In the Honda/Acura world, it typically occurs during the 3rd year of the vehicles 5 year life span. This would be when slight changes are made or added such as new rims, bump in hp, change in tail lights etc etc. The most significant one ever for Acura was the 2009 RL which was still basically the same car on the inside & underneath but the exterior was drastically altered.

This is done to keep help sustain sales as the vehicle begins to age and buyers lose interest.

we all know what the MMC for the MDX and RDX is going to be. Its just going to be sticking the big ugly grill on the front. Way to ruin the only remaining good looking acura in the MDX. The current MDX grill should have been the grill for all new acuras and then everything would have been ok.

At least Acura has the ability to shut down plants. At the big 3 when they do that they are really only saving on the electric bills. I also don't know if I buy they are going to stop making TSX's for that long. They have been selling fine considering the economy. Now the RL on the other hand I totally get.

That guy talks some serious BS. He fooled management into buying into his rediculous ideas. Reminds me of Chris Bangle. It's taken BMW almost 10 years to move away from Bangle's first ideas.

That would have been nice. I like that the MDX grill doesn't look like a fat mouth.

I think the 5 point acura grille that has been used on 04-08 TL, 04-08 TSX, Etc. is perfect and shouldn't have been replaced with the MDX grille nor the power plenum.

The MDX grille does seem like a more logical progression of the original design. The Power Plenum is a bit out of left field and looks like a big fat beak, it looks good on the TSX though. The TL's grille is a bit much, and I think an MDX style grille would be a huge improvement.

If you ignore the grille the RL does look pretty nice. I think the 09s all look pretty good from the side and the back, its just the grille.

I liked the RL the way it was. The interior did improve with the MMC with the addition of wood on the center console.

i think the current RL looks nice too (except the front and the stock wheels). but it looks nowhere near a $50k car to me.

It wasn't the best looking grille out there, but compared to the MDX and the beak......

The 2009 side and rear + 2005 front is what I want to see for the RL.

After all these long years, Acura still can't decide on the signature grille design. Enough said about the Acura brand preception and about moving to Tier-1.

Acura to intro product at Chicago Auto Show

http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=812552
Confirmed: Acura sets Presser for Chicago.
Date: January 30, 2009 10:00

Credibility Rating: Not Specified

Just a quick update: last night, the Chicago Auto Show sent out one of their typical e-mail updates and as I was reading the media day schedule, I noticed that Acura had a press conference scheduled, and this was confirmed by Acura PR. As of just a few days ago, Acura and Honda had no plans for any press conferences, so this little turn of events is somewhat interesting. We will be bringing you coverage from the event on the 11th.

I have also received confirmation that Acura will be introducing "new product" at the show. I have also received information that makes it sound like it is NOT going to be the sport crossover, so who knows what we'll see in a little under 2 weeks?

^ Maybe, but that's not really a "new product".

I am sure it will be as anticlimactic as always.

Well, if some new CUV will actually make it to the showrooms this fall as an MY10 vehicle, this would be the right time to intro it.

Last year Acura debuted the RL MMC and called it a "new product"

The PR said that this was a glimpse into the next generation of flagship sedans

Here's hoping the real one looks nothing like this.

Press release Feb 11, 2009:

CHICAGO, Illinois -- Acura introduced the new YL flagship today at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. The YL features an open-air design and a single bench style seat. Powered by a 190 cc 3.5 HP 1 cylinder engine, the YL is Acura's most powerful vehicle to date. Dick Colliver, Executive Vice President of American Honda Motor Co., heralded the debut of the YL as a clear sign of Acura's status as a tier 1 luxury brand -- "The YL represents a new way forward for acura. It features the highest levels of style, comfort, power and efficiency in the luxury vehicle market today," boasted Colliver.
