Agreed about the SOHC and DOHC.
293 lb/ft is pretty close to 300 and I am sure it could be improved upon. And it comes at 4800 rpm. Plus the IS weighs 3527 pounds. Bottom line, what I'm saying is that Acura should find a way to make more torque than the 73.8 lb per liter which is the case of the AWD TL. Otherwise, forced induction it is then for Acura. We need more torque. The 335 in reality makes about 350 pounds of torque. That's more like it.

Correct. The numbers I was looking at were for the same engine in detuned form destined for the refreshed A6.

Now if only they could fix the styling. Its not horrible in person but the grill up close needs a lot of work

i thought a darker color like black would make the car better. so when i went to the acura website and built a black one, it only makes the grille stand out even more.
i really want to like the car, but it's going to be difficult.
it's bad enough that the grille is all fawked up. but the rear is really gonna take a bit getting used to.

I'd like to see a black TL with a color matched grille. I think it might make a difference. I just don't know what to do with that stupid silver piece on the back by the trunk. I hate that, too.
I really want to like the car, too, but I'm still hung up on a few things.

I'm Down Right Fierce!
Well I finally saw the 4g in person today. And I must say, that from the back and profile it doesn't look bad; looks pretty classy imo.
It is considerably larger than my 2g, and the interior (from what I could see through the tint) looked awesome.
With that said, I still do not like the "Power Plenum" Grille. Maybe theres a way to put the MDX grille on there...

Three Wheelin'
Looks GREAT!
I really was expecting something atrocious based on some of the comment here.
But, that white TL with bodykit looks fantastic, especially the rear shot. I really REALLY like this car. Guess it just goes to show just how subjective styling is.
I much rather prefer the styling of this car over anything else in the segment (3, IS, C, G) and even the new A4 included. Yes, I'm partial to Acura, but this car truly looks refreshing and bold and well styled in my opinion. And now it finally has the performance to deliver.
I'd like to see some real world mpg figures. 3G owners report 30mpg on the hwy - hopefully this one can deliver more of the same.

the grille just stands out so much. it looks obnoxious and offensive, to a point.
last night, i was bored so i was looking at pics of the car online.
when i look at the grille, i think
![ugh](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/ugh.gif)
but then when i start to think i can get used to it, i look at the rear and go
![ugh](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/ugh.gif)
then when i think that i can finally get used to the rear, i see the front again and think
![ugh](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/ugh.gif)
![ugh](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/ugh.gif)
the profile, i like.
it's too bad because the interior is gorgeous. and the wheels on the AWD version is the best i've seen from acura.

I'm gonna add my camera phone pics of the 2009 TL when I went to get my 2007 TSX serviced:
Front:
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/ut0t1/2009TL_1.jpg)
Under the hood:
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/ut0t1/2009TL_3.jpg)
Trunk:
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/ut0t1/2009TL_2.jpg)
Impressions:
I didn't test drive the car but I did sit in every seat (I had a long wait) ... seating feels as comfortable / firm as the 3rd gen TL. Leather surfaces / plastic buttons feel very similar. Steering wheel is thicker and button layout for the various functions seem to be better positioned for most actions. I don't think the buttons in the center stack is perplexing. You won't need to use an iDrive like function to get what you need to do -- you just need to know which button to press. Take your pick on which application is "easier".
Rear seats are roomy. The headrests flip down to reduce blindspots via the rearview mirror. There is a noticeable 'bump' in the middle seat, limiting foot room.
As for going around and kicking the tires ... I opened up the hood and not surprisingly, most of the area is covered up in plastic. I asked a salesperson how does one check the brake fluid ... and he pointed to the transmission fluid dipstick
I speak to a female salesperson and she told me which plastic cover to lift up and look for the clear plastic container.
In the trunk area -- space seems about the same as the 3rd gen TL (didn't have a measuring tape). I kinda like the drawer feature in case you need to put something small and you don't want to use the cargo net. (ie maps, papers, small things that can easily be lost).
Overall, I think the layout and interior is nice. Exterior -- it's just like it looks in the pictures, which is disappointing. Hope in the MY2010 -- they fix the grill ... just as fast as what Subaru did when people blasted the homage to the propeller in a very short-lived grill design they had a few years back.

I keep hoping Acura is gonna jump out from behind the bushes and say, "Haha, just kidding about that grille guys!!! Here's the real new TL (drives in the Sports4 concept). You didn't think we'd seriously build something that grotesque did you?"
Oh well, back to reality.

Saw an 09 Base w/ Tech @ the dealer. It definately looks better in person than in pics that's for sure. The chrome wasn't as offensive to me as it is to others. The interior looks alot better than the 3G and the quality of the leather passed the butt test. The interior materials seemed better as well. I wasn't able to drive it much less turn the damn thing on but it felt huge sitting in it. From the exterior- this is one big friggin car. Why is it that part of the rear window trim stays on the car while you open up the rear door? I don't like that one bit.
The front grill is definately the worst thing about it IMO. I do admit though it wasn't as bad seeing it in person. Could I live w/ it? I don't know. Hopefully Ron can come up w/ a better alternative. The rear actually looked ok. The base 17" wheels/tires suck. I do like the side profile shot of the vehicle and love the fact that next year there will be a MT option on both the base and AWD models.

Yeah I know what you mean. Many get bigger with their sedans mostly because the sedans have "stolen" a large chunk off of the SUV market. People left the large (especially truck-platform-based) SUVs for large, newer generation sedans. And I am guessing that's why Honda got so much bigger with the Accord and TL which is very unlike Honda. Remember the previous gen. Accords? They were usually smaller than the competition.
Anyway, I feel that these manufacturers have got to find a way to get these cars lighter if there is no choice other than getting them smaller. I know it's super expensive but unless we find a way to get tremendous amounts of torque created by very cheap energy sources and zero emissions, sedans must get smaller somehow.

maybe to you. but to some of us that r looking for some more luxury it does matter just like the rain sensing windhield wipers &/or the auto headlights especially when the technology is so cheaply available elsewhere.

I agree about your second part. Mazda2 and Ford Fiesta are doing that right now.

That's exactly why some of us buy Acuras because they come with HID's, leather, power and heated seats, moonroof as standard features. Some other cars in the luxury car segment, you need to pay extra to get these basic features.
