GT Says Executive Bonuses Will Drive Bankruptcy Survival Bid
Dec. 30, 2014 4:08 p.m. ET
The New Hampshire company that fell into bankruptcy following a failed deal with Apple Inc. is asking to pay millions in bonuses to its senior executives.
GT Advanced Technologies Inc. says it needs to keep the identities of those in line for bonuses secret to keep its business from being damaged.
Pay enhancement is necessary to motivate “the key drivers” in GT’s bid to restore its business in bankruptcy, lawyers said. Court filings outlining the bonus proposal say GT’s stock, once a major component of executive compensation, is no longer good for motivating performance by company leaders.
More than 800 jobs were lost when the company shut down its sapphire-manufacturing operation, which failed to produce screen material acceptable to Apple at a cost that made sense for GT. Morale is low, and people are leaving, lawyers for GT said in a filing Monday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Hampshire.
Because of GT’s October bankruptcy filing, its bonus programs need a judge’s signature to take effect. The company is asking for a hearing in January and says it expects opposition.
One proposed program covers nine unidentified senior executives, some of whom could double their salaries if top targets are hit, court papers say. GT says it expects to pay $2.275 million to the top-level executives under the bonus program.

On a serious note, that 9-DCT looks to be quite big...and I'm not sure if it's designed for non-hybrid applications. Assuming it works and fits, I still think it's more likely to see the 7-DCT from RLX hybrid than the 9-DCT.
Yeah and I regret it. If they don't offer a Type-S with a 6MT in a year, I could easily see myself trading it in for a Golf R or Focus RS.
It's just weird that they spend the dough for a very low volume application, but can't get a DCT paired with the 3.5 -- no comprende.

What were "we right about"?
Plenty of things to like about the car. Lack of a 6MT and the dodgy ZF is not one of them. Knew about the former, but not the latter before I bought one. Prefer the 6AT in our 3G MDX over the ZF by a mile.
Caveat, was easy on it during break in and we're are in the middle of winter, so am not exactly driving it aggressively, so we'll see if I have a bigger smile come Springtime.

On the other hand, Acura has to ensure that the trannies are in working order.
So IMO both are at fault.
I dunno about the Type S, but my '06 6mt is super easy to drive (after the check valve removal mod). The clutch requires next to no effort to push down. I've done plenty of stop and go driving in it and it never has bothered me the least bit
I know a stiff clutch can be a pain...

buuuut, light clutch or not, it's still easier in atl traffic for me to have an auto. when the time comes for a toy, it will be manual.
Yeah, it can suck driving an MT in b-b traffic sometimes, but I would never want to give up a manual transmission. Ever.
Light clutch. Let it out slowly and roll. Not too bad.
However the best solution is to actively avoid traffic.

It happened a couple times that the car behind me lost patience and overtook my crawling 2G 5MT Integra, using the curb lane.
Eventually I got so fed up that I gunned my car as soon as he was alongside me, and blocked him out, leaving him stranded in the curb lane.

we follow the oil trend.
auto manufactures are using these so called gimmicks or tricks up MPG.
we're in houston and the current price of oil is low,I wonder if there will be an uptick in SUV sales this year.
Probably quite a few people will sell their Prius or Versa or whatever this summer and buy the new Silverado or Ram they wanted. Then when gas prices go up again, they'll take a bath on the resale just to get back into a Corolla.

Nice car, but unfortunately no match against the McLaren, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche GT3, Audi R8, and Nissan GT-R, in the GT class; unless the race track is rain soaked only then the SH-AWD TLX-GT can "fly".

Isn't this there first year with the TLX GT car? And I also think they only did like 3 races in the GT Class late last year in that car? I'd imagine they will take some time to get up to speed?
Just check out how all those RWD supercars pull away from exiting the corners on dry tracks.
The TLX-GT is simply not in the same league in the GT class against the McLaren, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche GT3, Audi R8, and Nissan GT-R; unless it rains and the AWD kicks in full.
Only the NSX is capable to compete in the GT class.
In the previous years, the Integra/RSX/TSX entries were all in the GTS class, and never the GT class.
Maybe RealTime Racing is bored and therefore it is going for a mission impossible this time around.
It's just to spice up the marketing effort. Acura doesn't have to be successful in the actual racing series. They have already utilized the TLX racecar to the fullest during the TLX launch PRs.
Spicing up is good, but why not go another step further.
The marketing effort becomes even more effective, just like a couple years back, when the RealTime Acura RSX/TSX kept winning both the Driver's and the Constructor's Championships for consecutive years in the SCCA-WC (= PWC now) GTS racing series.

Who the fuck even cares about the racing TLX? It has zero in common with an actual TLX besides the body. That would be along the lines of Ford comparing a Nascar stock car with a Taurus fibreglass body to the actual Taurus being sold to the public

lol I think Nascar is a bit extreme?? The TLX GT's body is actually different...it's all CF.....front suspension (double wishbone) and tranny are also different. A lot of interior stuff is also gutted out. But the engine is still a J35 with stock block , head, crank, and TB. I think the SH-AWD system is similar to stock but reinforced to handle 600hp and racing purpose.
I understand what you are saying man. And the NSX is most likely a better platform for the GT class. But when I look at that driver points table though, the two TLX's were actually in 8th/10th out of like 25-30 cars (that table is gone from the website now for some reason). I just thought that's not bad given how the cars you mentioned are based on super cars, and that this year is pretty much their first year in GT class.

Stig will lap me with a Civic than me driving a GTR.
