FWIW Moog, one of my old Acura customers had a 2004 comptech NSX (not that comptech made an NSX, but he had every comptech product on this car). He ended up replacing it with a GT-2 because he noticed those "Porsche guys do very well on the track".
Again, i gotta disagree, while i like the 911, when the NSX first debuted it most definitely would have been competition (in 91/92) for the 911.

And an anecdote about your friend replacing the car doesnt really make a strong case.

The Honda marketing folks had the 911 and Corvette as their targets for the NSX. The engineer's targets were Ferrari and Porsche. In the end, not many NSX owners came from any of those.

From the Porsche perspective, it's really a interesting marketing situation. Peter Schutz's book has several chapters on when he was CEO of Porsche. 911 owners had little if any interest in the water cooled 924/944/928 models.

Another still born idea - the next recesion, which is right around the corner, will kill this car also.

Biker, who doesn't think a sports car Volt is what Honda should be making.

I don't think anyone thinks Honda should be making some hopped-up Insight. It's kind of sad how out-of-touch Honda seems to be with its enthusiasts.

The tendency to refer to oneself in the third person is often viewed by psychologists as a symptom of narcissism. In order to learn how to effectively refer to yourself in the third person, it is often desirable to understand the narcissist mentality, and develop an ability to "role-play" as an actual narcissist. Needless to say, the comedic potential of having this ability cannot be overestimated, but there is also danger, in that you may inadvertently develop strong narcissistic tendencies in yourself without realizing it.

Exactly,

Im so tired of hearing media releases from Honda/Acura as its hard to tell what is true and whats BS these days.

Wasnt it back in 2004 or 2005 they announced that the current NSX was coming to an end but a new version was currently being worked on and released soon??

---The following year (2006) the Audi R8 is released and suddenly they are having problems and the NSX will be slightly delayed.

---The year after that (2007) the Nissan GT-R is released and .....Hold On..... the NSX will be delayed again for some unforseen issues.

---Shortly after that the Audi R8 (V-10) is released and the economy is also crashing and now the NSX is cancelled. The following year (2009) the Lexus LF-A is shown at the Tokyo Auto show.

Im sorry but it seems to me that Acura was being outdone by the competition and had to keep returning to the drawing board untill the economy crashed and only companies with big pocket books and balls like Lexus amd Audi etc could continue on.......

I know a lot of you will think this is crazy BS, but i just needed to vent as im soooooo tired of Honda/Acura media BS.

I would like an Acura HSC body with a mid-engine 3.7 V-6, 305 hp, for the price of a Boxster.

I'm not saying a NSX couldn't compete with a 911 on the track, I'm saying that it didn't compete with it all that much in the market place. It may be a minor thing but the 911 is a 2+2, the NSX was a 2 seater. On top of that the 911 was still an air cooled beast back then. The NSX was also much more flamboyant than the 911 with styling more similar to the Italian designs of the time while the 911 was essentially a very sexy VW Beetle.

There may have been some people who cross shopped the 2 but the ones who did most likely hadn't owned a 911 before. I would also believe that few if any current 911 owners ditched their Porsche to pick up an NSX in 91 or 92.

I have worked for both companies (was with Acura for the last 2 years of NSX production). I can say that from with my time with Porsche there were many owners who had great respect for the NSX and some even owned one in conjunction with their P cars but if you drive them back to back they have extremely different personalities. From my time with Acura I never saw someone who was comparing them, NSX buyers at that point only wanted an NSX it was all down to color and price but the NSX was far from a hot new product at that point.

As for my Acura customer who moved on to Porsche, his NSX was built to race, he never used it as a street car despite being registered and plated he trailered it to us and to the track. He was a 5 series guy for the road, he had 4 of them in the family. I mentioned it only to say that on the track competitively, they do compare. He moved on to a GT2 he had felt he reached what were the reliable limits of power the NSX was capable of producing, and handling while still maintaining it's wonderful cornering ability. He had witnessed the impressive cornering ability of the GT2's from the seat of his NSX and being that they were producing a lot more power that was also very usable he decided to make the switch. I mentioned it as a FWIW to Moog as a case where someone moved on to Porsche strictly for a competitive track advantage not for any historical or style reason the guy really loved the NSX but it couldn't run with the big boys on the track in 07/08 and that's the only reason he owned it.

In fact I think my memory may be fading. His car may very well have been a 2000 because I'm pretty sure this is his car.....

Dear Honda,

I have more money to spend. You were my first love, my high school sweetheart. We grew up together, but after two Preludes, an EXL 5MT Accord Coupe, 1st gen TL, 1st Gen TSX, 05 CRV [08 MDX and TL 6MT current] my love has started to fade.

Quite frankly over the years, you've let yourself go. You've grown fatter, you need a nose job, you never dress up for me any more, you're not as light on your feet and you don't give me as much of a thrill when we want to get our groove on.

I'm too young to have a mid-life crisis, but since you haven't undergone much self-improvement recently, I think its best if going forward we see each other a little less. There's a few hot young German and Italian ladies who do make my heart flutter. Oh, I still care about you and you'll always have a special place in my heart.

Warm regards,

Fibo

so they've just officially said something that was unofficially conjured up/miconstrued by loyal NSX fans and passed around the interweb for the past oh 5 years or so.

Honda also mentioned the IS350 when talking about the upcoming sub-TSX so I wouldn't put too much stock in what was said. And lets not forget the Bentley comments from a couple of years ago.

Anyways, nothing really to talk about until we get some semblance of facts from Honda themselves, and that doesn't seem to be happening soon.

Our Fit was sad to see our '06 TL go. But I think it threw up a little coolant when we pulled into Acura looking for its sibling's replacement almost a year ago.

i meant there were only 2 - there weren't enough on display for people to sit in, they were constantly occupied, when it's a heavily revamped model that they should've had more out on the display.

Ito confirms new NSX at Frankfurt

Honda has begun work on a new sportscar in the mould of the iconic Honda NSX, president and CEO Takanobu Ito has sensationally revealed on the eve of the Frankfurt motor show.

However, the ‘new NSX’ will be radically different from its predecessor, with Ito stating that the goal will be to build a car that has a dramatic power-to-weight-ratio as opposed to outright power.

“I spent part of my early career at Honda developing the NSX, and specifically the aluminium body,” said Ito. “I really enjoyed that experience, and learned much, so it is my wish that Honda engineers have the experience of developing a sportscar like the NSX in future. Within Honda, our engineers are already looking at developing such a car.”

Ito declined to comment on when such a car could make production, but he stressed it would be a different vehicle to the original NSX, which weighed 1350kg and had 290bhp.

“You can’t depend on a high power output to call a car sporty anymore,” he said. “The original NSX was about high power but also good driving performance, and today power-to-weight is what we have to focus on. The NSX was known for its aluminium body, so when we develop our new sportscar we don’t want to copy Ferrari for power, but to also chase efficiency as well.”

A successor to the original NSX was originally planned to be launched in 2010, but was canned in December 2008 by then Honda CEO Takeo Fukui in reaction to the economic crisis and growing environmental concerns.

However, Ito is pushing for Honda to push its sporting credentials again, so long as they compliment its environmental stance.

“Our recent efforts have been focused on fuel efficiency, and that perhaps gives the impression Honda is behind with pushing the brand image of sportiness, but let me assure you that is not the case,” said Ito. “We will address that impression with our new generations of cars.”

Okay...fine. But, you were the only person l33t enough to score it on day one.

And put it this way: I'll dance nekkid on the streets if this car sees the light of day.

And even then, if it does, it is going to be supremely underpowered (as already indicated) and likely built off the Civic platform.
