Not really a spoiler.

RDX changes are well documented.
TL gets the 6MT
and MDX is due for its MMC
RL = same old. He said 'almost'

I'm hoping the fact that it comes from his mouth makes it more legit, and possibly makes the changes more substantial (I'm really thinking about the RDX and MDX). And of course the launch of the MSX is on the horizon.

Where the fuck is this "other sedan" bullshit coming from ??

Links ??

There is no other sedan.. the RWD sedan is on hold, and Acura already has 3 sedans... they need a coupe, not another sedan...

"However, in a recent interview with Automotive News, Bonawitz boasted that the situation will change in 2010 when an "all-new vehicle about the same level as the TL" arrives."

He didn't specify what kind of vehicle it will be but from "same level as the TL" I'd imagine it's going to be a sedan?

Wow, an Acura for 12 bucks? I'd buy one. Heck, I'd buy ten.

As mentioned, here are the two articles.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=1232

Your attention is particularly directed to the "Download Data Panel" link on the first page of each.

If you print each out, you will find it interesting to overlay the profile and hold it up to the light. It's amazing how close they are to each other in shape and dimension.

Then, review the data to see what I have told you about the comparative performance. This testing was not head-to-head but each was tested separately by the same testers at the same track under the same conditions.

The one error I noticed is that the BMW shows a top speed of 150MPH and the TL is listed at 147MPH (estimated). Members here, on several threads concerning top speed, regularly report over 150MPH. I would guess their average reported top speed is 152 with some more, some less.

Both cars exhibited mild to moderate understeer with a note by the testers that, "In the slalom, the TL threads through the cones with utmost agility, giving the car a bit of on-throttle oversteer character, thanks to its rear suspension geometry. Around the skidpad, the TL exhibits more understeer behavior."

In spite of this objective, factual reporting by a magazine who has had a love affair with BMWs for years, I don't expect you or the other poo-pooers of FWD to change your mind. It's just human nature for people to hang on to their beliefs and they don't want to be confused by facts.

It's like the terrible torque-steer myth that "every FWD is plagued by". I can punch my TL off the line with hands off the wheel and it goes straight as an arrow. Yes, if I punch it going around a tight corner, the VSA and LSD will try and keep the car going straight or to get better traction on the spinning wheel(s) and you can feel it working through the steering wheel. This is not torque-steer in the traditional sense. If you want to feel that, drive a Maxima especially before the CVT transmission. I know. I had Maximas before my TL.
It's good to see that FWD cars have come a long way and even when compared objectively they can hold their own in performance. But here's a couple of areas where they will never do as good as RWD cars:

- Looks: FWD cars pretty much require a long front overhang, and this greatly reduces the sexyness of the car. The great looks of the BMWs comes primarly from the short front overhang, and no FWD is able to come close to that. The one exception is the new Audi A4, which does ok in that department, but that's really designed to be an AWD platform from the start and it's an exception.

- Chewing up your front tires: again because of a typical 60/40 weight distribution and the fact that the front does all the work, you need to rotate your tires. On a RWD car you don't have to. You can even get wider rear tires, which again is pretty sexy. Also while FWD cars can run races along with RWD counterparts, I believe they'll generally go through tires faster.

Normally I wouldn't waste the time to respond to such nonsense, but its another opportunity to slag BMW 3's so...

The short overhang of the 3 series is required to fit the longitudinally mounted I6 within length range of its class and looks gay. The Aston Martin Rapide has a wicked long overhang... you're saying its not drop dead sexy?

WTF?
Besides, BMW's have the worst tire wear due to the huge negative camber on the rear's.

The Aston Martin Rapide looks graceful but not really sporty. The long front overhang most surely takes away the look.

Anyway, who knows what else Acura has in the stores. but the lack of MT on the V6 TSX is just another way of Acura disappointing more performance minded customers.

If the V6 TSX has everything that the TL has, might as well just kill the TL model. Even Acura has a really messed up product plan, it is not that stupid to completely wipe out the TL sales.

Lightbulb Acura: Research on Ambient Lighting

AutoMakers Turn the Dial up on Ambient Lighting
By Kimberly S. Johnson Published on 2/28/2009

Detroit - They're a main style feature in the new Buick LaCrosse. Acura did market testing to find the most calming ones. Scion wanted them to be a cool, customizable feature for its cupholders, and Ford's new Shelby GT500 offers more than 100 different variations.

As ceiling spotlights rain down on brand new shiny vehicles at the recent North American International Auto Show, the most important lights are inside the cars. Ambient lighting on dashboards, roofs, consoles and doors is growing in popularity as drivers demand more features, and carmakers are more than happy to oblige.

”It's a way to make the interior of a car like a home, and not just functional,”
said Derrick Kuzak, Ford Motor Co.'s group vice president of global product development.

Ford has introduced ambient lighting in its Flex, Focus and Fusion vehicles. In the Mustang, drivers can customize the colors in up to 126 different colors and shades. The Dearborn automaker has a special environment chamber where it can view lighting in different conditions, such as complete darkness, dusk, or direct sunlight.

When General Motors Corp. redesigned its Buick LaCrosse, the blue lighting that runs around the rim of the console was developed to highlight the lines and curves of the vehicle, said Jeff Nasca, interior design manager for the 2010 model.

”Our Buick blue is unique,” he said. “We wanted something that would be nice and fresh and have a 'wow factor.”'

Market research done by Honda Motor Co.'s high-end Acura brand revealed that customers find soft blue and white lighting to be the most calming colors to look at while driving, said spokeswoman Sara Pines.

”It also allows you to have enough light to see the controls,”
she said.

In Chrysler LLC's 2009 Town & Country minivan, the roof console emits a ring of soft blue light.

”We call it the halo ring,” said Chrysler spokesman Jiyan Cadiz. “We're putting them on more of our vehicles. It's kind of becoming an industry standard.”

Ambient lighting isn't new, but the feature generally reserved for luxury cars is beginning to emerge as standard in other vehicles.

Most of the ambient lights are light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, which last longer and use less energy than a conventional bulb. In addition to forming the halo ring in the Town & Country, LEDs are used in place of the standard dome lights, allowing passengers to aim the light directly on them without disturbing the driver, Cadiz said.

Ambient lighting on the floor and in the cupholders has been an added feature of Toyota Motor Corp.'s Scion brand for a few years. In the new Scion xB Release Series 6.0, drivers have about five choices of lights, a feature aimed at a younger demographic familiar with customization.

Ford first rolled out ambient lighting in its European vehicles. According to Kuzak, customers there liked the lights, ranking them among the top technology features in the car.

According to Aaron Bragman, an auto analyst with the consulting company IHS Global Insight in Troy, added features such as ambient lighting are welcomed by customers, but generally not a deciding factor when selecting a new car. The trend, which began with the Mercedes S-Class has now trickled down to less expensive cars such as the Ford Focus, he said.

”It's about differentiation,” Bragman said. “It's an inexpensive way to set off the interior of the vehicle. It's one of those surprise and delight features.”

Acura should be more worried about coming out with a coupe than doing research on ambient lighting.

acura should spend more money on common sense than which lights look pretty... They had it down with the blue already, why need to further research it?

Acura customer: What is going on with the front end of this car?!?!?

Acura salesman: Pay no attention to the front end....Look at this cool interior lighting!!
(distracts upset customer with flashing LED mood lights)

Acura research has shown that the blue shade of lighting will calm customers when they get upset over the Acura beak.
