Costco was pretty much sraight on. MRF is Magnetorheological Fluid, MRF is easier to spell and say. Basically it has these things called feroparticles in the fluid, when magnetic current is applied, these feroparticles form chains which restrict the flow of fluid effectively making the suspension firmer.

In 2 words, they can be described as "kick ass".

Had to chance to have a look at the front end of a TL at lunch. There are 2 smaller pieces of metal above the headlights and on either side of the grille. I don't think it would take much to make that one big piece that runs the length of the front end.

Not sure. Didn't touch it. If it is plastic, then it's even easier to make it a single piece. I'm sure TL owner can confirm.

It's sheet metal. The factory workers were unfamiliar with this new type of design and assembly, they said it was one of the more difficult processes of this generation's build.

It should not be too difficult to convert it to a single piece but even three pieces like the RonJon design would not be bad because the gaps line up with the hood creases.

t-minus 2 days....

I have to admit I can't wait for the MMC press release on Feb-9. Maybe because I'm a former TL owner who wants to see Acura atone for its over-beakage and allow consumers to appreciate the 4G as a whole rather than a hot chick with a big schnoz.

I would have to agree. As much as I think they need to take several giant steps back on this new front end and back end design, I suspect we will only see token tweeks that will only be noticed by those who are really paying attention. I hope I'm wrong

The bottom line is: Will Acura own up to the fact that they f^^*ed up the TL exterior design big time?

I know there are a lot who feel its a total abortion of a redesign. I never loved what they did with the front end and backend (backend more so) but I stop short of calling it completely f^^*ed up. Having said that, I still think the changes they probably need to make are too much for an MMC. That's why I'm with Moog when he says prepare to be disappointed.

Yes.

They will change the next gen TL.
....but I fear they will go to far, and the next gen TL will be ultra-vanilla.

True, the humps on the front wheel well breaks up what would have been a very nice, clean line otherwise

Understood. But honestly if it looks like below, I think it's a worthwhile MMC. I would buy the car below, but not the current model...the oversized beak bothers me that much.

To each his own

Most peeps find a whole lot more wrong with the car than you do.

It's more than just the beak. The horrible rear end design, ugly front wheel fender arches, lots-o-buttons interior......etc and so on.

I think Acura tried so desperately hard to be different to make a name for themselves........and in the end they succeeded.....just not the way they wanted to.

I see more vanilla in Acura's future. The bean counters will win.
No matter who comes on board to design at Acura....vanilla will be the only flavor permitted.

That rendering looks alot better than the current design. Definitely a worthwhile MMC.

Bottom line is they need to GET RID of the beak, not just keep tweaking it. And they need to fire the design team that came up with this ridiculous idea.

The problem with Japanese car companies, more specifically Honda is that they tend to drastically change the exterior styling of their car from generation to generation. If you look at the Germans or even Lexus, there's a slight evolution in design from generation to generation. Not to mention those companies have more leeway to make more "bold" or "polarizing" design changes because of their established pedigree.

Acura messed up with the TL design. The 3G easily sold 5K units a months. Now it's selling 1.5-2K a months for the 4G. That's a huge drop. The economy cannot be blamed for it anymore because BMW and MB are killing it in sales.

fucking Edmunds, they put a 2011 TL in the spot for the revised TL in their preview of the Chicago auto show. Got me all excited thinking the picture leaked ahead of debut.

Hey Type34 (or anyone else for that matter),
Just curious, could you try doing a color matched grille just to see what it would look like?

It looks like they changed the front bumper, blacked out the headlight housings, and it also looks like a new style of the 5-spoke wheel. And I bet the same grilled thats on the 2011 TSX and RL will also be on this MMC.

judging from the body lines I can make out in that pic, there's a good possibility the grille does not ride up on the hood anymore. that it's aligned with the top of the headlights.

IMO, I'd rather see the TSX become the next CL. My 3.0 has the same hp as the TSX I4. Plus isn't it more cross-platform since the TSX is more based on the Accord?

It's 3G-esque, but an EVOLUTION thereof. Also the belt line looks lower, and the rear is proportionately high enough for the car. AND the fender mumps have been removed. There is so much wrong with the 4G.

I would buy that coupe if it were RWD and 325+ hp.

As has been said...I am prepared for disappoint.

yup, thats exactly what i was aiming for - an evolved 3G...simplified, without the gimmicky add-ons found on the 4G...think of it as a prequel done right. going back to the drawing board helped - the side by side rendering makes the TL looks like one big hot mess.

Is it possible that this economy affects the traditional Acura buyer more than the traditional BMW and MB buyer?

When given the choice of spending 30-40k... I think in this economy there are those who would rather wear the badge, then buy a possible superior car. IE MB, C series, and BMW 3 series. I've seen a lot of stripped down 3,s lately -- my only thought is people want the perception of luxury - and would rather put their 35k into the beemer, then Acura.

thats always been the case...its really more the question of WHERE than WHEN, as location sometimes equates to image conscience. maybe youve noticed your neighborhood's local economy is growing/gentrifying more quickly than it should...and the asshats are emerging prematurely....

here's an example based on city:

Manhattan - Guys with 6 figure bonuses driving around 20k beaters.
Miami - Price of car > Annual salary...sometimes by two fold or more.
