THey tried to mix it up a little bit with the current generation accord.
Seems like they were trying to make Vanilla into vanilla/chocolate swirl...they just forgot to add the chocolate before swirling.
Hopefully they get the recipe right with the next generation.

I totally don't get it. The new Camry has some weird spots, like the bubble-out taillamps and the bulbous nose, but it's a decent design and looks a hell of a lot better than the outgoing model. I don't find it ugly at all, don't know why there is such an extreme negative reaction to it from you guys.

2008 Honda Accord: Facing tougher competition
By Todd Lassa
With Toyota's new Camry picking up sales from disenchanted sport/utility buyers, and increased competition from an updated Nissan Altima, all-new Saturn Aura, and Kia Optima, the next Accord is an especially critical car for Honda.
Styling of the 2008 model due late next year will have some of the new Civic design philosophy, with a wide stance, large wheels, and clean, flowing styling. The car is said to be larger overall than the current model and, unlike Camry, the range will include a new coupe.
A new Accord hybrid is another question, as the current version isn't selling as well as full-hybrid-powered cars like the Camry (and it'll have competition from Altima and Aura hybrids in 2007). But Honda recently announced it would bring a new fuel-efficient "clean diesel" to the United States by 2009.
Based on the current Euro-market 2.2-liter turbodiesel four, it'll eschew the emerging urea-injection technology in favor of a twin-layer catalyst that converts nitrogen oxide diesel emissions into ammonia and then into simple nitrogen gas. Honda says it complies with emissions standards in all 50 states.

I assume some sort of prototype should come out during the spring car show circuit - the 08 Accord will probably go into production during the summer MY change over. Most of the details must have been worked out by now.
What are the chances Honda goes against the trend and dumps hybrid in favor of diesel?

That looks great.
But I remember MT showing a bueatiful looking sketch for the cuurent gen back in 02. As we know, the final product looked absolutely nothing like the sketch. Hopefully Honda doesn't screw this one up.

^ Good question ... diesel > hybrid in North America? 50-state compliant? Honda has been a good innovator in making efficient, "green" engines ... I wonder what their global strategy is on this one. If they mess up, that could cost them marketshare ... bigtime.
I would like to see a prototype Accord some time this spring ... Chicago or NY Autoshows, maybe? They would certainly surprise me if they brought it out in Detroit. Which makes me wonder ... what is Honda/Acura going to display this year in Detroit???

Looks way better than the current gen US Accord, although I've seen the shape of those doors from somewhere, yeah it looks like the TSX doors. Maybe they'll adopt more styling cues of the JDM/Euro Accord/TSX for the 8th gen US Accord.
The pinnacle of the best Accord generation in terms of styling were the 98-02 (6th gen) ones when both the sedan and coupe looked cool (imo).

Besides, this one has an Acura-grille...if it's accurate, what is Honda doing? Thought they were trying to differentiate the two brands.

Granted it's only a sketch...but it's a very conservative design.
Granted the mid-size sedan market tends to be vanilla and conservative...but with increased competition Honda has to do more to bring the Accord to the forefront in an increasingly more crowded segment.

so Acura looks like Honda again... why Honda keeps stepping on itself? Didn't they say that Acura will differential itself from Honda?
I was told many time "nice Honda Accord you got there", and I was like "It is an Acura CL Type-S".

Lets keep in mind that this is a Motor Trend skecth. Not a sketch provided by Honda. MT obvioulsy got the idea from the sports 4 concept but Honda may be going in an entirely different direction with the next NA Accord.

Are you guys saying if Honda doesn't do well on working on a great 8th gen Accord are they screwed or will be beat by the Camry and new Altima?
Btw, I saw the new redesigned Altima on the road, looks hot!
