Sounds like Honda isn't serious about making an actual luxury cruiser. Time to shove an LSx motor in my RL and make it RWD.

ok...I was just saying that the interior in the picture has real wood. Never made any Bentley comparisons lol

It would make the RL something that might be desirable.

Not quite the case! All cars you see use Wood Veeners for the exact reason Ken stated, it shattering! On a thin plastic sheet, they put on layers of wood trim and then they stain them and lacquer them! Very few area's on cars have real wood that's FULLY wood. For example the drawers on my car are full wood, and so are the smaller wood pieces. On Bently's, real wood is limited to around the gauge cluster, otherwise everything else is wood-veneers.

I understand, my point was that there is a layer of real wood and not plastic as said on the previous page. If the dash used solid wood it would be dangerous.

Actually a flagship Bentley, which would be the Mulsanne right now, uses a big piece of wood for the door cappings or things like that as well, not veneers.

2011 RL refresh

Saw this posted on the Acura twitter page. Subtle changes to the grill.

I spy a new grille and the 2011 Legend's wheels. I admit I like the overall package more than the AWD TL for the interior and ride, but not about $10,000 more.

Is it also true that this will be rated at 309 hp or something like I saw here on AZ somewhere a while ago?

EDIT: I was also just thinking. The quickest 0-60 time I've seen for the 2G RL update is 6.5 seconds, a full half second off of what the AWD TL does. The TL weighs about 100 pounds less and is rated for 5 hp less, but a half second? Is the gearing or something different? This car really ought to be around 6.0 seconds.

superme refinement/quietness/comfort, best handling on all season tires,
best fit/finish/built quality (just ask Edmunds).
I would say that overall package is very convincing even at $50K.
this car wont be slower than 535 with 6speed auto. and will have no problem bald tires and leaky suspension.
just the intanglibles make it $10k more expensive than TL.
I doubt TL-SH-AWD will reach RL comfort/quietness/interior environment. It is the same difference as between 3 series and 5 series.

this car just doesn't work. the RL originally designed as a sleek looking car, swept back headlights, wedge shaped silhouette.

now they flattened the hood, gave it the angular grille treatment, angular headlights, meanwhile keeping the cabin completely intact, and revamped the rear with some rice looking lights.

You right. One more gear in the transmission will easily subtract second off of 0-60 time, what it needs to be fast as 535i.

RL was already best finished, roomiest, most aerodynamic car with superiorest ground clearance and most elegance so nice wheels not necessary. Now it's also BMW fast.

100% correct. Yet the RL is still far better looking than the TL.

It's still ugly.

I think they're going to have to scrap the entire front design language and start over.

If they had gone with "high performance hybrid" engine in the 2009 RL they might've differentiated the RL from the TL to spur a bit of sales. Think of them doing something like the hybrid Accord for an engine. They could even keep the more efficient and smaller 3.5 V6. Lexus pulled 340 hp from a 3.5 hybrid drivetrain for 2007, so why Acura couldn't get 340-350 a couple of years later would be beyond me. At that point the 6spd should've been rolled out. And a 350 hp RL getting 20/27 or better might have a real selling point in the class, not just at the Acura stealership. It would have better mileage than standard V6 cars in its class and better power. At Acura, the problem with the RL has been that you get almost everything the RL has in the TL. For 2005-2008, all you really got with the RL was a better ride and AWD, not enough for a $10,000+ premium. Now that it doesn't even have the latter advantage, beating out a TL on ride, efficiency, and performance might help it sell . . . . 500 a month? LOL

But I guess with a car having consistently been a slow seller, no one would want to invest that much in the car.

C/D got 6.3s in the 290hp 2005 or 2006 RL. With about 20 more hp now, I'd imagine it should be a bit quicker.

Oh yeah, they ran a very short run of cars early in the year. Our three RLs are all >290 days old.

Why wouldn't he be able to get this? He could probably do better actually. I'd think the dealers would do almost anything to get them off of their inventory, especially with the end of the year quickly approaching.

Maybe if he plays his cards right he could actually get THEM to pay HIM to take the car off their lot.

I havent seen anyone in the RL section get lower than 42k on their RL with Tech, but then again not many been buying them to post.

Non-tech been going for $38k it seems.

Name a car for $40k new that has everything the RL has?

Reliable
Build quality (made in japan)
Quiet cabin
Comfy ride (hes 65)
AWD
Navi
Rear view camera

Biggest thing is the quality materials, even sitting in the RL over the TL you can see/feel where they cut costs to make the TL cheaper.

I would certainly take an RL for a minimal premium over a comparably equipped TL AWD. The RL has a much nicer ride and still has great handling, but more importantly its features and interior quality and design are so much better. Most seem to prefer its styling to the TL also, although I like the TL well enough.
