I hope you're saving your pennies! No way this car goes sub 4s to 60 with a 350hp motor.
i am surprized you even comment on horsepower. Civic Type R is 5 year old technology and it produces over 300bhp from 2.0L.
All new V6 should out perform it in all parameters on top of all refinement for premium car.
The new TLX has grown in size, and is more or less in the same ball park as the bigger 4G TL size. This is a good move since that the TLX is now the flagship sedan in the Acura sedan lineup.
None of the length, width increase over the previous TLX made into the inside of the car where it matters the most - while almost the size of the RLX on the outside, it's 24 cu ft smaller inside (93 vs 117 - the TL was 111).

That’s a bummer. But I guess they are targeting more of a sport oriented group rather than space and value. I think it’ll be fine for now but it may be a problem in coming years when newer entrants join the race.
I’m still baffled by Honda / Acura’s total disregard for electric power trains. With all that looks and sporting credentials, the performance can be easily beat by a Model 3/ Y, and I’ll bet they can handle better too.
The TLX’s saving grace will be the styling and interior build quality for now.
Thr next year will be a watershed year for automotive industry. Let’s wait and see.
I'm wondering/guessing that the transaxle differential and driveshafts are in FRONT of the engine oil pan instead of behind as on the transverse Honda/Acura's. That's the only way I can think of to gain that 4" of wheelbase and have such a short front wheel overhang.
The 1G Legend had a longitudinal V6 with the transmission at the back but the differential was in the oil pan of the engine, it gave it a long wheel base and short overhang for a FWD car.
Overall I'm pretty impressed, it's not as radical a change from the 2G TL to the 3G TL but it's definitely a large improvement from the 1G TLX. Looking forward to the Type-S and the all new DOHC V6 turbo
+ double wishbone front suspension
+ cast aluminum front strut towers
+ NSX electric brake servo assist (kinda weird that Honda/Acura did this as I suspect the vast majority of owners won't know or care about it, vacuum servo's work fine)
+ exterior styling looks very BMW like
+ turbo's on both drivetrains
+ Brembo calipers
- MMI, no touchscreen? Really? Maybe it's too far away, love the touch screen on my wife's CRV
- I was expecting a total digitial display for the driver, not analog needle for speedo and tach
- no MT or DCT
- only 0.1 cuft bigger despite the increase in wheelbase, length and width.
Nothing wrong with DCT itself. It was just the 9-speed the TLX had.
Unless the problems were overblown? I am a little traumatized from Acura's 5AT. Any issue Honda auto trans issue, no matter how insignificant, is enough to trigger a twinge of PTSD.
There's no guarantee the MK8 Golf R will have a manual, so it might be a bust.
I've heard rumors that it's coming DSG only because racecar.

Right but neither of its competitors can do a sub 4 0-60 even with all the torques. I seriously doubt this thing will outrun an Audi S4 let alone the M340i. Hopefully it can replace lost performance with a lower price tag.

expect more unreliable junk from VW. once China and Russia put there hammer on it after seeing all the court rulings around the world.
What's your point?

The ZF9 is a steaming pile in every car it has ever been installed in. Glad they're ditching it.
Isn't the 9 speed in the current V6 TLX an automatic? I think it's the 8 speed in the 4 cylinder that's the DCT. I haven't paid much attention to either though
It appears you can get the base 2021 TLX with the 2.0 turbo K20C4 , and tune it to get almost 350 hp and over 300 torque. What a nice upgrade to the K20C4 ! I may be able to get the TLX 4 cylinder and not even wait around for the Type S!
You cannot compare horsepower of Honda engine with a horsepower from another firm that has third rate engineering and corporate culture.
Honda has its own standards of reliability ,emissions, fuel efficiency, refinement. Honda can produce V6 turbo engine that is leaps and bounds over Civic Type R.

Yes, a manual transmission has already been confirmed for the MK8 Golf R. A couple weeks ago, an engineer or PM did a YouTube video talking about the MK8 in general. Around the 15 minute mark, he mentions the MK7 and MK7.5 had a near 50% take rate for manuals, and how they'd be crazy to not offer one. It's the only place I've seen it confirmed, but he worked on the car and knows. I'm just hoping they upgrade the clutch so it doesn't need replacing after just going to stage 1.

Sorry not sure how to edit on mobile, but here's the link. It was their public relations guy:Tetzlaff, Thomas, Public Relations Manager, for VW of Canada, was interviewed on Youtube a couple days ago.
@coop3422, thanks! I at least was fairly confident the next GTI/R would be available with three pedals under the dash; this makes my short list for my next car a list of two:
2018 BMW 340i 6MT
2021 VW GTI/R
My fervent hope/plan is for my next car to last the rest of my driving life (maybe 25 to 30 years).

no problem, happy to share. A buddy and I had been searching every where for info in on this, and he found it a couple weeks ago. But he decided to trade in his 17 R for a 19R. For work, my car needs to be within 7 years for my vehicle allowance. So even though I never used to care about the model year, now I do. Otherwise I wouldn't have sold my 350ZR, and I'd own a 13 S4 6spd.
Either way, now I know for sure the TLX is auto only, it's off my list. We love my wife's MDX, and I was hoping to get an Acura too. I have a loaded 2015 A6 3.0T, which I'll likely replace with the upcoming redesigned WRX, STi, or MK8 Golf R. I'd like a 2019 340 6spd too, but the model year means I'd have to replace it sooner.
The only wrinkle regarding the 2019 and later 340i cars is they are automatic only; the only way to get a manual transmission in a BMW "3" is to buy an M3. As much as I'd like an M3, I don't feel like depleting my retirement investments to that degree.

Sure I can. Horsepower is an SAE rated value, it doesn't care about brand.

I wouldn't get either of those if that's your plan.

+1, I was kinda hoping a manual option for the 2l four, since the Accord Sport has a 6MT even for both the 1.5l and 2l.

that was the only thing giving me a slimmer of hope they've give us a manual. For all the talk about emotion and driver connection, would have been nice to see them take the enthusiast gamble on the niche market and be the only luxury sport sedan with a manual. If Oh well.
