So how do the phone controls work (steering wheel). Does it work with any Cell provider, do you need a special phone, etc??

Are you saying that you prefer the name 3.5RL to Legend . The Legend had character, and I think killing the name brought about a total loss of recognition. Though I always hated how car companies put the engine displacement in their names, it is irritating.

Not sure how it works, but I've been wondering how long it would be before cars came out with built-in cellphones (and I'm not talking about that OnStar crap) that would be totally hands-free and sent thru the stereo system speakers.

Escpeically living in New York (it's illegal to drive while talking on the phone, unless it's hands-free), I'd like to see it happen soon....

The new TL is supposed to come with Bluetooth so you can use your Bluetooth phone handsfree in the car. Pretty slick. . .

In the luxury sedan market, even if you narrow it to the luxury SPORT sedan market, more people will run away from a 300 HP V6 offering than will be drawn to it. Your average suburbanite is just scared of a car with that much power...whether they'll admit it or not.

For enthusiasts like us who just can't get enough ponies...be patient and repeat after me ...Type S...it will come.

I would think...with the current state of the RL. It's a good thing the Legend name isn't really tarnished, ah?

Give me a break...the Legend name is dead and it will be dead over here for quite some time (if it ever even does come back). If the RL was named the Legend I'm sure we'd here complaints about how the car isn't befitting of the Legend name. Is the "Legend" name alone going to give a car more character? Didn't think so.

I'll say it again--3.5 RL gave the car BRAND recognition. It's actually quite a good strategy. Brand recognition is far more important than model recognition.

He said we are pretty sure, MAN it would be nice to have a 3.5 L pushing 280 HP, That would kick Nissan's Ass with its VQ Engine

2004 TL info: (take with grain of salt)
FWD 3.5L 280HP V6
More info next month (after sept 1 I assume)

OK.. so nothing major but still interesting.
Posted from a differnt thread, but here it goes again:
I picked up a copy of the September 2003 Automobile Magazine, in it had an article on the "2004's FAB 50" (aka the 50 hottest new cars of 2004). On page 88, it states that for the 2004 TL, "is slightly shorter and wider than its predecessor."

This article also states that "Engines essentially are carried over with a few tweaks; the uplevel Type-S again will be powered by a 260-horsepower 3.2-liter V-6."

OK, if these bozos at Automobile don’t know there is no “type-S” I am not sure that any of their info can be trusted.

So it just goes to show (along witht he pop mechanics article), that they are all guessing at this point.

Also, the 2004 RSX pamphlete shows 270HP (this would be the "official" number).

The other thing we can hope is that the open 5 spoke wheels are actually the HPT package that we have all lusted after (with 18" wheels)! This is what is shown in PM and the car connection shots.

All the shots in Seattle showed solid spokes

Sorry to kinda be off topic a bit

I wanted to toss in my 2 cents. The new TL is VERY VERY VERY quick. I had a first hand experiance racing it thru the mountains in Colorado in the beginning of June.

My wife and I were drivng cross country from Boston, MA to Phoenix, AZ and I noticed a couple cars ahead of us covered in black and grey tape. I asked my wife to speed up and pass them so we could take a look.

As we were passing the lead car I saw a Acura logo peeking thru the tape on the front. I grabbed for my camera and began taking pictuers. When the driver, of what I now have learned is the new TL, saw me he up shifted and literally dissappeared! We were doing about 110 in our Element at the time.

He was being followed by 3 cars, one I couldn't recognize, but it was slow and could barely keep up with the Honda Pilot and MDX that tired to catch up with the TL. The Pilot had no tape covering it and the MDX had dual mufflers and was covered in tape. Both were covered in antennas and filled with engineers holding laptops. All 4 cars had sequentially numbered plates from ohio that had the words "Honda R & D" at the bottom.

Sorry for the blury pics, I had a shitty camera at the time and had to wait 3 seconds between pics. :-(

Great shots man. You were doinf 110 in a Honda Element? Wow! I didn't know they go that fast.

Hmm, sounds like an MDX Type-S is on its way!

Is it me, or does this angle seem to resemble the rear quarter shape of the 94-97 Accord?

Wait a min. This car has no character line runnning along the side of it.

Hmmm...

Judging from no character line and the exhaust pipe, could it be that they were testing not the TL but a TSX Type S? And that the MDX is the 04 update? Things that make you go hmm...

Good call, because the TL has standard XM radio and there was not a roof antenna on that car.

This is more than likely a TL prototype. And, being that this car was photographed in June, I'm sure a lot of production elements were left off, especially considering the fact that the only thing we could draw from until recently was the '04 TL Concept.

So, Acura had probably had some room to play around with some things in order to decide what would make it into production and what wouldn't.

It still looks very much like a '94-'95 Accord in the rear.

It looks like a TSX around the rear quarter panel but the door handles seem to be too low!! Maybe it's the FP (Factory Performance) TSX that Justin has been hinting about or better yet...a TSX Type-S

No, I think Justin said awhile ago that the MDX will have dual exhaust for 04. I don't think we will see a Type S MDX. This might explain the 5HP jump too.

Can anyone scan the small photo of the MDX in the 04 RSX brochure? I want to see the slight front updates and new wheels.

When I first saw it thats exactly what I thought... even the front end looks like the old Accord. But with all that tape, they could have added styrofoam panels to make it seem bigger etc. And it couldn't keep up with the MDX or the Pilot at all, he tired but even we outran him in the element. Which by the way, the element tops out at 115mph on the stock tires, I learned that the hard way racing a Lancer EVO VIII :-p

Dont forget the indent on the side was covered in tape on all the spy shots, that is why it is missing.

From the article below in thecarconnection.com it says:

"The overall shape is the same as the TL Concept, but it looks even better in real life — especially the racy open-spoke wheels of the production TL, which outshine the concept car’s wheels"
