The new Earth Dreams 3.5 was rated at at least 310HP, presumably for application in a TL, MDX etc. I'm sure they could squeeze out a lot more for NSX duty, so I'll guess anywhere between 450-500HP when combining the 3.5 with the electric motors.

Honda said the 3.5L DI engine with electric motors that make 400hp is not potent enough for the NSX....I wonder if they will just increase the engine/motor output, or they will actually develop a different engine for the NSX. May be something similar to the Legend and old NSX, where one had the C32A, and one had the C32B? May be we will see a J35B that can rev much higher and make much more power?

I'd also imagine the weight will be kept quite low..hopefully around 3000lb.

Forgot about that quote. So we're assured of much more than 400hp I think.

I'm sure it will be a variation of the new 3.5. Can't see an entirely new engine for a low volume car.

Unless they're planning on debuting the new V-6 family in the 'halo' car.

That's what I meant, the new Earth Dreams 3.5L V6 that was announced a few weeks ago. Pumped up for NSX duty.

I seriously hope it will be a DOHC version just for the NSX, even though I think you are correct that Honda will probably just tune the regular 3.5L Earth Dreams V6 to have more power/torque. Perhaps they might give it some boost???

I'm not sure if it will be MUCH more than 400hp, my guess would be 450hp-ish. That amount of power pushing 3200lb or so would be pretty decent. Just remember, the NA2 NSX-R is capable of 0-60mph in 4.4s and 1/4 mile in 12.5s@113mph with around 300hp and a curb weight of 2800lb. It also lapped the Nurburgring in 7:56. With more power, WAY more torque (from motors), DCT, AWD, better tires, better chassis, better suspension, and other new tech, I'd imagine the new NSX can do 0-60mph in mid 3's and 1/4 mile in the 11's, while lapping the 'Ring in 7:30 or so.

Id love to see that but I think those numbers are a bit optimistic. Thats purely conjecture though.

Yea...those performance numbers for the next NSX are just pure speculation....

I guess we will have more info in two weeks!

I don't think we'll get too much more info in 2 weeks. We'll get an great idea of the styling and probably be told it will be powered by a V6 with electric motors in the rear. Pretty much the same stuff told to dealers a few weeks ago. But in typical Honda fashion I wouldn't count on any specifics until shortly before launch.

Which is in 2014, correct?

Actually, I think it'll have three electric motors, 2X in the front and one bigger one in the DCT. I think they're saying it'll be out in 18 months which could make it release in CY 2103 as a 2014.

Sorry, I meant front, not rear.

Pardon my laziness but was this discussed or mentioned a few weeks ago? How would that motor work in the DCT?

18 months puts us at a Chicago or perhaps NY 2013 Show launch?

You got me? But from the release:
An electric 4WD system with independent 20kW+ motors on both sides for the rear wheels combines a 7-speed dual clutch transmission system with a built-in 30kW+ high-efficiency motor with the engine.
We're assuming that this description would be 'flipped' for a mid engined car so the 20Kw motors are in the front. I don't think they've shown cutaways of the new DCT+IMA system (if it's even called IMA anymore).

I think its implying the 30kW+ motor will work in conjunction with the engine?? Hopefully we'll find out soon.

If only I could afford one.

Actually I think not. I think by putting the 30Kw motor in the transmission, they could de-couple it from the engine allowing for full electric operation in conjunction with the 20Kw motors. (at least that what I've gleaned from reading various sites).

The beauty of electric-motor-assisted gas engines is that the combined output hp is virtually limitless.

There is no need to even touch the main gas engine. All that is required is to put in bigger and more powerful electric motors to boost the overall output hp.

310hp gas + 50hp electric front + 50hp electric RR + 50hp electric LR = 460hp

310hp gas + 100hp electric front + 100hp electric RR + 100hp electric LR = 610hp

and so on.

On this point, I'm not sure I'd expect to see torque vectoring across the rear axle. The dual motor setup will be in the front with 'big' motor tied to the DCT (or engine depending on how you interpret it). This means it'll work more like the old Prelude SH system.

What intrigues me is that Jeff at TOV has stated that it'll regenerate energy in corners as the inside front motor is under driven, and the outer motor over driven. I believe its been revealed that this system can directly power the outside wheel with energy harvested inside. I'd bet there is a huge jump in efficiency if you don't have to move regenerated energy to the battery pack and then back to the outside wheel motor.

Ok so the concept will have very small taillights, turnsignals, & reverse lights that will become large and plain jane on the final production version

I was getting at the "overall" design being similar if not spot on to the Avengers car. Just add hardtop, and it will be done.

I'm still hoping it looks nothing like the Avengers car.
That car is nice, but nothing jaw dropping. It's a "tame" look.
