled, the spokes on the steering wheel are huge, and the shifter's position reminds me of an Odyssey. Is it going to be way up there on the MT as well, EP3 style? I hope it's a little different in the MT, and it may have to be to accomodate a hand-brake. These are impossible to ignore too, since they're all involved with driving. I do like the two screens and space behind the cupholders, though. And the centre console as a whole is much cleaner than the 8th gen. Honda listened when it came to the button-overload complaint.

I'm biased, but the 7G still holds the best interior in my book.

Morgan, have you suggested maybe a few handling mods if your coworker was interested? He could get new swaybars and different tires which would likely make a pretty big difference.

That's the caveat of getting the V6 over the 4 cyl (which is what I have). I've found that my K24Z3 powered 12 Accord sedan seems to be more nimble than the two or three V6 sedans that I've driven. I guess what it lacks in power, it makes up for in handling...and vice versa with the V6.

My brother and my mother have 2008 V6s, which is the first model year for the 8th gen. No issues. My brother used to have an 03 Accord EX I4 as well, first model year for the 7th gen. Again, no issues.

Now, the 9th gen will have an all new engine or two (it still isnt clear if the V6 is going to be an updated J), so how reliable the engines are remains to be seen.

Hes not into modifying. His 200k+ mile 5th gen is bone stock and going strong, aside from the a/c. He just wants a nice, well appointed sedan to reward himself since he's nearing retirement.

Who's talking about the Euro Accord (TSX)?

We're talking about the USDM Accord.

And yes, while the inside of the new USDM Accord looks nicer, it's going to be around the same level of the new Ford Fusion Titanium and the Optima SLX.

my moms had problems. The brakes, although there has been a tsb for that now. But it still ate through so many brake pads in the beginning before the fix.
She already had her alternator replaced, the power seat had to be fixed i believe. Something with the power steering too.

Dont compare 4 cylinder unrefined junk with next generation V6 Honda. I am not even going into aerodynamice refinement. Optima Cd is worse than RDX let alone new Honda Accord.

The co-efficents of drag of a car and a compact SUV cannot be compared.

Sir, you are quite obtuse.

Just for kicks

Code:
2012 Optima Sedan | .29
2012 Optima Hybrid | .26
2012 Accord Coupe | .33
2012 Accord Sedan | .31
2013 Altima Sedan | .29 :tomato:
I won't even think about addressing your bunny trail on the RDX... Once the numbers come out on the Accord (if Honda releases them) on the 20th you really have nothing to go off of with the Sedan claim.

Your data is unreliable. Infact Honda Accord coupe Pre-MMC is the fastest in all comparision tests that has partcipated.

Now 2011-2012 MMC has delivered alot of improvement. No one has tested it yet. but Autoweek has done Optima SX and Accord Coupe mulitple driver fuel economic.

Guess who is beating EPA by a margin. Accord coupe V6 has wider and heavier tires.

Optima SX has extremely poor 0-100mph and fuel economic on MotorTrend.

He just keeps plowing right ahead. No matter what data is presented. He just ignores and keeps on going. Its actually kinda funny.

Makes me run AWAY from honduh/ack. The brand is now repellant to me, considering the fanboy quotient here.

It's all good.

Perhaps he'll flip back to Audi or BMW as his blatant fanboisim progresses.

All I can say is I'm pushed far away from the Honda/Ack camp... and personally don't plan on turning in my ICE motors until they pry them from my cold dead fingers.

At the end of the day the Accord is a nose heavy FWD sedan / coupe marketed to compete with FWD sedan's within the same class. Seeing as I don't plan on buying FWD, nor do I particularity care for the "hybridization" hypnosis taking over Honda I can sit back and watch. I'll enjoy hooning my RWD... while others can mindlessly travel down the path of life not really knowing what 400hp is, and how intoxicating it feels to be "pushed" through a corner rather then "pulled".

Alright.... back on topic with this thread. A number of manufactures are introducing LED based projective as a cost alternative to HID projectors (and their lesser halogen counterpart). The thought is that the LED's should theoretically last the life of the car.

Below is a graphic from the Lexus system used in the LS600h.

It should be interesting to see what Honda is playing with here... But the undisputed output champion is still the projector based HID.

Sorry, but your data is unreliable. Infact Honda Accord has less cargo capacity.

Guess who is beating cargo capacity by a margin. No one has tested it, but Ford Expedition has more than double the cargo space of Accord and almost double in fuel capacity.

Seawise Giant world's largest oil tanker has more capacity than Honda Accord. Can swallow thousands of Honda Accords if want to like Godzilla. Accord would be part of Giant's diet before she was scrapped.

Emma Maersk world's largest container ship has more capacity than Honda Accord.

Accord is flawed design, cannot float like ship and much greater range than Accord. No inferior side mirrors either, cameras used instead. Accord limited to land travel, inefficient for transatlantic journey. A/C vent is above navigation on Maersk too much better GPS.

Accord would sink in 0-20 knot race.

That depends on the projector & lens used. Same goes for LED headlights, they all have different outputs.

And LEDs are not a cost alternative. Hyundai on the other hand

True, I guess each application will have to be closely watched as the OE's integrate this new technology.

According to one person I spoke to... the sedan V6 will have an optional 6 speed MANUAL transmission. Very nice.

No word on which trim level (EX only? Touring only?)
