another air bag question

This may be a stupid question but I am going to ask it anyway. One of you pointed me in the right direction to see that the front driver and passenger have the side curtian airbags, but do any of you know about the rear passengers?

the tsx has rear side curtain airbags, so it's fair to assume the TL will as well

Guys- Regardng your discusson of competing Luxury brands, I think the thing to consder here is that all of these manufacturers have created their own niche segment that are marketing their models after. BMW/AUDI = Sports Performance luxury cars (They have racing teams to validate their claims as a performance vehicle (German engineering). MB has a racing team (AMG engines) & has been successful in cross transitioning their vehicles as first and foremost 'Luxury' cars that also #2 - are Performance vehicles. Lexus has succeeded at their goal in creating a luxury brand that does not boast about its car's performance. Quick Question do you buy a Lexus for Performance or luxury? That answers that question.

Lexus & Toyota on some models do appear to be very similar but what has been good for them is that they target their most upscaled verison of a Toyota model & take it to the next level when rebranded as a Lexus. Acura's big mistake (as others have indicated) was that it did not remain aggressive in marketing their models in the Luxury category in the early '90's. Acura's positioning as an affordable luxury car needs to be changed. What Acura needs to do with the launch of the new TL is create a "Re-Image" for themselves, based on the new direction of the co. (RSX, TSX, TL & upcoming new RL models). How about something like "We've taken the Sports Luxury vehicle to a higher level".

And speaking of "Sports Luxury".....d-rock, I like your idea about buiding a new ultra luxury vehicle to comepete against S-class,7-series and A8, how does the model brand name of "SL" sound to you? It works for me!

the "SL" name has came to mind but would it been ok to use it since the top benz is called "SL" though i know both acura and benz the "CL" name. another name that came to mind was "GL- Grand Luxury" or "UL= Ultra Luxury"

how about Acura HL = High Luxury...or just the Acura L = Luxury

Lineup could be like this:
Acura RSX - 22000-26000
Acura TSX - 27000-29000
Acura RDX - 30000-34000
Acura TL - 32000-38000
Acura TL Coupe - 34000-40000
Acura MDX - 36000-42000
Acura RL - 46000-52000
Acura HL - 60000-70000
Acura NSX - 90000

I personally like the name "QL". It doesn't have to stand for anything...but I just like it. Maybe like "Q-ship Luxury"

Maybe Acura could just make a long-wheelbase RL instead of giving us an entirely new model.

As for the whole Acura lineup idea--I say take off the RSX and everything would be great. I don't think that car belongs in the Acura lineup, as much as we like it there. Sure, it's cool to have an affordable car with a premium name...but let's give it to Honda. Honda could then can the oh-so popular Civic Si and call the RSX the Honda Integra. Whaddya think?

I think this would be ideal....then Honda can send over a small convertible based on the S2000 - the CLX

I agree. The RSX needs to go. With the G20 gone, Infiniti finally is beginning to be taken seriously. I suppose the G35 has helped in that step also...

The new TL is hot. It looks like a beefed up TSX! The two have very similiar stylings.

ugh, I really don't like Acura's light colored interiors. The upper-portion of the dash looks horrible in black. It cheapens the look BIG time. I hated that about the TSX and now the new TL has it.

I think a car more luxurious than the RL is pure utopia since it would be out of Honda's plans/budget. Keep in mind the current generation RL dates back from 1996 and the new version scheduled to be released in mid-2004 for 2005 should be a much better/improved car. With the new 2004 Acura TL being that nice (I prefer that one over the new BMW 5-series), it is pretty clear Honda will build an outstanding next-gen RL. Honda has felt a huge pressure in Europe from its competitors so it wants to aim its Honda Legend (or Acura RL in the U.S.) more towards the Audi A8. Rumors say it will use an all-aluminum body and may come with all-wheel-drive, besides the possibility of an all-new Honda V8 engine (probably 2 years after the car is released into the market).

The RSX should go, and they should bring up the S2k to the Acura level, much more in line with the 'luxo' image. my $ .2

And as for the lineup itself:

TSX -- 30-40k (Rename: Integra)
TL (and coupe) -- 40-50k (Rename: Vigor)
S2000 -- 30ish (Keep)
Small Sportute -- 35k (Whatever)
RL (and coupe) -- 60-70k (Rename: Legend)
MDX -- 35-45k (Whatever)
NSX -- 90k (Keep)

I just think Acura fucked up big time when they went with the alphanumeric names.

it is so fucking hot...the interior is pure gangsta

the only part about it I dislike, is the horrid looking e brake handle that is in both the 6spd, and the auto TL's...

What about TL weight and perhaps drag coefficient - I'm 100% sure this numbers already known and ready to be released

At least can someone tell how much heavier new TL will be comparing to current TL-S?

Since TL based on a same global platform as current N/A Accord / JDM Inspire and TSX we can pretty much can say that to expect from suspension and transmissions (my guess TL will have the same 5A as current JDM Inspire and 6M remains the same as current CL-S) so the real question how much changes new body is comparing to old one.

A $30-40K TSX?? A $40-$50K TL You're talking Canadian $, right?!!!

I really see no use for a $35K Small SUV badged as an Acura. Who really wants an Acura CR-V? Or an RSX sport-utility equivalent? I think the MDX fits in just fine. But, the money is in SUVs, so they'll build it.

The RSX could never be moved to Honda, because the Civic is a very solid product for Honda. I don't expect to see anything happen to the RSX/Integra, so long as it remains a solid product for Acura.

The S2000, however, should have been badged as an Acura.

This is not what I think will happen, but what I think should eventually happen if Acura is to play in the big leagues. The TSX should be an es300 competitor, TL and gs300, etc. etc. Acura just can't be offering all of these sub $30k cars if they want a real luxury image. My $ .02.

So you don't view the TSX as a direct competitor to the Lexus IS, Saab 9-3, and Audi A4?

The TL is a direct competitor to the Lexus ES, and probably the GS300/400 as well with a 6MT sport model. I'm sure it will also compete from a value perspective with the BMW 5-Series.

The RL will also probably compete with the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. There's a lot of overlap in the near luxury and luxury segment. Acura has positioned itself to grab a nice piece of this segment where more volume is sold, versus the Lexus LS, BMW 7 and Mercedes S-Class at the high-end.

Besides, this is a tough segment to break into and establish a presence. The Audi A8 is a great car, but even it has its challenges agains the big 3. I'm sure Acura is keeping a close eye on how the Infiniti Q45 and others have done in this segment.

Yeah, and the sale numbers show it Alphanumeric names gave Acura brand recignition--instead of saying "I own a Legend (or Integra, etc...)" you say "I own an Acura." I like the alphanumeric names...it identifies the vehicle as a luxury car.

As for the model lineup and pricing...wishful thinking, but I know you intended it to be.
