Man I was just talking about a sick ass camel interior today and how my next car would have one. Then all of a sudden pics of this new TL's interior show up. I'm smiling from ear to ear... until I see the exterior shots.

What a fucking ugly wreck this new TL is on the outside. A new grille would solve this car's major problems right away, but it would take a lot more to completely fix everything...

So, show of hands.... who in their right mind would take this horrific abomination over a loaded AV6 EX-L? Anybody? A poster on autoblog said it best.... this new TL is an ugly, overpriced, overweight Accord.

I'd be REALLY surprised if Acura can move this new TL off the lots. I remember in another thread I said I'd take a 6MT TSX over a previous-gen 5AT G35 coupe, but in this case I would definitely take an automatic Genesis sedan over even a 4G 6MT TL.

^ I would.

I don't think it's the best looking sedan, but it's hardly ugly. And as nice as the Accord's interior is, this is way nicer. This interior no longer looks like it would feel like a really nice Honda.

I'll agree on that, I give it serious points for its interior

I like the interior and if the price was right, I would learn to like the exterior...

^true, but I hope Acura doesn't think that they won you over because of their radical design.
My wife saw the pics on my laptop last night and was like "why are you looking at that ... do you actually like that?"
She didn't believe me when I told her it was the new TL.

That's one of the biggest complaints about the current gen, you'd think they would take some time to get a 40K car paint right.

I think it's more noticeable on lighter colors...I always see this two-tone paint on the white TLs and the light gray ones. Other colors don't seem to have that problem.

i would...though, only if the price of the TL was going to be the accord's price.

Here is Acuras line up IMO

New TSX - Looks much better than the old model. The curves make it look much sportier. The car looks better expect you see the front and the grille is not so good. Even the rest of the front looks good its just that grille.

09 RL - For a refreshed car it looks better. The new Rims look nice and the butt looks much better and classier. Walk around to the front and its the same problem, the grille.

09 TL - Overall the styling is pretty good but the arugement can be made that the 04-08 looks better. It depends on the taste you like but once again walk around to the front and same problem.

Bottom line is that the new cars all look fine they just need to fix the grilles.

What was wrong with that grille?

I beg to differ, Trackrunner. To me, the new TSX looks like garbage as does the new TL. The RL, while it was never a huge headturner looks decent but I'd look elsewhere if I were in the market for something in that range. Sadly, I think most of the general public has gotten that hint and has moved on to bigger and better offerings from the other manufacturers in the marketplace.

...and there is no comparison. The Genesis is much more pleasing to our eye balls. It looks ridiculously good.

i'm not sure what planet you guys are from, but around these parts, that's one ugly looking car. i don't care if it had the interior of a bentley, i still wouldn't get it with that horrific exterior.

i said it before and i'll say it again... this new TL is the beginning of the end.

the old grille is fine, but maybe acura thought it's too old and needed a change.

I just saw a new TSX at lunch. Every time I see one I like it less and less. Which is the opposite of how I usually feel with Honda products. All those strange angles and lines are getting worse.

And those wheel arches and tiny ugly wheels.

Yeah and I understand that but if your going to start fixing Acura products the first place should be the grille.

I guess we are going to have to let sales say for themseleves.

According to Autoblog, the head designer is Art Osborn. let's start a petition to get rid of him.

"The entire TL effort was handled by Honda R&D in the United States with Art Osborn leading the exterior design at Acura's new design studio in Torrance California. After getting approval for the new look, the decision was made to at least add the shield grille to the other sedans and roll them all out at about the same time. Unfortunately for the RL, this means that the grille looks tacked on and far less integrated than the TL. The TSX isn't as bad, but the nose still looks better in Europe where it is sold as the Honda Accord. The next generation of Acuras including the upcoming NSX replacement and the next generation, all-new RL will incorporate a style more in keeping with the TL.

Osborn discussed the look of the new TL with its "keen-edge dynamic" language saying, "On the one hand we have technology which is precision machined, billet and shear, high-tech, and on the other hand we have emotion which is human, dynamic, sensual. We fuse those together and get keen edge dynamic.""

I don't believe in a luxury sedan for 40 bucks. Sorry. I DO believe that Acura and Honda make better cars than Hyundai. I DO believe that a Merz costs 3 times more of a Genesis because is 7 times better.
Maybe I'm simply naive.

It's funny how all these comments about lynching Art Osborn. It sounds just like what people said about Chris Bangle when he introduced the surface flame designs at BMW. Most if not all of his designs went on to sell well. Time will only tell if this new direction will make or break Acura. I remember how bad the new 5 series, then the 7 series got crucified but they still sold well.

We had always complained about how bland Acura designs were in comparison to others. Granted they now went to the extreme side of the spectrum of ugly, but at least they're moving some direction and not stagnating. We'll see how sales are 6 months from now to know how the public responds. . .

Yeah... I'm not getting your math here... I suggest you "examinate" your math.

And Yes the Genesis is objectively a good looking car. If Acura/Honda released the Genesis as it's own car, I'm sure it would be much better received.

But back on point. For all those people who are saying that they can learn/grow to like the exterior, I have just one question: should a car at a $40k+ price point have to grow on you?

while i can kind of respect acura for attempting (emphasis on the word 'attempting') to make their next gen cars look a little edgier or similar to that of the concept drawings, these new designs are just not doing it for me overall.

every time i see the new TSX, i dislike it more and more. honestly, the only redeeming value is the lower v-tec engagement point.

the RL looks like a mess. the TL, relatively speaking, is probably the best looking of the bunch. for some reason i can tolerate the cheese grater on it more than the others, but that's not saying much.

and like someone said, if you price out all the features on the next gen TL and it's north of $40K, goodbye good looks and good value from the last gen.

I don't think it's bad, not handsome, but not bad. It would look so much better if this thing was RWD, though. Cause then that loooong front overhang wouldn't be there.

Art Osborn, I think, was given too much freedom with design. Coming from a company that is very conservative with exteriors (less the NSX) to all of a sudden bringing out edgy design ... what was Tokyo execs thinking?

Making comparison to Chris Bangle ... quite premature at this time. I didn't think he screwed up BMW design like Osborn did to Honda. (I would say the opposite about Bangle -- his design still influences other manufacturers in a positive way, for the most part) I would draw Acura's grill comparisons to how Subaru did with the homage to the plane propeller design from a few years ago. Do you remember how quickly that grill design across the board was changed??? I think it lasted 1 (maybe 2?) model years.

Bangle (whether you like his designs or not) is a big success. Not only are his BMW designs selling big for BMW, but a large number of MFG. are copying elements of his designs.

That says alot.

I don't think other mfg's. are gonna put Osborns cheese grater grille, out of place fender flares, and trunk creases on their cars any time soon.

It would sell like hot cakes. People will think Acura is doing superb job.

As for that european guy, the german car designs are alright, but they have very poor reliability. They are built to break. Break after break after break... You would have to sell your house to pay for all that repair bills.... So it would be 7 times worse. I would stay the hell away from Mercedes and BMW's.....
